He appears to have been born in England, went to the U.S. and married Mary (May) Green, and returned to England. They had 8 children--my father Thomas Merchant Crewe was the second youngest, born in Queen Charlotte's Hospital, Marylebone Road, December 2, 1903. John Joseph was a Stoker for the London Central Railway and injured his spine while competing in a tug of war, in September 1905. He died of heart failure on October 22, 1905. The mother, Mary Joslyn was pregnant with her 8th child, which was born after John Joseph's death. The family was put in a work home, and during time of great financial crises three children were placed with Dr. Barnardo home--my father Thomas, a brother John, and sister Minnie, on July 2, 1906. Another sibling, Eliza was admitted to St. Barnabas' Orphanage, Pimlico. Mary Joslin returned to the U.S. sometime about October/November 1906 to stay with her br! other W. P. Pray, Dobbins, New Jersey. She appears to have taken the infant with her, along with (perhaps) one other child. She wrote Barnardos several times enquiring about children, and requested photographs. She wanted all 3 children sent to Canada together. This was not done. I have been unable to trace Mary Joslin. Barnardos sent me photos of Thomas, Minnie and John recently. Because I am not a direct descendant of John or Minnie, they will not send me more information about them. If any of this sounds familiar, please contact me at the above e-mail address.
Thanks, I don't have a copy, but would love to have one. If I can't buy the book, I would really appreciate any info you can send. Can you tell me who the parents of Joseph N. was? Thank you. Joyce No, I don't know who the parents of Joseph N Joslin Sr are. I posted that request in another inquiry about a week ago, and about a year ago and about 2 years ago. I am trying to get as much information on the descendants as possible.

Not sure just when she returned to U.S. to stay with her brother W. P. Pray, and believe she took one child (Florence?) with her. Would this be any part of your family? I am the only child of Thomas Merchant Crewe Joslin/Joslyn who was put in Dr. Barnardo orphanage in London by his mother Mary following the death of John Joseph. Two other siblings, John and Minnie Joslin were also placed in same orphanage and all 3 siblings were sent to Canada. I have lost track of any of Dad's relatives. Perhaps we are not part of the same family, but if any of this sounds familiar, please contact me. Good luck in your search.

Barbara, Go to google.com and type in "Francis Hopkins""Mary Joslin" and see what you find. I have not done much research lately but plan to this coming year. If you have not used google.com, I think you will be happy. Of course not all on the internet is correct but it gives a start. Let me know what you find. Francis and Mary are my grandparents, about 7 or 8 generations back. Good luck and have fun.
