This paragraph in Octavia's book is in error. I am a descendant of Archibald Moore Jordan. His father was Enoch Jordan and mother Elizabeth Stepp. Elizabeth Stepp Jordan left a Will filed in 1844 in Giles Co. Tn. The widow of Samuel Jordan also Elizabeth was still living in a different taxing district. The 1844 Will of Elizabeth (wife of Enoch) names Heirs of son John deceased, Mary Dickey (wife of Matthew), Nancy Gibson (wife of James), Archibald Moore Jordan (wife Lucinda Brown), William Jordan and Pleasants Harvey Jordan, grandson. (We assume Pleasants Harvey was the oldest son of John (Jonathon)) The location of Elizabeth at her death was near the community of Dianah in the northeast corner of Giles Co. The Samuel Jordan widow lived more in the southcentral area of Giles closer to the Alabama border. Octavia did a fabulous job for the Jordan's but she was not perfect and we have spent a great deal of time untangling her error on our line. We have been unable to establish the parentage of Enoch. He is first found in Orange Co. NC in 1790. There is probably a relationship between him and a Robert and Thomas also of that county. A Thomas married Prudence Hargis. A Robert married Anne Pinkerton widow of David Pinkerton and Robert's second wife. Later in about 1823 purchases of quartersections of land in Lauderdale Co AL were adjacent: Matthew Dickey, Enoch Jordan and Robert Jordan. The land was located about 6 miles sounth of Giles Co. TN and 3 miles west of Limestone Co. AL We have been unable to track Robert Jordan. Enoch moved back to Giles by 1830 census and does not appear on 1840 census but his widow (?) Elizabeth does and Samuel's widow Elizabeth does. Thank you for the information that you have supplied. I have seen the name Enoch Jordan several times and I was wondering who his parents were, so as of now, we do not know who Enoch Jordan's parents are. List: I can provide a bit of back ground on the Enoch Jordan who was born c 1815 in NC, and died after 1880 in KY. This Enoch has been found near Ewel Jordan born c 1807 in NC and died after 1880 in Claiborne Co., TN. Both of these men have been found living near a Woodford Jordan born c 1781 in VA and died between 1850 and 1860 in TN. Ewel married Elizabeth McCoy, daughter of David McCoy and Margaret Norton McCoy and this couple resided in Claiborne Co., TN and their children were James 1829, Thomas 1831, Aurena 1840. There is Houston/Hueston Jordan who resided with this family in 1880 and is a servant, and then a granddaughter Sarah is listed in the 1880 census but I do not know which child is the parent of Sarah born 1859. I have never found any marriage record for James, Thomas, or Aurena and these children were living with their parents still in 1880 with all listed as never married. Ewel became quite wealthy and local history has both James and Thomas being the fathers of several children without benefit of marriage. I have never been able to determine who the parents are of this Ewel but I have found a Thomas Jordan born in Henderson Co., NC in 1808 who married an Abigail Payne and this couple went to KY. Their children were Ewel 1835, William O. 1839, H. Woodson 1840, Thomas W. 1844, Nancy 18! 47, Louisa 1849, Sarah Ann c 1850-1860, Darcus 1853, Almira 1855, Alabama America 1856, James 1857, Robert 1864. (Thanks Alvin Jordan for this data.) Enoch Jordan born c 1815, I do not know his parentage either. Enoch married Alice "Ally" Coffey, daughter of Jane Coffey. I am a Coffey researcher and I believe this Jane Coffey is the daughter of Benjamin Coffey, and a sister to my Bennett Coffey but have never found any documents to substain this theory. Jane Coffey is found near Enoch, Ewel, Woodford, and my Coffey's Benjamin, Bennett, and Caswell in several sequencial censuses. Ally's dates are c 1813-after 1880. The children of Enoch Jordan and Ally Coffey Jordan are Calton 1834, Calvin 1839, Abigail 1840, Thomas 1843, Riley 1845, John 1849, Nancy 1851, Houston (remember Ewel above? These Houston's are born 2 years apart.) 1853, James 1859, and Marvel 1861. Enoch and Ally left Tennessee after the Civil War ended and were found in Rockcastle Co., Ky by 1880, living with Marvel Coffey, their son-in-law who married Abigail in 1859 Hancock Co., TN. Both Enoch and Ally are buried in the Marvel Coffey cemetery in Rockcastle Co., KY. (Calton and Calvin Coffey (twins of Benjamin Coffey and Nancy Hayes Coffey are named after this Calton and Calvin Jordan. This Benjamin Coffey is a grandson of Benjamin Coffey whom I believe Ally's mother Jane Coffey's father is.) I do have brief notes on an Enos Jordan who was found in Caswell District, NC 1790 Tax List and have no other information. In doing some reading on these Jordan lines I am working on I do recall seeing that there was another Enoch born c 1804 in NC who did go to Alabama and married (a Jemimia is one spouse but I do not know if she is the mother) and he had a son Enoch born 1834. It is this Enoch born 1834 who married an Elizabeth Batson and they named one of their daughers Arena born 1855 , which is very similar to Ewel's daughter Aurena born 1840.
