I'd like to know about your William Jordan. I am researching my husband's Jordan line, and I live in Graham Co., NC, which was part of Cherokee Co., NC until April 1872. Alexander Jordan, born c1773 in NC; m. Nancy (MNU (maiden name unknown))m born c1775 in GA (from 1850 census of Cherokee Co., NC). So far I have found two children born to Alexander and Nancy: 1. Alexander "Mack" Jordan, born c1818 in Elbert Co., GA (according to the 1860 census for Cherokee Co., NC). Mack married Susannah Sneed, b. bet. 1827-1830 in Iredell Co., NC. (On the message boards, Fountain Jordan is listed as the father of Alexander "Mack" Jordan, but the census information, as well as information given me by a descendant of one of Mack's Cherokee Indian wives confirms his lineage. See below.) 2. William Jordan, born c1830 in NC. By 1860 William had left Cherokee Co. or was deceased. I have been unsucessful in finding him elsewhere. In the 1850 census for Cherokee Co., NC, William was hired out as a farmhand and was living in the home of George W and Elizabeth Hayes, parents of Langdon Hayes who married Mira Sneed, sister of Susannah Sneed. (See details below.) More about Alexander "Mack" and Susannah Sneed Jordan: >From the 1860 census, I have determined that Susanna was the daughter of Robert Sneed and Lucy MNU. Robert was born c1790 in VA. His wife, Lucy, was born c1800 in Wake Co., NC. In 1860 the Alexander "Mack" Jordan family lived 5 houses away from Robert Sneed. Robert and Lucy had a daughter named Mira, born c1828, also in Iredell Co., NC, just as Susannah was. At the time of the 1860 census, Mira had 4 children, and all were living with her parents. (On the message boards, I have seen Mira's children listed as being the children of Robert and Lucy, but the actual census image reveals that they were, in fact, grandchildren.) While searching old marriage records in Cherokee Co., NC, I found an application for marriage for Mira and Langdon Hayes, made on 20 Jan 1866. Alexander "Mack" Jordan also had three Cherokee Indian wives (not recognized by white law) and fathered many children by them: 1. Catherine "Kate" Ward, born c1826 in Towns Co., GA. Kate was the daughter of Charles Ward and Josie Evans. 2. Nancy Willis, born c1819 in Elbert Co., GA. 3. Eliza MNU, born c1824 in Towns Co., GA. All three had been either abandonded or orphaned when little girls and were raised by Old Alexander and Nancy. On Kate Ward/Jordan's application for tribal membership, she stated that she was married to a mand by the name of Jordan. I have much information about the children born to each one and will be happy to share. Karen Trull Jordan __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
