    2. Dr. Kenneth L. Goldsberry
    3. Good morning Arthur... I went to graduate school at Iowa State Univ. with a Dudley Chittenden in 1965-66. He had retired from a Golf Course or other turf job and was seeking his MS Degree. I don't have the e-mail address of the Alumni off ice and they probably wouldn't tell you anything.... write the Horticulture Dept at hortdept@iastate.edu and see if they can give you some information. I think he died in the 1970's or 80's... and the "Dudley Chittenden Transfer Scholarship" was probably developed by his family. Write the Dept and ask about Dudley, the scholarship, requirements etc and it should give a little back ground. I think he had children and perhaps you could ask who monitored the scholarship from the family.... just use any questions to break the barriers. If you don't obtain some info... please advise me directly... CARMINE, a railroad employee at Springfield, Mo., was married last night at the Midland hotel to Miss Virgie B. LINDERMAN of Kansas City. The ceremony was performed by Dr. W. P. When Mr. CARMINE secured a license at the recorder's office at the court house yesterday, he was accompanied by Dr. GEORGE in a carriage. It was the first purpose of the young people to be married in the sleeping car attached to last night's Memphis train and leave at once for Springfield. At the last moment the plans were altered and the ceremony was performed here. 1. [KansasCity] Julia A. BROWN b. 1803 - Bowling Green, KY > IL > IA > d. 8 July 1882 - Leavenworth, KS
    2. John O'Brien
    3. "The Wyandotte Gazette" (Kansas) Friday, July 14, 1882 On the eighth instant (July 8), Mrs. Julia A. BROWN, relict of Daniel BROWN, departed this life, at the residence of her eldest son, John H. BROWN, in this city. She was born near Bowling Green, Warren county, Ky., in 1803, thus being at the time of her decease nearly seventy-nine years of age. Losing her father at the age of twelve, she clung the more closely to her mother, and with her removed three years after to Shawneetown, Ill., and subsequently to Edwardsville in the same state. In 1836, she was united in marriage with Daniel BROWN, and they continued to reside in Illinois for fifteen years when they were swept by the tide of emigration to Iowa, a blooming wilderness, where a home was selected, a family reared and the comforts of independence won and heartily enjoyed. Thirty-one years elapsed, and her husband becoming an invalid, they removed to Leavenworth, Kan., and became inmates of the family of the son above mentioned. A few months after their arrival, she was called to mourn the loss of her husband, and since that event lived more in the pleasant recollections of the past than in the stirring, active present. Mrs. BROWN was of Scotch lineage, and like her country folk, while in health, was ever ready to lighten distress, assist the needy and wisely counsel the erring, as numbers of her old neighbors and associates can testify. For nearly fifty years she was a firm, consistent member of the M. E. church and by her daily example proved that her faith was founded on the "Rock of Ages." Verily, she was a daughter of Israel, under whose roof the poor itinerant found a cheerful, though temporary home, and the weary traveler a place of rest. On the tenth instant (July 10), the remains of the estimable wife, mother and Christian were conveyed to the beautiful cemetery near Leavenworth, and there laid by tender hands beside those of her husband and near those of a lovely grand-daughter, to await the summons of the resurrection morn, when the Son shall descend to claim his own. ================================================= (I have no connection with this person but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) =================================================

    1. [KansasCity] Chen Yen Ten - d. 13 November 1895 - Kansas City, MO
    2. John O'Brien
    3. "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Friday, November 15, 1895 LOADED THE COFFIN FULL. Peculiar Customs Observed About the Corpse of Chen Yen Ten. The son of the cousin of Chen Yen Ten, the Chinese who died Wednesday morning from too great indulgence in opium, arrived in the city yesterday from Chicago and at once took charge of his dead relative's remains. The body lies at Leo J. Stewart's morgue, 1216 Walnut street, where the authorities sent it. When the Chicago relative came to the morgue yesterday afternoon with a crowd of local friends of the departed, Undertaker Stewart turned the place over to them. In a rear room, where the body was lying, dressed in the deceased's Chinese Sunday best, the almond-eyed crowd assembled and began work. Joss lights were first burned. Then a bar of soap was cut in three pieces, and two candles were stuck in each piece. The candles were lighted and incense burned. Four torches were then lit and placed at Chen Yen Ten's feet. His Chicago relative meantime was bowing and salaaming over the dead body in a solemn manner, at the same time keeping up a peculiar chant. He placed an American half dollar in Chen's mouth and numerous Chinese coins in the coffin about his body. Dozens of pieces of a peculiar kind of paper, perforated with hundreds of holes, were placed in tin buckets and burned. Twenty more pieces of gilt paper, two feet in length, were also burnt over all that was mortal of Chen. Lastly, a new brick, with Chinese words written on it, was placed in the coffin at the feet of the corpse, and several dozen paper slips, each about two inches long, were placed in the hands and over the body. The brick is for the purpose of identifying the ashes when the body is to be exhumed four years hence and shipped to China. The funeral will occur at 2 p.m. today from the morgue. Chinatown was full of preparation last evening for the final obsequies, which promises to be on a grand scale. ================================================= (I have no connection with this person but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) =================================================

Mr. DUNNING donates the use of the hall and the musicians tender their services, so that the total receipts will go into the reading room treasury. The admission fee is merely nominal, and includes everything. The Congregational entertainment for next Saturday evening at Dunning's Hall promises to be an unusually fine one. The principal singers are Miss BIDWELL, of Kansas City, and Mrs. DOWNS, of Atchison, already favorites with Wyandott music lovers. The appearance of Miss BIDWELL in our mist should of itself attract a large audience, as she is an acknowledged star in our neighboring city. Several tableaux illuminated with brilliant chemical lights, will be an attractive feature, and beautiful statuary and an amusing comedietta will make up a most unique and promising programme. ================================================= (I have no connection with any of these people but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) =================================================

    3. Hello!!! I am new to this list and seem to have a problem. Every message I've tried to view in the 2 weeks since I joined, I've had a message from Outlook Express saying "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail" then lists some numbers which I think may be some sort of identification. This has been true of every message. I receive the messages in digest form and use a PC Windows ME. Can someone respond off list and advise me what I need to do to view this list? Thanks so much! 3. Hi! I am new to this list. So far I have not been able to receive any of the messages on this list. Outlook Express tells me that it has removed access to the following unsafe attachments in my mail and then lists some numbers which I assume are some sort of identity markers. This has happend with every message that has been sent over the last 2 weeks since I joined. I receive the messages in digest form. Could someone reply to me off list to advise me what if anything I need to do? Thanks for your help.
