When you participate in a surname DNA project done by Family Tree DNA, your DNA results are compared with every participant in the DNA projects done by FTDNA. If there are matches at the 12 or 25 marker levels, FTDNA will tell you by e-mail. If you have a match with someone who is not in the Jordan project, you can still contact that match through e-mail. If their surname group has a web site, you can go to the site for additional family information. Most of the surname projects have web sites to display their results. Go to the following site to see the FTDNA surname projects that are underway: http://www.ftdna.com/ You can also enter your DNA results into DNA search engines to find other matches not done by FTDNA. Those databases also give you matches in other countries so you can see migration path information. Go to the following web page for more information about this type of search: http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/JordanDNAYSTRdatabase.html When I enter my family DNA into a genealogy database, I get many matches in Norwegian and Scandinavian areas.
