Surnames: Felton, Jahn, Joslin, Tibbitt Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/HQl.2ACEB/237.2 Message Board Post: Hi Lisa, We may be distant cousins. I list a Lucy Turner Joslin in a family lineage I was given some years ago. The Lucy I have listed shows birthdate 4-6-1879, and Died 3-18-1920. While I don't think that this was James' mother, it is possible that she is a niece of someone in your line. My branch of the Joslin line came from England in 1625 in the form of Thomas Joslin, his wife Rebecca, and their five children on board the ship "Increase" They settled in Massachusetts and their descendants moved southward over the years(my line settled in the West Jersey province in 1704). The Joslins were mostly farmers and fisherman, and they were generally Quakers (philosophical kin to Amish, which may account for the Pennsylvania-Dutch connection...) and Methodists. I know a number of cousins moved westward during the late 19th and 20th centuries. I will try later today to get in touch with my Grandmother and see what I can find out about the Joslin-Turner link and post a follow up. Regards, Timothy Jahn

    3. Hi Joyce, Thanks for the info. That clarifies the info I have collected, and removes some of the confusion from other web sites. I am waiting for copies from the book. You have the following: "William born 1701 (son of Thomas and Mary Vaugh) in Little Compton RI died 1771 in Little Compton. Married Mary unknown. They had the following children: 1. Thomas born 1735 Little Compton died 1794 2. Issac Josselyn born 1759 in Little Compton RI Married Mary Unknown and Sarah Hewitt in 1813 3. John born 1760/1761 4 Abraham son of Thomas married Naomi Arnold 30 March 1758 in Old Smithville, RI They had a daughter Thankful born 11 Aug 1758 in Old Smithville, married Jebediah Wilson on 27 August 1774 in North Providence, RI>" That sure is a spread between 1st and 2nd children! 34 years. Do you mean that the 4th child Abraham is the son of Thomas born 1735 Little Compton? Or is he on the wrong list? The info I have different is the following about that 4th child, Abraham. In the Cumberland, RI Records of births and deaths, Vol 1, Thomas Joslen and Mary his wife registered the following children on Dec 2, 1752. Abraham Joslen their first Son born February 8th A.D. 1736 William Joslen born January 21, in the year 1738 Ruth Joslen their first Daughter born Jan 23rd AD 1740 Abiger Joslen their Second Daughter born August 13th AD 1743 **Thomas Joslen their third Son born January 27th AD 1746 Mary Joslen their third Daughter born May 5th AD 1748 Phebe Joslen their fourth Daughter born August 30th AD 1750 Abigail Joslen their fifth Daughter born September 7th AD 1751 After looking at the films from Cumberland Town Records, I have that Abraham Joslen was made a freeman in Cumberland in 1759 and married Naomi Arnold in Smithfield. He was not a descendant of William, but a descendant of his brother Thomas. Thanks, Peg

    3. Hi: I will resend it. Thomas and Mary Vaugh Josselyn didn't have a daughter Freelove. Thomas had a son Thomas and Freelove was hisdaughter I haven't found a will yet for Thomas. To my knowledge there is no Hannah McComber in the line. I would not include it in my data base according to what I have found so far. Do you also need the info on Abraham and Beatrice Hampson or just of Thomas and Mary. .----- Original Message ----- From: "pegoberbeck" <poberbeck@mindspring.com> To: <JOSLIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 30, 2002 11:44 AM Subject: Re: [JOSLIN] Mary Joslin/widow/96/died 1770 > Hi Joyce, > > I don't think so, I looked in my email list, and I have no other > messages from you about Thomas and Mary Vaughn. 3. Hi Joyce, I don't think so, I looked in my email list, and I have no other messages from you about Thomas and Mary Vaughn. If you have it, I am really interested in more then just dates. Did Thomas Joslin have a will? I am really interested in more info on Thomas Joslin, the 1ST son of Thomas and Mary Vaughn Joslin. I have seen a ton of various info on him. 1. Most web pages seem to agree that Thomas was born in about 1684 in Newport, Newport, RI. 2. However, one web site has Thomas married to Hannah McComber-- which I believe is wrong -- while others have him married to Mary. 3. Some web sites identify the only only child of Thomas and Mary as Freelove b July 4, 1719 she married William Gardiner May 19, 1737. 4. Other web sites identify his children as: Thomas born about 1710. He married Mary and may have gone to Cumberland, RI Mary born about 1716. She married John Lilibridge March 29, 1730 in South Kingston, RI Freelove born July 4, 1718 - married William Gardiner. 5. A will for Thomas Joslin(b 1684) of South Kingston, March 1723/24 only mentions his wife Mary, brother Henry and daughter Freelove. If he had 2 other children, why were they not mentioned? Were his other children provided for and therefore not mentioned? I am just really looking for the actual sources and facts to support the info in #4 above. If #4 above does have sources to support it, then I also am looking for an explanation in regards to the children not mentioned in the will from #5 above. Thanks for any info!! Peg Wisconsin

    2. I wish I did have more information on Judieth/Judith's family. If she wasn't buried next to her brother, Timothy - and if he wasn't listed right next to John on an early census, I'd have no clue at all. I do know that her husband, John Carnrike (also spelled Cornrike, Kornright, Gernreich) was b. in Ulster Co., NY. They married (probably) about 1793 given the ages of their 14 children (Mary, Peggy, William, Peter, E.F., Phoebe, Josiah, Elizabeth, John, Lewis, Sylvia, George, Fanny, and Zilpha). The surnames of others that settled in the area and married into this family include Hicks, Manchester (origination unknown), Stage (also from Ulster Co.), Hammond, Herrington, and Getman. Again, even suggestions of where to look next would be welcome. And thanks for your time and interest. Joyce Raleigh, NC
