    3. My Jordans are from Germany; specifically Westphalia (Brakel and Erkeln). In Germany the family goes back to @ 1500. [If you have ancestors from there, see the database of births, deaths and marriages compiled at this URL...http://www.lesum.de/juling/erkelnlist.htm] About 6-8 Jordans immigrated to New York in the 1850-60s and were butchers and meat merchants in Manhattan. Several fought in the Civil War. Family surnames related to the Jordans include: Wagner, Alrogge(n), Vogt, Gorges, Borges, Herbold, Cattanach, and Fleckenstein. -----Original Message----- From: JORDAN-D-request@rootsweb.com [mailto:JORDAN-D-request@rootsweb.com] Sent: Saturday, February 05, 2005 10:00 PM To: JORDAN-D@rootsweb.com Subject: JORDAN-D Digest V05 #9

I really know very little about my Jordans, but I do know that Joseph was born in NH and traveled to Cal., and back and forth to Illinois. Nancy Long, his wife, was born in Va. The Walters side is my husbands side. The Walters he is related to founded Monroe, Wis. I dont remember any of them being in the AR area, they seemed to have traveled from NY to Wis. If I run across anything to the contrary I will be glad to let you know. I have no knowledge of any of the JORDANS for her mother moved to Parker CO TX and remarried a John Morgan Freeman and died in 1910 giving birth to her second child by him. 3. I am still trying to find the parents of Eliza Jordan, my great-great grandmother, who married David Everhart in Union Co., Il. in 1847 and appears in the census reports of 1850 and 1870 Alexander Co. as well as the 1860 Census of Union Co. as having been born in North Carolina about 1830. Catherine Jordan, probably her sister (born about 1835 in N.C.), married Frederick Everhart in the same county in 1850. John Jordan, probably her brother (born about 1824 in N.C.), married Mary Everhart in 1847, also in Union Co., Ill. (Incidentally, all these Everharts were born in Ohio, and I am still searching for their parents too.) I strongly suspect that the parents of Eliza, Catherine, and John were the John Jordan and Mary Yost who moved from North Carolina to Union County, Illinois in 1838, according to a 1998 posting on this list by Lisa Henderson. Is Lisa Henderson still subscribed to the list? Is there anyone else who can confirm this for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Dayton Cook, Aberdeen, SD
