Dave Goldy... you had my hopes up until I read the KC obits were prior to 1910 ... and from 1910 on one has to contact the archives or dig, dig, dig. I'm looking for the death date and notice of a MO prison inmate Claude Robinson who died in one of the MO prisons after 1950... and a notice was placed in a KC newspaper asking the family to claim the body for burial. An elderly (95) very sharp minded relative thought the year was 1952 and in KC, but the MO Dept of Vitals did not find his death from 1950 through 1954. Any suggestions on locating the death and notice. By the way, no one claimed the body and I'm seeking the cemetery where he might be buried.
Sherry, John and the List The Missouri Secretary of State web site is building an on line data base of birth and deaths in Missouri. This information is based on microfilms of official records. This is the link to the search page.... http://www.sos.state.mo.us/archives/resources/birthdeath/default.asp#death By searching on BINGHAM in Jackson County, I got two hits, one of them being a Martha A BINGHAM, who died Sept 20, 1890, at 66 years, as a widow. Location of death was 12th ST and Washington, cause of death was Vomiting and Prostration. Other than Female, White, no other information was furnished. Sherry, as John recommended, I would still contact the cemetery to confirm this is your Martha. They may also have some other BINGHAM folks interred there also. BLIEL, BORNSTEIN, BOYER, McCUNE, ROBERTS, ROGERS, SMITH, SPRINGER, THOMAS, VENN "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Friday, December 24, 1915 STUDENTS IN CHRISTMAS PLAY Students of Central High School gave a Christmas play at the new building last night, In the title role of "A Bachelor's Romance," which is a Yuletide drama in spirit if not in setting and plot, Samuel BORNSTEIN voiced a sentiment like Tiny Tim's when in the bachelor's closing speech he said, "I am a happy man; God bless you all." Miss Emma McCUNE played the orphan ward of the bachelor. Miss Virginia SPRINGER the effusively querulous spinster. Other members of the cast were: Harold ROBERTS, B. Howard SMITH, Leonard THOMAS, Herbert BLIEL, Stewart VENN, Miss Irene BOYER and Miss Helen ROGERS. ================================================= (I have no connection with any of these people but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) =================================================
"The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Saturday, December 18, 1915 DIVORCE FOR MRS. FREEMAN Mrs. Hattie M. FREEMAN, formerly Miss Hattie MELLUS of Detroit, was granted a divorce from Charles L. FREEMAN, a realty dealer, by Judge H. J. SMITH of the Wyandotte County District Court yester- day. Mrs. FREEMAN was one of the founders and former president of the Detroit Cat Club and, since coming to Kansas City after her marriage in 1909, has been a leader in humane work and an exhibitor at the Sphinx Club cat shows. Mr. FREEMAN contested the divorce and said too much of the time of his wife was taken up with her pets. He said she believed that in a former existence she had been a cat. The judge granted her the decree and $200 alimony. Mrs. FREEMAN is now in Detroit. ================================================= (I have no connection with this person but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) =================================================
Dave, Thank you very much. This list is very active and helpful. John, Martha was married to Dr. Johnston Lykins, who was the first mayor by default. I was given that info on this list just last week. I am searching for information on the Livingston family. I am hoping to connect Martha with other family from KY. I think she was a sister of the ancestor I'm researching. Everything fits- I just don't have the proof yet. I'd like to find something that lists siblings. In her biography in the book by C.R. Barnes, it says she came to MO to live with a sister, Mrs. Thomas J. Hughes, in Jefferson City, MO- then moved to Lexington, MO. (I love the fact that the womans first name is almost never used!) Thanks, Sherry Crabtree
"The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Saturday, December 4, 1915 STREET CAR INTO A MAN AND A MULE. Wallace WARE, a laborer, was returning from work last night riding a mule and leading another. As he was crossing Swope Parkway at Agnes Avenue, an eastbound Swope Park car struck the mule he was riding and threw him to the pavement. Besides a deep scalp wound, he suffered a concussion of the brain. He was taken to the General Hospital. WARE is 27 years old and lives at Thirty-fourth Street and Troost Avenue. The mule was not injured. ================================================= (I have no connection with this person but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) =================================================

Becky John does not have ready access to the Johnson County, KS obituary index. The library where I usually do research has the index, so I checked on Mrs. PIQUARD's death date, from which I was able to find an obituary. Mrs. Josephine May MOSS PICQUARD, 93, of 8101 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, died Sunday {May 9th} at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She was born in Grafton, W. Va., and had lived in this area most of her life. Mrs. PIQUARD was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Kansas City and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Community Christian Church. She leaves four brothers, Wallace MOSS, Las Vegas, Nev., Dan MOSS and Delbert MOSS of Yucca Valley, Calif., and Ray MOSS, Torrance Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Helen PILANT, Yucca Valley. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Newcomer Overland Park Chapel; burial in the Craig, Neb. Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the chapel.
