    2. The Jordan that I would invite would be my 4th great-grandfather, David JORDAN, born September 1794 in Pennsylvania, I would love to ask him about his parents and grandparents and where they were from, where he was born and who his siblings were. I would also like to know a little about each of his 3 wives, their names where they were from, and who their parents were and also the same about each of his children. He had to have been a hardy sort of man. He was the father of 18 children, with the first 12 from his first 2 wives, (he raised 7 of the 13 to adulthood) and the last 6 from my 4th great-grandmother, Alvira BLOOM, born 1816, Niagara Co., NY. He lived in Seneca Co., in 1823 and was in Niagara Co., NY by 1830, and moved to Steuben County, Indiana in 1851. He died in April 1873 near Angola, Indiana. I would love to talk to him and Alvira about what it was like when they were married and then about the trip to Indiana. What were their fears and were the Indians a great concern and what precautions did they have to take? Also I would ask Alvira about how she coped with being a step-mother to 13 children. 1. Guests for Thanksgiving

    3. I would love to have several of my Jordan (Jurdan) ancestors for Thanksgiving or any other time. First, would be my grandfather, Papa Jordan (John Jordan Knox) he died when I was 7 and is the one I think of everytime I hear the song by Randy Travis, 'He Walked On Water'! I was the first grandchild and if I could just remember all of the things that he talked about then!! The country roads that we went on in Columbia County, Georgia. I would also want my Mama Knox to be with him because they are the most perfect loving couple I have ever seen together. I have a picture of them that just makes me think of love, respect, honor, togetherness and everything a marriage should represent! Second, his great grandmother, Mahala Jordan, and her parents - Miles Jordan and Mildred Willingham. I have questions as to who Mahala married the first time, he would have been a Jordan also and she had 3 children by him. My search for Mahala let me to find a cousin who has been one of the greatest finds of all of my research!! We feel that Mahala brought us together!! Mahala married Hensley Landers in May 1838 in Columbia County, Georgia and had 3 more children by him. She died after the 1880 census. Would love to know when, where she is buried, and why I feel such a close connection to her!! Third would be my Papa Jordan's mother, Mary Frances Jordan, she was a beautiful woman and died when my grandfather was about 12 years old. They said that my mama and I looked like her but when I saw a picture of her, I may have some of her features but will never be and never have been as beautiful as her! Sorry so long, but that would be my perfect guest list!! Thanks, Jan

    2. Norman Jordan
    3. I would love to have my Gt. Great Grandparents, Clement Jordan & Eliza Dyer set down to Thanksgiving Dinner with myself & 10 or 12 other descendants. My gosh Eliza, how brave of you to, at age 50, to leave your home here on the Maine coast and follow Clement all the way to Iowa. My, you must have stories to tell. AND you Clement how about your service in War of 1812? Can you tell us about life on the privateer "Dart" and later when in Havana Cuba the news arrived of victory. How come you after 40 years at sea retired in 1848 and moved most of your family to Iowa. After dinner we will take a ride (maybe walk if they able) 1/2 mile down road to see the old house they left behind with Clement Jr. Happy Thanksgiving to the JORDAN family Norman

    3. I would invite my gggrandfather William Jordan born 09 Dec 1863, and ask him to bring his mother, Fanny Letts, and his father, William Jordan, and ALL the rest of the family! I love ot cook big meals, and would love to hear all about the old days in Ireland. William Sr.'s naturalization says he was from Co. Derry, and I would love to hear about the trip across seas, and how and what he and the family did when they first came the US to live. I have soooo many questions I couldn't even know where to start. But most of all I would love to ask my grandma Alma Letts Jordan Smith to join us. I miss her! HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, we have so much to be thankful for, compared to what our forefathers struggled with...no electricity...no running water...no cars...no gas, diesel, etc. You get the picture! Say a blessing for all you have and say a prayer for those less fortunate. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - You care about security. So do we.

    3. I would love to sit at the Thanksgiving table with my great-grandparents, Elizabeth Jordan Wagner and her husband Philip Wagner. She immigrated with her parents from Erkeln (near Brakel), Germany when she was 9 years old in 1859! Elizabeth and Philip raised 9 children in New York City and made their living as butchers. Though I have learned a lot about these ancestors, I would ask them what their trip across the Atlantic was like, what was the Civil War like for Philip, how did Elizabeth manage the family and the family business after Philip died, and finally, ask if the family myth that we are related to Richard Wagner, the composer, is true! Yes, I, too, would not let them go all weekend. The glory of family history research is finding out how we are all connected - the frustration is longing to find out even more! Happy Thanksgiving to All Jordans and to All! -----Original Message----- From: JORDAN-D-request@rootsweb.com [mailto:JORDAN-D-request@rootsweb.com] Sent: Wednesday, November 24, 2004 11:00 PM To: JORDAN-D@rootsweb.com Subject: JORDAN-D Digest V04 #129

    3. This is such a neat topic. Place me at the table with Lorri and Linda with Edward and Elizabeth Jordan. Like Lorri, I would love to know Edward and Elizabeth's parents plus more about their other sons Benjamin and Samuel plus the daughter who died young leaving virtually no records except the names of her two children Presley and Frances Hightower. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone...Patty

    3. This is a very nice thng to do. I'd invite my grandfather Jay Warren Jordan, the only person in this group I'm acquainted with. I'd invite his father, Henry Harrison Jordan, 1840-1881 and query them both as to why they never seemed to keep in contact with Henry's nine siblings. Included also would be his wife, a native of the town I live in; I'd ask her who she was visiting in a nearby town when she died in 1920. I'd also invite his father John Rogers Jordan, 1806-1886 to find out who his father truly was, and who his mother truly was and if they descended from the Maine Jordans; from the Jordan's Crossing Jordans; and what country they originally came from. They all lived and died in New England. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Estelle

    3. Dear All As a Thanksgiving Dinner, I do not much about this, though suspect the native American's don't quite see the coming of the settlers in the same light as the settlers do of themselves. Speaking from the Old country, and presuming I had a suitable celebration, I think I would like to invite My Great Grandmother, Hannah Jordan (b.1876), a most magnificent lady, whom unfortunately I never met. She was a wonderful person, full of love and charm, who captivated every audience. My question would be to her, Why did she meet the British Prime Minster and where? I think I would have like to have met the Marquis of Salisbury as well. This is all family legend and was always spoken in whispers. I am still unsure of the story, or even if there was one - but it would be fun to find out. I think I would have liked to have had dinner in their dining room of their Victorian House in Leeds. I am sorry to say its been replaced by concrete block houses now - only a single wall remains of the Stables, incorporated into a garden wall. The only mental picture I have, I never got to meet my GGparents, is of my GGFather sitting in his chair, in profile to a picture of Churchill on the wall - trying to look like him (well a thinner version anyway). My GGF died about 1951. His son in law, my Grandfather was completely the other colour politically. - Both really nice blokes though ( I was lucky enough to spend a little time with my GFather before he passed away). 3. Ahh, Thanksgiving Dinner Guests...yes, I would invite my Jordan but she might have to come alone since I can't locate any of her relatives to invite. She and my great grandfather, James Abney Barnes, were married on October 18, 1874 in Sevier County, Arkansas. Her name on the marriage certificate was "Jepthy Jordan". She told the clerk that she was 24 years old. She later told census takers in the 1900's that her first name was Sarah, that she was born in Mississppi, her father was born in Georgia and her mother was born in Alabama. Her son, my grandfather told me that his mother's name was "Jepsy Parilee Jordan". We would have quite a conversation over the dinner table. Like how could your family have buried you at Wheellock Academy in McCurtain County, Oklahoma and not at least written down the date that you died?? I know that you must have been a caring person, you raised a grandson when your daughter Sally died shortly after giving birth to him. Sally was married to Joseph Marion Hall on April 29, 1914. This seems to have been his third marriage and her second. There has been mentioned another ghost, Uncle Ben Jordan....maybe Sarah's brother. We could invite him also if we only knew how. Thanks! 3. I would invite Nathan Jordan of Chowan County, North Carolina who served in the Revolutionary War and his wife Christian Minchen ( Minchew ) My 3rd great grandparents. I too would ask where they were born, where they are burried, and where the family bible mentioned in his estate inventory is. I would like to know about the battles he fought in and where. Where did Christian live after Nathan's death. Also his son Docton and wife Milly. I would ask Milly what her maiden name was and where she was born. 3. I would invite my g-g-grandfather, Franklin Willard Jordan (8 Sep 1854-12 Jul 1935). He married Susan Augusta Bonzey (30 Apr 1860-25 Aug 1913) on 22 Jun 1878. They were both born, married and both died in Millbury, Worcester Co., MA. I would like to have Frank to dinner because I want to know more about a family story concerning him. The story goes that shortly after his marriage to Susan, who had a Native American ancestor, Frank had a dream. He dreamed that an "Indian Chief" was in his bedroom, at the foot of his bed. The Chief took Frank to the Central Cemetery in Millbury, and told him that if he dug into the earth, beneath a certain Oak tree, Frank would find a marvelous cache of gold coins, a treasure given to the Chief for safe keeping by a white man in trouble who had befriended him. The white man died without ever retrieving the gold. I would love to know if Frank ever did dig for the gold, and if not, how strong was his desire all those years of married life to do it? I wonder if the Chief was perhaps pleased that his "descendant" Susan had married a white man, worthy of divulging the secret too, and wanted to return the gold to the "white man." It certainly is a romantic story. I couldn't vouch for the veracity of it, but if the treasure had "trickled down," to use a Reagan-esque phrase, I might have been QUITE thankful! Rev. Joel B. 1. Re: [JORDAN] LISTOWNER POST - Thanksgiving Dinner
    2. Of all my family ancestors, definately my g grandfather, James Jordan! He was born in Sallisaw Indian Territory in the early 1860's and died in McAlester, Pittsburg County, OK in 1941. He was a coal miner for years and married my g grandmother in Cherryvale Camp, Indian Territory in 1896. I have about a million questions I would ask him, but the first ones would be: What are your parents' names and where were they from? Who were their parents, sisters, brothers, etc. And, who were your sisters, I hear there are two and that one lost an arm in a railroad accident, but who were they and did you have any brothers? The family story is that you are Cherokee and you are listed on the 1930 census as mixed breed Cherokee, but please tell me more about that and about how you grew up as a Cherokee mixed breed. Another family story is that you worked at some point as some type of law enforcement officer in the Cherokee Nation Indian Territory, please tell me about that. How many children did you and G Grandma Fannie have and what were their names? We know of a baby, either James Jr. or Freddy, depending on who you talk to, and the younger kids including Claud, Gladys, Jess, Orfus, and Opal. But, there are graves in Franklin County Arkansas listing you as parents (we think) and on censuses, there are different numbers given for "total number of children born to this mother". Finally, the last really important question is another family story, one that I was told as a "bedtime" story from the time I can first remember, by my grandfather, your son, Jess. It is about you, G Grandma Fannie and a baby returning to Indian Territory from Arkansas by boat instead of by train because you'd cut your foot badly when chopping wood the nite before you were to leave Arkansas. It is said that the river trip was rarely made then without catastrophe, but that you all managed it and there were many waiting along the banks when you arrived. I know my grandfather Jess was a very special man and that specialness runs to my father also, so my g grandpa James/Jim has to be a very interesting person. I sure hope we could stretch the dinner to spending the whole holiday weekend if not longer so we could really get to know each other! Happy Thanksgiving everyone! 2. If I could invite any ancestor to Thanksgiving dinner, I would invite Jemima Hagel Jordan, my Dad's great grandmother, because she was a very interesting character who smoked a corn cob pipe, according to my Dad, and because I want to know what happened to her husband who disappeared during the civil war and who his parents where for sure. I would want to hear all about the other relatives who lived nearby in Wayne County, Illinois.
