    3. I received an interesting note from the great-great niece of C.A. Ransom that I wanted to share. ==================================================== "The Kansas City Journal" (Missouri) Monday, April 24, 1899 OTHER DEATHS AND FUNERALS. Mrs. Belle M. RANSOM, aged 41 years, died of pneumonia yesterday at her home, 1418½ Woodland avenue. Her husband, C. A. RANSOM, who is a conductor on the Rock Island railroad, is at the point of death with pneumonia, and it was while nursing him that his wife was taken with pneumonia. The funeral will be held from Wagner's undertaking rooms at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning and the body will be placed in a receiving vault at Elmwood cemetery. =================================================== Arabella (Belle) McKinley Ransom was my great-grandfather's, (George H. Ransom) brother's wife. Despite what the obit says about C.A. being near death with pneumonia, he lived until 1921. George H. and Charles A. were born in Jefferson County, New York, the sons of Giles P. and Cynthia Harlow Ransom. From New York, the family moved to Hardin County, Iowa, and then to Missouri Valley, Harrison County, Iowa.Charles and Arabella were married in Missouri Valley, Iowa, 17 May 1875. They moved to Bancroft, Nebraska, along with George H. Ransom and his wife, Mattie Roach Ransom, and their father Giles P. Ransom in 1880.

    3. "The Kansas City Star" (Missouri) Thursday, July 8, 1920 What was considered the most unusual accidental death of this year was that of the 5-year-old son of James F. SIMS, 3406 Roberts street. The boy was riding a tricycle on the sidewalk at Askew and Independence avenues June 9, when two motor cars collided in the street. He was struck by scalding water from the punctured radiator of one of the cars. He died the next day from the burns. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) 3. COLEY, GATES, McCURDY, MOORE, TAGGART "The Kansas City Journal" (Missouri) Wednesday, March 9, 1904 INDEPENDENCE NEWS NOTES. Miss Laura MOORE will be the guest this week of friends in Lexington, Mo. Miss Rosalee MOORE has returned home from a stay of several weeks with relatives at Dover, Mo. The body of Benjamin GATES, who died of pneumonia at a camp near Raytown, still remains unclaimed at Ott's undertaking establishment. The application of Samuel COLEY to run a saloon near the Missouri Pacific depot will be given a hearing by the county court Friday. All the residents of the block have signed for the saloon, but it will be fought by the Law and Order League. The county court yesterday continued the application of Dan TAGGART for a saloon license for Lee's Summit until the next term of court. The case was to have been tried Friday, but a heavy remonstrance is to be launched against TAGGART's petition by some of the residents of Lee's Summit. Mayor McCURDY, of Independence, is strongly in favor of mortgaging the electric light plant as a means of getting the city out of financial difficulty. The plan is to secure a loan, have a friendly suit and the court order a levy to pay off the indebtedness. In this way the general revenue fund of the city can be reimbursed. ====================================================== (I have no connection with any of these families but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) 3. AXTELL, BECKER, CARENS, EGELHOFF, FRAEGER, MITCHELL, NELSON, TIFFANY "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Monday, January 4, 1909 MANY JOBS FOR POLICEMEN. Charles R. EGELHOFF, 618 Oak street, said he was knocked down early yesterday morning by two men at Seventh street and Grand avenue. The men, he said, were frightened away by persons on the sidewalk. He was treated for a bruised nose by Dr. Fred R. BERRY at the emergency hospital. Charles NELSON, 107 Park avenue, reported that he was robbed of $15 by two men on Park avenue, near Lexington avenue, late Saturday night. When Hugh CARENS returned to his home at the Richelieu hotel, Twelfth street and Broadway, about midnight Saturday, he found that he had lost $24. He places the blame upon an unknown young man who leaned against him in a Twelfth street car two hours before. Among the things missed at the home of W. C. FRAEGER, 1417 Euclid avenue, New Year's day are: One pearl pin, one pin set with pearls and small chip diamonds, one bracelet engraved "Gertrude Mitchell," one old-fashioned gold bracelet, black enameled, engraved on inside; one watch of two or three shades of gold, engraved "Papa and Mamma to Gertrude;" one gold watch engraved "M. M." on the lid; one watch chain with chip diamond in the slide, and one cameo pin. Mrs. E. M. BECKER told the police yesterday that someone had taken her brown fur coat, valued at $100, from her room at 613 East Twelfth street. The home of Mrs. B. J. TIFFANY, 1909 Montgall avenue, was entered Saturday night and a woman's gold watch and long chain taken. The watch was engraved "Zetta, 1900." J. M. AXTELL of Helena, Mo., slept soundly Friday night in his room at the Cottage hotel, 803 Wyandotte street. When he awoke yesterday morning he missed $50, a gold watch and his trousers and vest. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.)
