    3. "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Wednesday, May 8, 1912 HAD MAD DOG AT LECTURE. According to a statement of Dr. J. C. FLYNN, a veterinarian, before the Jackson County Medical Society last night, a slight epidemic of rabies is prevailing among the dogs of the city. Doctor FLYNN brought before the gathering a dog in the last stages of dumb rabies. He discussed the symptoms and also the Pasteur treatment. "The prevailing notion," said Doctor FLYNN, "is that most cases of rabies occur during dog days in August. This is not so. At that time heat apoplexy, is often mistaken for madness. The only cause for a dog or person to become infected with rabies is being bitten by a dog already mad." ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ====================================================== neirbo8
