    2. John... ...forgot to mention it, but there is some evidence that Josephine's middle name may have been Hazel...not sure, but thought I'd send this piece of information. Thank you, again. Paul In a message dated 9/4/2008 6:09:12 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, JohnOBrien@kc.rr.com writes: Paul, I'm pretty sure Josephine's maiden name was BRAM. I found Henry's World War I registration, and Josephine signed her name as "Josephine Bram Potter." Josephine was born in about 1875 in Missouri (I found them in the 1920 and 1930 census) and her parents were born in Illinois (per 1930 census). I've searched for her in the 1880 census but have not found her. As you know, there is no 1890 census, and by 1900 she was married to Henry. (They were married about 1899.) So I'm still searching for proof that her name was BRAM. Maybe that name will "ring a bell" and you'll recall a family story with that name. I'll send you a copy of Henry's WWI registration. If you need a copy of the 1930 census, let me know. 3. Thanks, Paul. Every bit helps! 1920 census has Josephine born in MO; father Scotland; mother Illinois 1930 census has Josephine born in MO; father Illinois; mother Illinois She was born in 1875. So far I can't find a Josephine BRAM in the 1880 census. She married Henry POTTER in 1899, so the 1900 census wont help. Henry's 1955 obit said he moved from Marshall, MO to KC "60 years ago" which would be 1895. I assume he met Josephine in Kansas City. Maybe someone on the KC List would like to help with the challenge of finding her and her family. Or, send us some suggestions. (We are not 100% sure that her birth name was BRAM.) 2. Yep, dear readers, Van and I and sometimes Vivian have discussed the KC Public School system a couple of times. Old Tom only deserved half of the vilification he received-seems to me every big town in the US has some one with a concrete franchises who get caught with his hand in the cookie jar. But there is someone from Ann Arbor who has some interest in Pendergast from a family stand point, so I guess this diatribe qualifies as genealogy. And if not, there are numerous ways to delete this message. Marilyn **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Find your travel deal here. 1. Re: [KANSASCITY] KC schools
    2. Being a few years younger than Marilyn, I can attest to the 1-12 (or possibly K-12) system by the mid-40s. I don't know whether half-day kindergarten was mandatory, but everyone I knew went. The only kids that I'm aware of who didn't weren't in a regular classroom were what we called the 'Fresh Air kids" who were entirely separated from the rest of us, even at recess. They apparently had something contagious, maybe TB? Marilyn, didn't we discuss this once? No special teachers for any classes while I was there. We were accredited then and also later when I returned for high school. In the middle of 4th grade I transferred to a county school, Rock Creek, which later was incorporated into the KC system and is now Van Horn attendance district. This year it became part of the Independence district. I spent the last half of 4th grade catching up academically which tells me either the KC district wasn't that great or Rock Creek was superb. At least part of the time my daughters were in school the district had lost accreditation but by then they did have self-contained gifted classes. Later yet my grandson attended KC schools for K-5. When he started they still had the magnet system but shortly after that was officially ousted. I couldn't see any change at his school, however. He was in gifted classes and they did a fantastic job. When we moved to Columbia he spent most of 6th grade bored to tears so I'd say the KC school system has been up, down, and all over the place through the last 80 years. 3. Paul, I'm pretty sure Josephine's maiden name was BRAM.
