Sorry Harry This Stephen Jordan is not in our line. At least not that we know! If you have a male with unbroken male descent from Stephen PLEASE have him do the DNA study test. Hi Norm, I would be glad to take the DNA test and Howard, Sharleen, my wife Joan and I plan to come to the 2007 reunion. Merry Christmas! Dave Jordan
Good to hear from you David Yes I had a good time showing your brother and wife around. I do it 3 or 4 times a year. Some times have people set up a date 2/3 months before and others just find me like your brother did. They gave me a little family info for my computer but did not get their family. Maybe if you remind them? You should come yourself. Take your wife for nice trip to Maine. We having the first planning meeting this Sunday for the next Jordan Reunion July 2007. That would be good time to come. We will have 250/300 from all over the country here. How about one of you Jordan boys out their in NY. doing the Jordan DNA Test. It cost $170.00 but if you get 5 or 6 to chip in $$ and have one do test it not too bad. I going to do a good (I hope) report on the DNA study this winter and will try remember to send you copy. I don't know the Edward Jordan line from Lunenburg County, Virginia, so I can't answer your question specifically. I can say that most of the Jordan families who have been in the southern states since the 1800s originated from Virginia. Of the 11 family groups we have matched through the DNA testing, seven originated in Virginia. Most of those families were in Virginia before 1700. See the following page for details: _http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/files/DNA_table_ancestors_111504.htm_ (http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/files/DNA_table_ancestors_111504.htm) If you have a male Jordan from you line participate in the DNA project, there is a pretty good chance you will find a connection with one or more of the Jordans already in the project. Has anyone who is descended from either one of the Edward Jordan families of Lunenburg County, Virginia been tested? I am curious which group we fit into and if we fit into the same group. Linda

If I am connected to Fleming or Harvie(as I have always suspected), it would be early on into the 1790s. They did come from the same areas, but since I could never verify Gray's parents I was at a brick wall. I'm going to check out the DNA site (sounds a bit like cheating..haha). I assume then, that my father or son would have to submit the sample? It would be great if I could break through that brick wall. Kathy in CA

A fool proof way to prove the connection between your Jordan line and the Gray Jordan line is to participate in the Jordan Surname DNA Project. We have 11 matched groups of participants who have a common ancestor -- many of whom could not get back past brick walls in the paper and microfilm search to find the connections. The Gray Jordan line from NC are in one of those groups as you will see on the following Web page: _http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/files/DNA_table_ancestors_111504.htm_ (http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/files/DNA_table_ancestors_111504.htm) The DNA test is simple and easy to take. A Jordan male descendant does a mouth swipe with a Q-tip and mails it to the DNA test center. Nothing to it. The order form and instructions are shown at: _http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/JordanDNAProjectOrderForm.html_ (http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/JordanDNAProjectOrderForm.html) The full set of information about the project is at the following page: _http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/DNAindex.html_ (http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/DNAindex.html) You might consider giving a test kit to a family member as a Christmas present. Kathy, Do you have access to any of the census? I do not as it is too expensive but I have found from examining the 1880 US census on familysearch.com that at times I can trace the neighbors of some families and it is very very revealing. Dear Kathy, I have never done any work on the JORDAN/JOURDAN family; all I have is the info I have gotten off of rootsweb. I do have a very old piece of paper someone in my family put together of the lineage from the JORDAN/JOURDAN,HARVIE, FLEMING, BOLLING, ROLFE, families all the way back to Pocahontas(sp.?). Like rootsweb I don't know if it is totally accurate but I will be happy to look at it and try to send you a copy. Maybe it will have some data for you in it. Do you know if you are related to any of the above mentioned families? Yes, I have often thought that my Jordan's are connected to the Gray family somewhere--I also know that Fleming Jordan (on whom much is documented) was in the same area of Georgia around the time that my Jordan's were there. However, I have never been able to find the means to connect them. Kathy in CA
I think you will find they are one and the same. I have baptisms for several children in the same family way back and some are spelled JOTDAN and some JOURDAN. Poetic Licence I reckon. Dear Kathy in Ca., Is your JORDAN pron. JORDAN OR JURDAN? Reason for asking----My gg-grandmother was Martha Gaines JORDAN (PRON. JURDAN) Her mother was Lucy Scott GRAY who married Mortimer Harvie JORDAN. Saw the name Gray and wondered. Unless DNA connects our lines, I can find not connection to your Jordan line of Barnwell and my Jordan line of Barnwell Co., S. C. Andrew was either the brother or son of a John Jordan or Garrett Jordan of Orangeburg Co., S. C. Ironically, my ancestor was a John Jordan of Barnwell Co. Your line is of German ancestry with roots in Pennsylvania. I would check records of Orangeburg Co. and Church records there. Sincerely, THOMAS KRAIG SPIVEY
I am looking for any information about the marriage of James HILL and Mary JORDAN in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania sometime in the 1780s or 1790s. Thanks for any help. Aaron Hill Salem, Oregon
