Collene, Thank you for your gracious offer. I was unaware that these people were based in Alabama. I happen to also have Alabama Jordans in my lines there as well. I have not tried to link any of my Tennessee families with the known Jordan lines from Alabama but my grandfather was a McCool. His father, William Alvis McCool was married to Mary Ann Segrest. Going back further than that couple to Mary Ann's "birth" in 1842 to 1844 in SC, I find her living with her "uncle" but she is enumerated as a daughter. Additional research and I found that Mary Ann's mother was Phoebe Lee who married Charles Segrest. Mary Ann was born 6 years after Charles' death and Phoebe was tossed out of the church prior to birth for being "buliky". The other party was also dismissed but upon his begging forgiveness from his wife and church for being led astray, he was readmitted. Do not recall his name but it's of German descent, as are the Segrests. Phoebe was the mother of several children by Charl! es including the son who ended up raising Mary Ann as his own daughter, altho he also had a daughter Elizabeth 6 months younger than Mary Ann. I wonder if they tried to pass them as twins.... Anyway, whomever this son (Benjamin T. Segrest) married, (Sarah Roe Robinson comes to mind) she was from SC I think and I'll need to get more info after I get home but I believe it was this son and his wife who's children married the Jordans in Alabama. Last of all there are similar names in several Alabama Jordans as there were in the NC to TN Jordans. Names are Enoch, Thomas (pretty common anywhere), Arrena/Orena/Arina, similar sounding names. She was Mr. Theo Dalton's grandmother. Although Mr Theo Dalton was born and lived I believe all of his life in Pike County, Alabama, that they had roots in TN and NC. I will have to go back and read the book again and get that information for you. Mr. Teo Dalton was the principal of Goshen High School, as well as principal of other schools in Pike County, Alabama and eventually taught at Troy State University. He died about 2 or 3 years ago, so I can't ask him peronsally. His wife, Sue, also died last year. Thanks for writing and I will check on that information. The Dalton/Daulton/Dolton surname (families) were in VA and TN near the Jordans and most likely there would have been some marriages. Time frame I need is mid to late 1700's and into 1800's up to 1850. Actually any Tennessee Dalton information would be helpful for me. > > I attended a convention in Fort Smith, Arkansas (Coffee/Coffey) and there was a representative of the east TN Dalton lines, these lines having a beginning in VA early on. This gentleman's Dalton lines are well represented in my own Coffey lines, and it is my Caswell Coffey who did marry the unknown Jordan lady c 1829. Caswell's daughter Elizabeth b c 1858 did marry into this man's Dalton lines but he and I are connected much earlier, mid 1820-1830 to a couple of other "unions". > > > > Collene Mount wrote: > His full name was Silas Samuel Jordan and I am looking > for his Biography. Right now, I don't have any information on the Jordan names (Alabama Lines) that you have listed. I may run across them, and if I find them I will post them on the Jordan list. Do you search the www.rootsweb.com for information on William Henry Jordan, if not try it and see what you find through rootsweb. Sometimes you will find that others are researching the same name or person that you are.
