    3. In a Funeral Notice from the Kansas City Star dated November 20, 1914 for my Greatgrandmother Catharine Morrisey Quinlan there is a request for the members of Holy Cross Council No.22 Ladies Auxiliary Knights of Father Mathew and sister councils to attend the funeral. Does anyone know anything about this organization in Kansas City? How active it was? I know about the movement: it was a temperance society that originated in Ireland and that Father Mathew toured and preached in the US in the 1850s. Under a blossoming locust tree in the yard of the old home at 1419 Independence Avenue, now the residence of Jacob R. SHAPIRO, Ben KATZEFF and Miss Sarah GOLDSTEIN were married at 6:30 o'clock last night by Rabbi Samuel KANTOR. There were three hundred and fifty invited guests and almost as many uninvited, and the wedding feast was still in progress at 10 o'clock on the porch, where guests ate while those earlier at the festal board danced inside to the music of the SHAPIRO orchestra. The bride is the niece of the SHAPIROs. Thirteen years ago when her father, Morris GOLDSTEIN, was dying, her uncle promised him that his children should be married properly. In the carrying out of that promise, Mr. SHAPIRO last night almost set a new record in North Side wedding feasts. Judge Ralph LATSHAW of the criminal court, a guest of honor, spoke following the ceremony. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ======================================================

    1. Re: [KANSASCITY] Anatomical Society
    2. karen, for several years i worked at a medical school, and the physical therapy program included anatomy classes. that class used cadavers, which were ordered from anatomical associations or cadavers associations. that very well could be the anatomical society you are searching for. it's possible, your relative's body was donated to science. you may be able to find out IF the body was donated, but other than that, I remember being told that those records were extremely confidential. www.anatsoc.org.uk/ here's the website of the society's office in the uk. you might learn more about their society through this website. i googled the kansas city society, but the page came up missing. good luck. cindyhal@illinois.edu ---- Original message ---- >Date: Wed, 10 Sep 2008 17:34:57 -0600 >From: Karen H <wk.haffermehl@sasktel.net> >Subject: Re: [KANSASCITY] Anatomical Society >To: kansascity@rootsweb.com > >Thanks >Karen >----- Original Message ----- >From: "JoLynne Martinez" <jmartinez5@kc.rr.com> >To: <kansascity@rootsweb.com> >Sent: Wednesday, September 10, 2008 4:25 PM >Subject: Re: [KANSASCITY] Anatomical Society > > >>I have no idea what the Anatomical Society was, but my first guess was that >> perhaps he generously donated his body to be dissected by medical >> students? >> >> -- JoLynne >> >> >> On 9/10/08 4:29 PM, "Karen H" <wk.haffermehl@sasktel.net> wrote: >> >>> Hi everyone! >>> I am new to your list and I am so excited!
