Joshua Jordan family historians and genealogists, I am VERY interested in learning more and verifying this Jordan family. With much confusion, debatable information, and no apparent sources to site anymore, I have been trying to verify this Jordan line. I have been able to prove and verify my Jordan line up to Joshua Jordan Birth: 7 NOV 1755 in Washington County (former Green County), Pennsylvania. Death: ABT 1830 in Union Twp, Brown County, Ohio Joshua Jordan married ... Marriage (1) Deborah UNKNOWN born ABT 1759 in Pennsylvania Children: John JORDAN b: ABT 1781 in Possibly Washinton County,Pennsylvania Sarah JORDAN b: 1785 in Possibly Washinton County,Pennsylvania Eleanor JORDAN Samuel JORDAN b: ABT 1783 in Possibly Washinton County,Pennsylvania Joshua JORDAN b: 1790 in Possibly Washinton County,Pennsylvania Deborah JORDAN b: ABT 1796 in Possibly Washinton County,Pennsylvania Marriage (2) Dorcus MASTERSON b: 30 OCT 1776 in Westmoreland County,Pennsylvania Married: 15 AUG 1812 in Adams County, Ohio Children: Leuranah Willett JORDAN b: 1814 in Ohio Aaron M. JORDAN b: 1816 Washington M. JORDAN b: 1820 I have been unable to verify Joshua Jordan's parents. (Joshua born abt 1755) There are more than one version to his parents. One being Josiah Jordan of North Carolina Another being Joshia Jordan of VA Another being Jacob Jordan of North Carolina Joshua Jordan (1755) is my direct ancestor, and would like to verify his parnets, as there are too many versions out there. If anyone can assit, or has some source of information, it would be greatly appriciated. Here is what 'notes' I have on the family at this time. GEN: FACT 01- GEN: Joshua Jordan married Dorcus Masterson Loudon. GEN: FACT 02- GEN: Family moved to River Hill, on the Ohio River, a short distance below Ripley. GEN: FACT 03- GEN: James Loudon, his step son (the son of Dorcus) Lived in River Hill (above) for fourtee n years. GEN: FACT 03- GEN: Joshua was of the earlier pioneer settlers of the county. GEN: Sources: "THE BIOGRAPHICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA OF OHIO OF THE NENETEENTH CENTURY" GEN: Database: Ohio Biographical Sketches, 1876 GEN: FACT 04- GEN: TWO Joshua Jordans listed on the 1790 Washington County, PA Census. GEN: One Joshua living in Rich Hill (present day Greene County.) GEN: J. Jordan living in Moon (First) -Present day Allegheny County. GEN: Note: Also a JN Jordan, William Jordan, Jacob Jordan. GEN: Source: 1790 Washington County, PA Census NAME: ANOTHER UNDOCUMENTED source has this person listed as "Josiah Jordan" born November 07 , 1752 in North Carolina. Died about NAME: April, 1830 in Georgetown, Brown, OH. NAME: With the informatin that goes the North Carolina route has this Joshua (Josiah) as hi s father being Jacob Jordan born Dec. 01, NAME: 1732 in Chowan County, NC, and mother as Patience Small. NAME: NONE of this has been documented or actually been accepted as a connection. BIRTH: Currently we have not proved who this father is. What we do know is that he was bor n about 1750-1755, and his name was Joshia BIRTH: or Joshua Jordan. BIRTH: He was born prob in Washington Co., PA GEN: This person is either one of a few people. GEN: REPRT #1 FROM LDS GEN: The father of Joshua Jordan b. 1755 in Union, Brown, OH is: GEN: Joshua (Josiah) Jordan b. ABT 1708 in Isle of Wight Co., VA GEN: died ABT 1786 GEN: Married #1. (?) ABT 1725 GEN: Married #2. Mourning Ricks of Isle of Wight b. ABT 1708 d. 1792 GEN: REPORT #2 FROM Another geneologist GEN: The father of Josiah Jordan b. 1752 in NC is: GEN: Jacob Jordan b. Dec. 1, 1732 in Chowan Co., NC GEN: died Aug. 9, 1795 GEN: Married #1. Patience Small of Perq Co., NC on May 3, 1751 GEN: Married #2. Elizabeth NAME: The father of Joshua Jordan born 1755 according to the LDS Mormon file is Joshua (Josia h) Jordan born ABT 1708 in Isle of Wight NAME: Co., VA.....but NONE of this has been verified at all! NAME: The LDS version also has the husband of this Joshua as Mourning Ricks. This is VERY un likey though. I have documents of NAME: Quaker Meeting notes saying that Joshua and Mourning still lived in Isle of Wight, Va. ..AFTER 1755. Joshua Jordan was born in NAME: PA...although that is not verified either. NAME: Still working on the two other Joshua Jordans. when that is complete, and verified, th en we will have a better idea of who NAME: this person really is. Will of Joshua Jordan dated 1830, Joshua lists a William McCarty, as Joshua's grandson. At t his time, I do not know who this William is. Another source lists another daughter, named Eleanor who married a James McCarty on April 11 , 1817 in Clermont County, Ohio. The mentioned sources of the 1820 Federal Census - Pleasant Township, Brown County, Ohio. Ro ll: M33-86, Page# 377, could be in error. Although, Joshua was in Brown County, Ohio, ther e are TWO Joshua Jordan's on the 1820 Federal Census, that are VERY simular in information, e xcept one number. Further research is needed to verify which is the correct Joshua. The sec ond Joshua is listed as Joshua Jorden on the 1820 Federal Census, Eagle Township, Brown Count y, Ohio. Roll: M33-86, Page# 345. Joshua Jordan was living in Washington County, Pennsylvania prior to emmigrating to Ohio. Jo shua Jordan had purchased land in Washington County, Pennsylvania in 1789. This emmigratio n seems to hae happened in the first part of the 1800's, certaintly before 1810. The verifie d Jordan family is seen in Adams, Clermont and especialy in Brown Counties. Four Jordans are found on the 1790 Census in all of Washington County, Pennsylvania. Perhap s all related? They are: Jacob Jordan Pg. 251(Could this be the Jacob Jordan that was also 'from Cowan NC'?) Jno Jordan Pg. 254 (This is Chartiers Township) Johua (Joshua) Jordan Pg. 253 William Jordan Pg. 245 Sources: Title: No Record Found Abbrev: No Record Found Page: Accepted Information Title: United States Federal Census Abbrev: United States Federal Census Page: 1820 Federal Census - Pleasant Township, Brown County, Ohio. It lists the following information: 1 male under 10 (Joshua Jordan Jr.) 2 males 16-26 (one is either Aaron or Washington, as I do not which was born when, the othe r is not born yet apparently) 1 male over 45 (This is Joshua himself) 1 female under 10 (This is Laurannah) 1 female 25-45 (This is Dorcus, Joshua's second wife). Title: United States Federal Census Abbrev: United States Federal Census Page: 1790 Federal Census Washington County, Pennsylvania Roll:M637-9, Page# 253 Note: Joshua Jordan is listed with the following information: 1 male 16 and over, (namely Joshua Jordan, himself.) 4 males under 16 (John, Samuel, and Joshua, 4th male ?) 4 females Deborah, Sarah, Eleanor, and mother Deborah) This 1790 Federal Census source is possitively the Joshua Jordan for which it is intended. A ccording to the deed of Joshua in 1789, it lists the neighbors by which the land borders, nam ely: Abraham Arnold, Phillip Stichles, William Hulse and John Lines. The 1790 Census of ou r Joshua Jordan, also has the verified neibors of the Arnolds, Philip Stichles (looks like Ni ckel) and also John Lines. The location where Joshua Jordan lived is: Finley Townsip, Washington County in 1788 Richhill Township formed out of Finley Township in 1792. Green County formed out of Washington County in 1796. So, by 1796, they lived in Richhil Townsip, Green County, PA. My Jordan line came from Pennsylvania also. My ancestor, Jacob Jordan was born in 1764 in Loudoun co, Va. By 1806 he has moved the family to Guernsey Co, Ohio. I noticed your ancestors were in Pennsylvania & Ohio also, but not the same locations. Did they ever live in the Shenandoah Valley in Va? There seems to be a migration pattern of sorts from Pa to Ohio. In Jacob's case by way of VA. Has anyone else noticed this in their Jordan research?
