Hi My Name is Gareth Taylor and I am searching for my Ancestors on My Fathers side. So Far on this line William Jordan > Benjamin Jordan, 35 in 1867, Widower, Joiner in Leeds, Living New Park street, UK married Harriet Roberts 12th March 1867, her age 22, father John Roberts - Fountain Street, Leeds > Daughter Annie (AKA Hannah) born 1876 > Benjamin Jordan dies before 1891 census and after 1881 (not on census but youngest son 10 on 1891 census) Children Fred Jordan Born 1873 - Leeds - Brick maker Sarah Ann Jordan Born 1875 - Leeds - tailoress ANNIE JORDAN born 1876 - Leeds - tailoress Florence Jordan born 1878 - Leeds - tailoress Willie Jordan born 1881 - Leeds - scholar All Living 3, Second Avenue, Leeds I can't find any Birth, Death or certificates for William Jordan, and I don't know the family / first wife of Benjamin. I have no idea where William and his son Benjamin Jordan were born, and I have no idea with regards Roberts, other than Harriet Roberts, Fountain street lived in Leeds in 1867 and that a James Roberts acted as witness (perhaps her father had died by this time)
My John M (Mathis or Matthew) Jordan was born July 7, 1827 and died May 2, 1874. Married Margaret Minerva Elder December 24, 1857. He was from Louisiana. Does anyone know anything about him?
I have a James and Frances Jordan who moved from Williamson Co., TN, during the 1820s to AL, with James dying before the rest of the family settled in Bibb Co., AL. James was b. in 1793 in TN. Frances "Franky" Spencer Jordan was b. in 1791 in SC. They had 2 children: Thomas Alexander, b. 1814 TN, and Sarah Ann, b. 1822 TN. Might these be your Jordans? Carole Hays Quitman, Louisiana
Marie, Was there a John Mathis or Matthew Jordan in your family? He married Margaret Minerva Elder. Their daughter Mary Elizabeth married Edmond Welch and named my grandfather Jordan Dewey. They always called him Jurdan. John Jordan was from Alabama before he came to Texas. They settled near Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, and he went off to Civil War as a Captain. After the war they moved first to Red River County and then to Pilot Point, Denton County. Does any of this sound familiar? mmhayton

I, too, am looking for a James & Frances Jourdan/Jordan. All I can find is in the 1870 US FEDERAL CENSUS-ALABAMA-MOBILE BEAT 2 Ancestry.com Image 17 of 84 148-148 Jordan Frances-69-M(F)-W-HouseKeeping-SC, later found a death certificate stating she was born in France. In the household was William Jordan-17-M-W-At Home-AL, A James Johnson-35-M-W-Coal Burner-MS, his wife, Sarah-23 B: AL, and son Joseph-2 B:AL. There was a James Jordan/Jerdan/Jourdan in Mobile, AL at the same time who was listed on William Henry Jordan's marriage license when he married in 1872. There was some speculation that Francis was married to a James Jordan before his death, but where or when??? Could your Jourdans connect with these listed above? Any clues would be deeply appreciated. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Genealogy1098@aol.com> To: <JORDAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 10, 2004 6:13 PM Subject: [JORDAN] Jordan of St Clair Co. According to the notes I have at home which are old family notes (that is if memory serves me correctly) the relationship to Pochahontas came down through the Fleming/Bolling side of the Jordan family. Samuel Jordan m Eliz. Fleming and I seem to recall it came through her side. They would have been Rueben Jordan's grandparents. My great-grandparents were Owen M. Jordan and Sarah "Sallie" Emmons Jordan, who are both buried in Huxford Bapt. Church Cem., Huxford (Escambia Co., AL). Their two youngest daughters are buried in Enon Cemetery, Monroe Co., AL, which isn't too far away -- and perhaps Owen and Sallie were living on the outskirts of Huxford (ha!) when the little girls died. I think the names of these two children may give me some clues about the family, but I don't know what: Sallie O. Nealey Jordan was born in January of 1896 and died in August of 1900; her little sister, Katie Malottie Jordan, was born in January of 1899 and also died in August of 1900 -- the little girls died within a few days of each other. Of course, I would like to know what epidemic killed them, but I wonder if anyone else recognizes the source of their middle names. Sallie is definitely O. Nealey on her tombstone, as opposed to O'Nealey. Any advice or hints will be appreciated. Faye
Let me look through my database, at least, and get back to you later. Soon. FAye
I have some information on Reuben Jordan from GA, but I am always interested in hearing more! Connie Grund AL

Dear Marie, Don't know if I can be much help. I went on rootsweb and found that Mortimer Harvie Jordan's grandfather was Matthew Jordan. Matthew Jordan had a son named Matthew Jordan but I wasn't able to find much info on him. I looked on www.familysearch.com and found Matthew Jordan married Elizabeth Magee in 1820 but there was no listing for his parents or for hers. I would venture to say he was related to Mortimer Harvie Jordan m Lucy Scott Gray as he was in Jefferson Co., Ala. and so were my Jordan/Jurdans. If you find anything let me know. Well, hello Cousin Abigail, I am descended from Mortimer Harvie Jordan through his daughter Margaret who married Joseph Riley Smith. Their daughter, Emma Smith married (Isaac) Rose Wellington Owen Their daughter Mittie Rose Owen married Edmund Richardson McDavid, who were my great grandparents. The Owen Plantation House still exists in McCalla, Alabama as a house museum. There is also a Sadler and a McAdory House. IThey are very rural farmhouses owned by the West Jefferson County Historical Society and the President is your cousin and mine, William Gresham who is a Prince, Jordan and a Robinson. Have you been to any of the Jordan/Prince/Robinson reunions? There hasn't been one for quite a few years. We have a gathering here about once a year of all the descendants of the pioneer families who started out in the Jones Valley which is Bessemer /McCalla. We have a family dinner and there are usually about 85 of us. We are not all related to everyone at the gathering, but those families intermarried so much alot of us are related, sometimes 2 and 3 times! The pioneer families are Sadler, McAdory, Gillespy, Owen, Smith, Jordan, McDavid. Since I organize it, I basically invite everyone I am related to and there are all sorts of relations found. I have skipped the last 2 years because the Owen House needs some major repair work and that is where we were having our gatherings. Connie Grund

One of your sons would be a VERY GOOD Jordan to take the DNA Study test. It easy to do. Just go to http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/DNAindex.html. look the site over and then click on "DNA Test Kit Order Form". WE strongly recommend the 25 marker test. The cost is $171.00. (Take up a collection in the family). It easy, they mail you a test kit, you run a swab around in mouth couple times and mail it back. All by mail & e-mail.
