    1. RE: [JORDAN] Listowner Post - ROLL CALL!!

    3. I am looking for confirmation of the parents of Thomas Jordan who married Mary (possibly Letts). Supposedly they married in Granville County, NC. I cannot locate anything to confirm or deny his parentage. I was under the impression that his folks were: Arthur Jordan and Elizabeth Ann Turner. My Jordans are first found in IL building the Jordan Forts. Seven brothers went there, and many feel this Thomas is not the son of Arthur above. I did find another Arthur who died in 1752 in Northampton, who also had a son Thomas. Does anyone have data on that Thomas? 1. [JORDAN] William Jordan, 1798-1884, SC>AL

    3. William Jordan was born in SC on 8 Aug 1798 and died in Clay County, AL, on 4 Dec 1884. He was a veteran of the SC Militia, enlisting at Edgefield Courthouse near the end of the War of 1812, and lived in Pendleton and Pickens Districts in SC and Randolph and Clay counties in AL after his discharge in 1815. William was married to Elizabeth Davis (1795-1858) in SC and had the following children: Andrew Jackson Jordan (1830-1901), William David Jordan (1832-1910), Sarah Garrett. Jordan Rasco (1836-1929), Jane Jordan (1839-?), Margaret Jordan (1841-?), Charles Jordan (1841-?), Newton Jasper Jordan (1842-1863) and Priscilla Antoinette Jordan Rasco (1845-1918). Andrew J. and William D. Jordan were born in SC; the others were born in Randolph County, AL. William was also married to Nancy C. Green (a widow, 1830-1896) and had the following children: John C. B. Jordan (my g-gfather, 1861-1941); Lizzie Jordan Allen (1862-1881); Annie Jordan Burks (1865-1933); Frances Ida Jordan Yarbrough (1867-?); Alice Ada Jordan Morris (1869-1947); and Willis Joe Jordan (1871-1943). All the children were born in what is now Clay County, AL. Family stories tell that William had three older brothers, all veterans of the War of 1812, and none of them settled in Alabama, moving instead to Tennessee, Arkansas and Texas (didn't everybody have those same three brothers?). Based on land and census records, William's mother may have been named Mary and was most likely a widow by 1820.
