Hi June, I am assuming you have looked at a map and have at least that much of a handle on the local topography. The Blackstair Mountains seperate Wexford from Carlow. At the southwesterly end you can travel down from Carlow and Kilkenny to New Ross in Wexford. On the Northeastern end of the Blackstairs the River Clody seperates Wexford from Carlow as it goes to join the River Slaney at Bunclody. The River Slaney, and thus the Slaney Valley, cuts through a good portion of both counties Carlow and Wexford. In 1989 there was a reprint of the following book: Kennedy, Patrick (1801 - 1873). Legends of Mount Leinster. Chapter III, The fight of Shroughmore, includes a part entitled "Daniel Jourdan and the fight of Shroughmore, a tradition of 1715." PATRICK Kennedy's pen name when the books were originally published was HARRY WHITNEY. Peadar MacSuibhne's 1975 book Cluain na nGall (1975) chronicles the parish just to the north of Bunclody. Modernly known as Clonegal, this parish includes equal acreage in Wicklow, Wexford, and Carlow. Bunclody is the nearest town to Clonegal, which by the way has a "chapel of ease" in Kildavin, Co. Carlow. Using the index for this book I found no reference to Eliza Ann, or Robert Jordan. Nor did I find any reference to the Pyers family. What other information do you have about the families? Pyers is a name I am not familiar with. One by one I'll look through some other books that cover the area. I was in touch with a Dan Jordan in the Chicago area. His family is from the Wexford side of the mountains. I haven't heard from him in a few years. I'll try to track him down and pass on your quest with your permission. Dan Jordan

We would like to find out the correct name (and location of, etc.), of the parents of the following three Jordan "boys", all of whom married Emmons women (cousins of each other): James Ladston, b. 1846 McDades Pond, Santa Rosa Co., FL - d. 1920 Pollard, Escambia Co., AL. Ely Mack Jordan, b. 10/30/1856 Florida? - d. 1940 Atmore, Escambia Co., AL. Owen M. Jordan, b. 4/1861(Oak Grove, Escambia Co., FL?) - d. 1933 Escambia Co., AL. The father may have been Isham (Isom), or John Isham, or some other given name; we believe that James and Ely Mack were the children of one mother, while Owen's mother was "Sophia" or "Sophie." If you have any information about any of these North Florida/Southern AL Jordans, please let me know. Faye (Owen was my great-grandfather)

Where in Kentucky do your Jordan's come from? Thomas S. Jordan was born on 3 January, 1832 in Macon, Bibb county, GA (according to his obit). Both of his parents were born in GA (according to his census info). In 1847, he began apprenticeship as a printer in "the Advertiser" office (this is from his newspaper obit in Ashland, AL - I am assuming that this means the "Advertiser" newspaper in Montgomery, AL, given that, according to that same obit, in 1852 he was foreman of the job office that printed the Code of Alabama - Brittan and DeWolf, State Printers, Montgomery, AL). I can not find him anywhere on the 1850 census. On the 10th of October, 1859, at Wedowee, Alabama, Thomas married Mary Creel, who was born in Carroll county, GA; she was the daughter of Jordan Creel and Mary (Polly) White, both of Carroll county. The 1860 Randolph Co., AL, census, Wedowee, Dwelling 17, has: T.G.W. Jourdan (28, male, printer, born in GA, married within the yr) Mary Jourdan (22, female, HW, born in GA, married within the yr) Cinthia Jourdan (38, female, HW, born in SC) T.G.W. Jordan married Cynthia Smith in Harris County, GA, July 14, 1853. Thomas S. Jordan and Mary Creel married in 1859. Apparently, the man listed in the 1850 Randolph county census is Thomas S., not T.G.W. Where was T.G.W., and what relationship is he to Thomas S.? Cynthia died of some sort of fever shortly after this census was taken. The only additional mention of T.G.W. I have found is on a muster of the Camp of Instruction in Talladega during the Civil War. Thomas S. was a courier for the C. S. A. between West Point, GA and Talladega, AL during the Civil War. I can not find him on a muster roll, but am told couriers were often not listed on a muster. On July 21, 1860, Thomas and Mary's first son, Joseph Wiley Jordan, was born. This son later practiced medicine in Ashland, Clay county, Alabama until his death in 1951. He also was elected to serve in the state legislature in 1930s. In 1862, a second son, William Dotson Jordan, was born to Thomas and Mary. As an adult, he owned a drug store in Ashland, Alabama. In 1864, a daughter, Mary, was born. After the war, Thomas farmed for a while near Opelika, AL, then worked as a printer until starting his own newspaper, The Opelika Reformer. The 1870 census shows: Girard Beat No. 1, County of Russell, AL, Post Office Columbus, GA, 27th day of June 1870 Jourden, Thomas 38 M W Farmer GA Mary 32 F W KH GA Joseph 10 M W GA William 8 M W GA Mary 6 F W AL Little Mary died at age 7, and is buried in Girard. Thomas and Mary later adopted Mary Dyson/Dison, b. 1876. Apparently they did not legally adopt her, since she kept the surname Dyson. She m. Robert L. Thurman in 1893 in Clay county, AL. In 1876, Thomas moved from Opelika to Coosa county, AL, where he and his sons published The Coosa News. In 1878, he moved to Ashland, AL, in Clay county, where he began publishing another newspaper. The 1880 census for Ashland, Clay Co AL; Stamped page 69; 03 Jun 1880; Asst Marshall J F Cole; Dwelling #58; Family #58: JORDAN Thomas W M 48 married Printer GA GA GA Mary W F 42 wife married KH GA GA GA Joseph W. W M 20 son printer AL GA GA Willis D W M 18 son printer AL GA GA DISON Mary J W F 4 adopted AL AL AL At 9:15 PM, 6 May, 1894. Thomas S. Jordan died in Ashland, AL. He had been a Baptist, a Mason (he had a Mason's funeral), and he was active in politics. Any assistance in finding anything more about this most frustrating brick wall would be much appreciated!! Here's my info for Roll Call. I need to find the parents of my gr gr grandfather; he is John Rogers Jordan born born February 28, 1806. JRJ married Susannah Darling May 23, 1826 in Mason NH. There is evidence they migrated to Jaffrey NH, thence to Lynn Mass. In 1880 Census of Lynn Mass. JRJ was age 74, born Pennsylvania and was a granite dealer. His death certificate states that JRJ was born in Philadelphia. His father listed as Samuel Jordan born New Boston NH; his mother Eliza with no maiden name. D D Honey states his parents are Samuel F. Jordan and Eliza Rogers. My guess is that JRJ's parents would be born about 1785. Any guidance is appreciated. Estelle

1. Pritchard Jordan 1800-1853, Pasquotank Co., NC, married Mary. I sent this two days ago, but I don't think it went through. I am still trying to find the parents of Eliza Jordan, my great-great grandmother, who married David Everhart in Union Co., Il. in 1847 and appears in the census reports of 1850 and 1870 Alexander Co. as well as the 1860 Census of Union Co. as having been born in North Carolina about 1830. Catherine Jordan, probably her sister (born about 1835 in N.C.), married Frederick Everhart in the same county in 1850. John Jordan, probably her brother (born about 1824 in N.C.), married Mary Everhart in 1847, also in Union Co., Ill. (Incidentally, all these Everharts were born in Ohio, and I am still searching for their parents too.) I strongly suspect that the parents of Eliza, Catherine, and John were the John Jordan and Mary Yost who moved from North Carolina to Union County, Illinois in 1838, according to a 1998 posting on this list by Lisa Henderson. Is Lisa Henderson still subscribed to the list? Is there anyone else who can confirm this for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Dayton Cook, Aberdeen, SD
