    3. From _The Civil War Dictionary_ by Mark M. Boatner (New York, 1959): "JORDAN, Thomas. C.S.A. gen 1819-95. Va. USMA 1840 (41/42); Inf. A roommate of W. T. Sherman at West Point, he fought in the Seminole War and the Mexican War, and served on the frontier in Indian fighting. He resigned 21 May '61 as Capt. and was commissioned Lt. Col. of Va. troops. Serving as Adj. Gen. at 1st Bull Run, he was Beauregard's Chief of Staff at Shiloh, in the Corinth campaign, and the operations around Charleston, remaining in this post until the end of the war...." Virtually any public library will have this book in its reference collection. He's probably also in Ezra J. Warner's _Generals in Gray, Lives of the Confederate Commanders_. (There's a companion _Generals in Blue_ if anyone's interested.) Karen Stuart
