We are from the Jordan's who went to KY then to southern Illinois and then on to Iowa.
I feel reasonably sure we descended from Arthur. Our last name is Jordan and we have 5 sons. One of them should probably be tested. What is the cost? Mary

Does it make a difference if one generation was all girls. They had boys. But does it change the results? Mary Hayton
If you have a male Jordan get him to do a DNA test. If he matches myself and the others that descend from Rev. Robert then he a descendant also. Then you know at least where to look. Also, we have had several Jordan's with Irish ancestery take the test, he may match them. It could point you in right direction to look. If you do a test now and do not match maybe 20 years from now some one will come up with a match. Hope it not that long!! Thomas S. Jordan was born on 3 January, 1832 in Macon, Bibb county, GA (according to his obit). Both of his parents were born in GA (according to his later census info). In 1847, he began apprenticeship as a printer in "the Advertiser" office (this is from his newspaper obit in Ashland, AL - I am assuming that this means the "Advertiser" newspaper in Montgomery, AL, given that, according to that same obit, in 1852 he was foreman of the job office that printed the Code of Alabama - Brittan and DeWolf, State Printers, Montgomery, AL). I can not find him anywhere on the 1850 census. He would have been 18 for that census. On the 10th of October, 1859, at Wedowee, Randolph County, Alabama, Thomas married Mary Creel, who was born in Carroll county, GA; she was the daughter of Jordan Creel and Mary (Polly) White, both of Carroll county. The 1860 Randolph Co., AL, census, Wedowee, Dwelling 17, in the same household, I find: T.G.W. Jourdan (28, male, printer, born in GA, married within the yr) Mary Jourdan (22, female, HW, born in GA, married within the yr) Cinthia Jourdan (38, female, HW, born in SC) T.G.W. Jordan married Cynthia Smith in Harris County, GA, July 14, 1853. Thomas S. Jordan and Mary Creel married in 1859. Apparently, the man listed in the 1850 Randolph county census is Thomas S., not T.G.W. Where was T.G.W. that day, and what relationship is he to Thomas S.? Cynthia died of some sort of fever shortly after this census was taken, according to the 1860 mortality schedule. The only additional mention of T.G.W. that has been found is on a muster of the Camp of Instruction in Talladega during the Civil War. Thomas S. was a courier for the C. S. A. between West Point, GA and Talladega, AL during the Civil War. I can not find him on a muster roll, but am told couriers were often not listed on a muster. On July 21, 1860, Thomas and Mary's first son, Joseph Wiley Jordan, was born. A second son, William Dotson Jordan, was born in 1862, and in 1864, a daughter, Mary. After the war, Thomas farmed for a while near Opelika, AL, then worked as a printer until starting his own newspaper, The Opelika Reformer. Little Mary died at age 7, and is buried in Girard, near Opelika. Thomas and Mary later adopted Mary Dyson/Dison, b. 1876. Apparently they did not legally adopt her, since she kept the surname Dyson until her marriage. In 1876, Thomas moved from Opelika to Coosa county, AL, where he and his sons published The Coosa News. In 1878, he moved to Ashland, AL, in Clay county, where he began publishing another newspaper. At 9:15 PM, 6 May, 1894. Thomas S. Jordan died in Ashland, AL. He had been a Baptist, a longtime Mason (he had a Mason's funeral, but no Masonic records can be found), and he was active in politics. Any assistance in finding anything more about this most frustrating brick wall would be much appreciated!! I'm looking for possible DNA participants who might believe they descend from Arthur Jordan and have a living Jordan male in their family. Thanks. Bob Jordan
I have a developing theory that James HILL (1763-1862) married to Mary JORDAN is the same James HILL buried in Roundhead, Hardin County, Ohio. He is listed on the Pennsylvania 1790 census living very close to his in-laws, the JORDANs. Also listed closely are his future in-laws the TIDDs. Sometime in the early or mid-1790s I believe Mary JORDAN HILL died. Then sometime around 1797 James HILL remarried Sarah TIDD and moved westward to Ohio. Does anyone have any information on when Mary JORDAN HILL died and where she is buried? FamilySearch.org lists her parents as William JORDAN and Jean SPRAY. The submitter of this information is FRED KWIATKOWSKI whose address is: C/O F G R C, 2108 CHAMPAGNE CIRCLE, SALT LAKE CITY, UT USA 84118. Does anyone know anything about Fred? Does he have an email address? Thanks for any info. Aaron Hill Salem, Oregon

This is spam and has plagued the yahoo groups for a long time, but now they're in rootsweb. Yahoo has made some progress dealing with this, but evidently rootsweb hasn't yet. We need to all report this to abuse@rootsweb.com so that they have the information necessary to combat this problem. This list admin can go in and unsub & block this subscriber, but that's all that can be done right now as I understand it. Dear Collene, Thank you so much for your reply and your information. I suppose that my Pleasant Jordan of Hertford County is really Pleasants Jordan. If you find out more re Pleasant Jordan, I might be interested. His birth is about the same time I suspect, of the father of John Rogers Jordan. JRJ, my great great grandfather) was born February 28, 1806, Philadelphia. It's possible that JRJ's father is Samuel F. Jordan and his mother Eliza Rogers. Does this fit with anyone else's family? Estelle
Here is something that I found in "These Jordans were Here" by Octavia Jordan Perry regarding Pleasants Jordan. Pleasants Jordan of Hertford County, NC, was a son of Robert and Jane Pleasants Jordan. His father, Robert Jordan, was in direct line of decent from Samuel Jordan, Ancient Planter (James Towne 1610), while his mother was a greatgranddaughter of John Pleasants, a worsted- weaver of St. Savior' s Parish, Norwich, England, who was born circa 1618; a granddaughter of John Pleasants II and Jane Larcome Tucker of Henrico County, Va. and also a daughter of John Pleasants III and Dorothy Cary Pleasants. John Pleasants III of Henrico County, VA., was born in 1672; married Dorothy Cary; and died in the year 1713. To this marriage of John and Dorothy Pleasants there came three sons, namely, Thomas Pleasants, John Pleasants IV, and two daughters, Jane Pleasants who married Joseph Robert Jordan and Anna Pleasants, who married twice. The first time she married Joseph Jordan and the second time Thomas Trotter. There is an entire chapter about three pages about this Pleasants Jordan, no mention of a child by the name of Sally.
