I'm having another whack at attempting to identify the family for Maria H. Jordan, born "about 1750", probably in Maine (died 1827 Mariaville) one clue is, she used a middle initial of H., and named one son Joseph H. Jellison now ... what surname might that H stand for ... Hanscom(b).Hanscum ? Hovey ? Hadley ? Higgins ? Hagen ? Hill ? Haines/Haynes ? Ham ? Heard ? Haley ? Hamlin/Hamblen/Hamilton ? Hutchins ? Hopkins ? what other "H" names were there, associated with the Jordans, and perhaps the Jellisons; in Biddeford, in Union River, in Falmouth/Cape Elizabeth ... or in Kittery/Berwick/Dover ? another horrible thought ... the cursive N is sometimes mis-transliterated as "H" ... what N names are there in this constellation ... perhaps Nason ? this "H' might stand for her maiden name, it's possible she married a Jordan, rather than being born one -- it's also possible that her name was not Jordan at all anyone have any bright ideas ?
