I am trying to help figure out Ghoslin lines. The following is what I know. From oral tradition the family changed it's spelling and originated from France to Canada. They migrated from the Lake Champlin area, Isle LaMotte (previously Viniard) and surrounding area. Came to eastern Wisconsin, migrated west. Previous spellings have been Joslyn/Goslin to Ghoslin/Gosselin In the study resulting in the following: NOTEBOOK: FRENCH-CANADIAN SETTLEMENT IN THE CHAMPLAIN ISLANDS, GRAND ISLE COUNTY, VERMONT BEFORE THE YEAR 1880 data compiled by Virginia Easley DeMarce with the assistance of Allen L. Stratton, North Hero, Vermont, Veronique Gassette, South Burlington, Vermont 1985 Update April 1994 There are two entry's that were miscellaneous, but related to the families I seek. JOSLYN, GOSLYN (GOSSELIN) FAMILY 4. William D. Gosseline. 1847 school list, Isle la Motte, Vt. William D. Ghosline m. Sally Holcomb, both of Isle la Motte, 6 March 1842. Freeman 1842, Isle la Motte. 6. S. Watson Gosseline. Freeman 1844, Isle la Motte. m. 9 September 1842, Isle la Motte, Vt., Amanda Peters. William and Simon are supposed brothers. Any help would be greatly appreciated to sort or make connections for this confusing history. Thanks --karen

"Albemarle County Virginia" Deed Book - 2 - Page 100 - May 7, 1759 JOSLIN to EVANS This Indenture made this seventh day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty nine, between John JOSLIN of the county of Albemarle and the parish of St. Anne’s of the one part & James EVANS of the same county and parish of the other part Witnessth that the said John JOSLIN for & in consideration of a marriage contract hath Granted Bargained __ __ unto the said James EVANS & his heirs one Certain Tract or Parcel of land Containing one hundred and ninety five acres Lying and being in The County of Albemarle on the branches of Elk Island Creek, [This is my interpertation] John Joslin gave to James Evans 195 acres of land. "for & in consideration of a marriage contract" Consideration = "something given in return for" James Evans gave the marriage contract, wouldn't that mean that it was James Evans getting married, not John Joslin. also: [and now in the possession of the said James EVANS with all __ ways Easements & Advantages whatsoever to the said Land] James Evans was already in possession of the 195 acres, already living on it, COULDN'T this mean that James Evans had married John Joslin's daughter and that John Joslin was giving the 195 acres to his daughter, Elizabeth & James Evans. I have worked on this James Evans and Elizabeth ( ) Evans for years and what documentation I have found indicates that the marriage/deed contract was for Elizabeth Joslin and James Evans. I will be glad to correspond and share the records with anybody that is working on these lines. Also would like your comments on the above. Thank you, Wakley Ann (Evans) Doyal
