    3. Thank you John for all your work. It makes this mail list one of the best. My opinion is: 4-5-1-3-2 I live at Pleasant Hill, MO now but grew up in Wyandotte County, KS. I've lived almost all my life in the greater Kansas City area. Even though I know quite a bit about Kansas City, your messages are so interesting that I love reading all of them even when it doesn't involve my family. 3. To all Kansas City Mailing List members: Although I've received messages of appreciate from some individuals, I'd like to get a better understanding of what's of interests to the people on the Kansas City Mailing List so I can focus my efforts in the right place. Currently, I'm posting items that I feel could affect the greatest number of people. >From the list below, please tell me what postings interest you the most. List in "most interest to least interest" order. (Example: 3, 5, 1, 4, 2): 1. Listings of deaths (with obits available on request) in the Kansas City area. 2. Listing of 1800's deaths in the Kansas City area (no obits available). 3. Listings of births in the Kansas City area. 4. "Happenings" (one sentence news items about people and events) 5. Feature articles about events in the Kansas City area with surnames. If there are not many people interested in the material I'm posting, I'll probably go back to giving assistance to individuals in their search for family members. Please respond to the List and indicate where you're located. Also, let me know if you have an interest that's not listed above. (I'll assume that the people on the List who don't respond to this survey have no interest in anything I'm posting.) Thank you for your help, John Kansas City, MO

    3. John, I enjoy reading everything you post. I was born in Kansas City, Kansas and lived there over 20 years until I married and move across the state line. I have learned alot of tidbits that I did not know. You have looked up several obits for me, which I really appreciated, since I don't get back to Kansas much anymore since my parents are gone. I live in a small town in Missouri now. I for one would be disappointed, if you quit what you are doing. I think it is a great service you provide and I feel like if anyone doesn't like the postings, they have a delete button. Keep up the good work. 3. Well, John, I would be absolutely no where with my family without you! Since I live in California, I don't have access to the newspapers and the few times that I have tried ordering newspapers through inter library loan, it has taken up to 3 months to get the paper and sometimes my obituary wasn't in that paper. I enjoy all your postings, whether they are my relatives or not, because I get an idea of what Kansas City was like in those times. I love the happenings and feature stories. If I had to pick just one thing though, it would be your postings of the deaths with obituaries on request. So if I'm forced to vote, I guess it would be: 1, 2, 3, 4/5 equal but not unimportant. Thanks so much for all you do! 2. I'm spending a tremendous amount of time (and $, I guess) following up an 1880's family scandal. Most of it takes place in Illinois but there is a strong Missouri (as well as elsewhere) component. In fact, in the course of researching this one, I uncovered some leads to another one in a different branch of the family. Is this a big deal for the family today? No one even remembers it. It made all the difference in our history, but the story was buried.

    3. Of course! I know some of our ancestors did things that they didn't want others to know about, but if we can learn from the past mistakes or understand ourselves better because of the things (good or bad) our ancestors did, why would we want to keep those things secret? My grandfather and great-grandfather had families before they married my grandmother and great-grandmother respectively. We didn't know about these earlier marriages until after the men died. Should I ignore the previous wives just because they aren't my direct lineage? Perhaps there are children from these other marriages and family members we never knew about. I want to be honest with my descendants and tell them the truth even about my poor decisions and mistakes. There are lessons to be learned. SOLDIERS REPORTED WOUNDED Private Thomas McGREAVY, listed in a recent casualty list as wounded, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McGREAVY, 1005 Osage avenue, Kansas City, Kas. He is 21 years old and enlisted in the _39th infantry, 35th division, in July 1917. Official notification of his injury has not yet been received. At the same time that a message from the war department was received stating that Captain Joseph GUILLET had been killed in action, October 10, a letter arrived from him stating that he expected to be returned to his command after several weeks in the hospital. Captain GUILLET was severely gassed while serving with the 30th infantry. He is the son of Mrs. P. L. GUILLET, 3500 East Sixty-first street. He was a student at Columbia university when war was declared and entered the first officers training corps. He was commissioned second lieutenant and has since been promoted to captain. (I have no connection with any of these families but let me know if you found this posting helpful.)
