ALBRIGHT, ANDERSON, ANGIER, BENNETT, BERNHARD, BISHOP, BOWIE, CALIHAN, DAVIS, FOWLER, FRIEDBERG, GERHARDT, HOAG, HOFFMAN, JOHNSON, KELLEY, KUHIS, LANGSTON, LENINGSTONS, LEWIS, LOOMIS, MALOTT, OVERTON, PAYNE, PIKE, SCOUT, SHORTER, TROUP, YOUNG "The Kansas City Journal" (Missouri) Sunday, August 28, 1881 WYANDOTT AND VICINITY. Jessie CALIHAN returned yesterday from Chicago. Mrs. I. J. LEWIS and daughter are on the sick list. The infant child of Alex BOWIE was buried yesterday. Joe SHORTER returned from Colorado this afternoon. C. W. FOWLER and wife left for Colorado yesterday. Col. D. S. YOUNG came down from Topeka yesterday. Rev. Mr. BENNETT has returned from his summer trip. Rev. Father KUHIS returned yesterday from Pittsburg, Pa. A woman and her crazy boy were around begging yesterday. The goods of W. H. DAVIS were sold yesterday at sheriff's sale. Call and examine the new goods arriving daily at FRIEDBERG Bros'. A car load of corsets just received at HOAG & TROUP's and more to follow. Sultana, the best nickel cigar, at C. BERNHARD's old reliable news-stand. Miss Gertie LOOMIS was "surprised" last evening by a party of friends. Mr. & Mrs. ANGIER, of Cleveland, O., are visiting the family of I. J. LEWIS. A party of young people left last evening on a fishing excursion to St. Joe. James KELLEY and Katie LANGSTON were married yesterday by Judge ANDERSON. The Rev. PAYNE, of the Methodist church, south, preaches his farewell sermon to-day. Two boys were up before the police judge yesterday for running horses on Fifth street. Wm. ALBRIGHT, county treasurer, and Chas. GERHARDT went down to Reed's Springs yesterday. All of the Wyandotte township bridges that were washed out by the late rain have been rebuilt. Christ BERNHARD has just received a fine and complete stock of new stationary and notions. G. W. HOFFMAN and wife, of Logansport, Ind., who have been visiting the family of Councilman SCOUT, returned home last evening. Notwithstanding the hot weather the amount of business done by LENINGSTONS, the shoe men of Kansas City, Kan., is positively amazing. Cutting down prices does the work. Some sneak thief has been making nightly raids on Armstrong street, breaking open houses and barns. The county commissioners met yesterday, and awarded the contract for coal to W. P. OVERTON and ordered the bridge to be repaired at once on the Kansas City, Kas., side under direction of Capt. BISHOP. And it is well that they did. Already there are nine holes in the bridge and there is a report that Commissioner JOHNSON dropped through a hold into the water below and floated ashore on a watermelon. Commissioner MALOTT fell through another hole yesterday, and promised that if he got ashore he would vote for the appropriation. Perly PIKE rescued him. ====================================================== (I have no connection with any of these families but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) "The Kansas City Journal" (Missouri) Saturday, September 22, 1917 COMES FROM ALASKA TO WED. There was a quiet wedding at St. Paul's Episcopal church yesterday. The bride was Miss Marie THOMESEN, 23 years old, a pretty school teacher from Klukwan, Alaska, who had come half way around the world to marry her soldier sweetheart, First Lieutenant Simon FOSTIAK, United States army, who met and wooed her amid the eternal snows of Alaska, when he was stationed at Fort William H. Seward as a quartermaster sergeant in the regular army. Lieutenant FOSTIAK is under orders to proceed to Fort Snelling and aid in training the men of the infantry branch of the national army. He recently was commissioned after attending the army training camp. The bride was born in Norway. Because of her linguistic ability, she has been teaching at a government school forty miles from Fort William H. Seward. Simon FOSTIAK is a native of Kiev, Russia. He enlisted in the coast artillery branch of the regular army in 1910. He was promoted rapidly and when detailed to Alaska bore the rank of quartermaster sergeant. Then it was he met the pretty Norwegian girl and they became betrothed. His ambitions were higher than a non-commissioned rank, and when the world war began he received permission to train for a commission. This he earned and has been assigned to the infantry. Rev. J. D. RITCHEY performed the marriage service. The bride and groom will be at the Hotel Baltimore for several days. ====================================================== (I have no connection with these families but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) The following site was set up specifically to address conflicts between AOL users and Rootsweb and frequently gets off into other types of common computer problems also. Well worth a look! [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected])
Possible explanation is that AOL is getting out of the Broadband business and reworking contracts with other phone companies-SBC carries mine now and did before- but had to get SBC modem and hook it up-maybe there is a problem with the conversion...AOL is a system all it's own...and does have some stuff that can't come thru-and you never seem to know what will or what won't.
Actually, AOL is a parasite program that integrates into the programs you already have on your system, i.e. Internet Explorer and the likes. I had nothing but problems with AOL years ago, this goes for Yahoo too. The best solution for this problem is to get a regular dial up or broadband such as roadrunner and use your own program to access email and the Internet. Once you try to rid yourself of Yahoo or AOL, it is almost required to format your computer. In other words, you cannot rid your self of the files and junk they download without your knowledge. A lot of people think that the virus protection AOL and Yahoo provides is enough security. Think again. Hello Everyone, Having such a nice, well behaved list means you seldom need to hear from me. But, a problem has arisen in the past couple of weeks having to do with AOL When someone's mailbox is full, they've changed email address and not changed the subscription address, or they no longer have that ISP and their mail is bounced, I get a notification. In the past couple of weeks I've had a running list of subscribers to AOL being bounced. This isn't happening every time a message is sent to the list, but it is happening often enough that an answer to a question to one of them may be missed. My point in all this? If you should see a post from someone asking why they haven't received an answer or that they didn't see such and such, please keep this new wrinkle in mind. This isn't happening with just this list, but with several that I am familiar with both as a monitor and a subscriber. I've suggested to each one that they contact AOL and ask why this is happening and to fix the problem. Hopefully, this will be done in the near future. Thanks for reading, Maureen Patt Listmom [email protected]
Morning to all from Cleveland Ohio. I am hoping that maybe someone out there knows someone by the surname name of Dial that lived in Blue Springs Jackson Cnty MO. That they had an Amon DIal in their family who had a sister Agnes (they were twins born in 1857. I am trying to find some family still out there and what happened to Agnes she just disappeared with no record. Amon had children, Rachael Susanna, Frank (buddie) William, Roy, Omie, and Cloie. if you do know any Dials please pass this on and have them get in touch with me. I so enjoy hearing these stories here it gives an idea why my Father so loved it and wanted to move back but he never got that chance, he dies when was 10. Thank you again for your time. And keep the stories coming!
To: Dreemcookie: At Elmwood Cemetery, Kansas City, there is an Amon DIAL but the birth year does not match your date. But here is the info: Block A, Lot 23 Amon E. DIAL, born 1846, died Dec 28, 1934. Lydia R. DIAL, born 1864, died Jan 20, 1920 If this is the correct Amon, the obituary may mention Agnes, her married name, and her whereabouts. I checked the Jackson County marriage database for an Agnes DIAL marriage, but did not find one.
