In the Pike County, Alabama Census records Joshua Jordan's age is listed as age 73-- We did not find Henry Jordan in the census records of Pike County, Alabama. He must have died in SC. Joshua Jordan and his family were living in the Northern part of Pike County (about 10-12 miles west of Troy, AL now) in an area called "Indian Creek" They were in a settlement living very close together. Please Note: They originally spelled their names Jourdan Early cenus records:

    3. Our family history began in France with one, Thomas Jordaine, 1418. From what I have read from various history books the Jordan family from which I came moved from Italy into southern France and were very promenient in society in the 1400 and 1500's. Some of the Jordans and other families, as well, joined the reformation, leaving the Catholic Church, and began worshiping together in barns, homes, and other places that they could find to worship in. A group worshiping in a barn were caught and killed on one occasion. And I am sure many others suffered much presecution from the Catholic Church. As a result of the 30 year religious war in France, many of the families moved from France to Scotland, England, Wales, etc. to escape this religious persecution. We begin with Robert Jordaine, II, who was born in 1499 in Melcombe. Regis, Dorset, England and died Oct 12, 1589 in Melcombe Regis, Dorset, England. He married (1) Ann Phippen. She was born about 1520. He married (2) Jane Corker abt 1530 in Melcombe Regis, Dorsetshire, Eng. Jane Corker was born in 1505 in Melcombe Regis, Dorsetshire, England. Children: 1. John 2. She was the dau of Thomas and Jane Phippen and was b 1601 in Burnham, Buckinghamshire, Dorsetshire, England and died abt 1677 in Charles City, VA., Henrico Co., Va. (Notes: from http://www. Familytreemaker.com/usersj/o/r/ Jack-A-Jordan-OR/Book-0001/0009-0025.html. In 1606 King James I of England granted a charter for settling two plantations in America; one in the Massachusetts area and the other in the Virginia area. The charter for the Virginia plantation was granted in 1606. In December 1606, three small ships and 104 colonists left England and arrive in Virginia, May 14, 1607. This colonyt at Jamestown, VA., became the first permanent English Colony, notwithstanding the fact that it almost collapsed a time or two. Samuel Jordan (1578-1623) the first of the Jordans to come to America, left Plymouth, England on June 18, 1609 and sailed for Jamestown with the interim governor, Sir Thomas West. They sailed on the Seaventure with six hundred men in a fleet of eight good ships and one pinnance under the command of Sir George Somers. Somers' flotilla encountered a severe storm near the Bermudas, which left the Seaventure unseaworthy. The other ships continued on their way to Jamestown. The passengers of the Seaventure, including Gov. West, Samuel Jordan, and the Commander Sir George Somers, decided to stay in Bermuda and build two ships, instead of repairing the Seaventure, in order to carry additional food and supplies the island provided. Samuel Jordan was chosen to keep a day by day journal because he was well educated. Samuel's long serves as the basis of much of our information today. The shipwrecked persons built two new ships the Patience and the Deliverer party out of the wreckage of the Seaventure. They set sail again for James Towne, May 10, 1610 and arrived in James Towne, Va on July 25, 1610. Samuel's first wife is presumed to have died prior to him leaving England. She was dead by 1620 as he was considered a special catch for any eligible woman at that time. 1. Re: [JORDAN] Listowner Post - Roll Call
    2. I descend from Joshua Jordan b 1818 and Jemima Jordan b 1822. According to The History of Wayne County Illinois, 1884 p. 77 Joshua's father was "a son of Samuel Jordan, an old soldier in the Indian wars." I tend to think this is probably accurate because one of Joshua and Jemima's sons, Sanford C, whom the article was about, was still living and hopefully was the source of the information. Some of my relatives on this list think otherwise, that Joshua was the son of John Jordan b. 1781 and Delila, but I am supposing (no proof!!!!!) that he was the son of John's brother Samuel Jordan and Sarah Summers. I was a very green genealogy amateur when I found information that John, b 1781 had a brother Samuel and have not retraced my steps since then to try to substantiate any of this. If either of these men (John or Samuel) was Joshua's father, then we likely descend from Josiah Jordan b 1712 and Mourning Ricks. We have some distant male Jordan cousins and I ought to try to get one of them to do the DNA tests so we can get to the bottom of this. I am only a casual genealogist because of lack of time and money, not because of lack of interest. I guess I should say that Joshua and Jemima's daughter , Mary Frances Jordan b. 06Sept1844 married Joseph Paul Pittman 1844-1919. Their son Ralph C. Pittman 1870-1944 and Ethel Faye Reid 1882-1974 were my grandparents and Paul C. Pittman 1918 is my father. My mother was Mary C. Hazen 1921-1973. Jane Pittman McIrvin

    1. Roll Call Jordans of Co. Carlow and Co. Wexford, Ireland
    2. My people are from County Carlow, Ireland. We are pretty likely related to the Jordans of Co. Wexford. For the Jordans "crossing the big pond" has been a revolving door in at least a few instances. D Jordan New York

    1. G W T Jordan
    2. Researching George Washington Thomas Jordan. SC>GA. Mother was Charity and had a brother Orrin M H who migrated to GA with him and his mother. Tom, as he was referred to, married Eliza Priest of GA. Most of there time in Ga. was probably in Cobb Co. and maybe some in Cherokee Co. Have also seen him referred to as Washington in early census records, when he was a child. Believe his father was William who remained in SC when the rest of the family moved to GA. Also William's mother was Elizabeth in SC. Anyone with any info on this family please contact me. Thank You Jerri McPherson-Jordan

    3. I'm still searching for info on my Lovick Pierce Jordan. He was born in 1807 in S.C. He was in Jones Co. Ga., about 1827, where he married a Nancy Heath. She died, and he then married Melinda Ann Freeman in the 1830's. They were listed on the Pike Co. Ga. census in 1850. They ended up in Chambers Co. Al., where he died in 1864. He is buried at Bethel Baptist church cemetery in Chambers Co. Al. Some think his father may have been a Jacob Jordan, and his mother an Elizabeth, but don't know her maiden name. I know there was a Jacob Jordan in Jones Co. Ga., at the same time he was, but I feel, this may have been a brother. Also, there was an Elias Jordan, there at the same time, and I feel he is also connected. Lovick did name one of his sons Jacob, and another son Elias, so there must be some connection there! I feel Lovick was named for Lovick Pierce, a prominent Methodist minister. I wish I could find concrete evidence on who his parents were. Thank you, Becky Carden

    3. Well, Kim, I am in the same boat, but since we have the WALTERS and JORDAN name we should get somewhere. MY JORDAN: Everett Eric Walters/Dorthea Jean Bradford........parents Annie Belle Jordan/John Taylor Walters My grandmother was to have been born in N Little Rock AR and that is the only thing she knows. She knew her Uncle Willie and Aunt Elmer Lee who came with her mother from AR ca 1900 but they are both dead and so is their only son. Her mother,Maggie Belle Lee married ??? (John) Jordan. He was to have died in a horse back riding accident when my grandmother was about 6 mos old. She was born Oct 13 1889..............so no records are available unless someone in the area recorded them or I can find a Bible record. I have no knowledge of any of the JORDANS for her mother moved to Parker CO TX and remarried a John Morgan Freeman and died in 1910 giving birth to her second child by him. It was an unpleasant situation when he remarried again so my grandmother left home and lived with some family I think MOORE when she was about 15. Maggie Belle Lee/?????????Jordan from Hinds CO MS and Drew CO AR Anson Pollen Lee/Arabella Nicholson Bedwell from Hinds CO MS and Drew CO AR So I am willing to work toward more information on either line. I would appreciate your help. Cheryl Lee Walters Parr Ourfarm <ourfarm@pitnet.net> wrote: Know very little about my Jordans. Joseph Jordan ( could be his middle name ) on Fulton Co. 1870 census.
