Seeking parents of JOHN JORDAN born 6 Mar 1764 where I know not. He died 26 Jan 1850 Pike, Wyoming Co, NY, but buried in family lot in Friendship, Allegany Co., NY. He married 15 Sep 1785 probably in or near Goshen, Orange Co., NY Julia SWARTOUT born 18 Nov 1769 daughter of Jacobus SWARTOUT who before and during the Revolution lived in Sugar Loaf which is now in town of Chester, Orange Co., NY but then in town of Warwick, Orange Co., NY. Following children born to John and Julia: Michael 1786 in Orange Co; William 1788; Jesse 1790; James 1791; hn 1792; Andrew; 1795; Betsey 1797; Isaiah 1799; Sally (Patty) 1801; JACOB 1803; Julia Margaret 1805; Unnamed son 1807 at which time Julia probably died because she does not appear in 1810 census. John/Julia do not appear in the 1790 census of NYS in their own home with two sons nor have I found them in PA, NJ or any N.E. state. By 1800, JORDAN family residing in Cherry Valley, Otsego Co., NY. From there, Michael, William and Jesse settled in and died in Steuben Co. James and John settled town of Cuba, Allegany Co., NY; Isaiah, after living with his brother, Michael in Steuben Co., migrated on to Allegany Co and he and brothers Andrew and JACOB settled in town of Wirt of Allegany Co., NY. Betsey (Elizabeth) Jordan married Sebastion WELLER and lived in Canajoharie, Montgomery Co., NY. Sally married John DYGERT and lived in Montgomery Co, NY. Julia Margaret married Charles PHELPS, migrated to Pike, Wyoming Co. and it was at her home that JOHN died in 1850. In 1840, JOHN JORDAN is still residing at Cherry Valley but by 1848 has migrated to town of Wirt and because he died before 1850 census was taken, it has been family tradition that he lived with his son, JACOB, but his will probate states he died at home of his daughter in Wyoming Co. ANY help would be appreciate on these above mentioned families.... Ruth Jordan Thoden RThoden@aol.com

Hi, list members! If any of you have any knowledge of folks on the 1860 Escambia County FL Census -- Alfred, age 60, with Sophia age 35, Ezekiel age 25 (and children that I believe are mine, but listed improperly -- there is Biddy, a female, and Ladstone age 12, and a female which I think should be a 4-yr old male Ely Mack but is listed as Ellie, as I recall -- not having that right in front of me) -- they are living next door to the widow Sarah Emmons Nobles and her family. Sarah Emmons Nobles being a neighbor is significant for my Jordan fellows: she was the sister to Emmons brothers who all had daughters who married my three Jordan brothers: James Ladson, b. 1846; Ely Mack, b. 1856, and Owen M., b. 1861 (my line). I am puzzled by who "Alfred" might be -- since we are looking for the father of our Jordan boys as "Isham" or "Isom" (which might be the Biblical name for "John" if any of you can verify that). It has been suggested that perhaps a neighbor gave the census information and did not understand the Head of Household's name and just reported it as Alfred. "Sophia" fits, since my Owen M.'s mother was Sophia -- James Ladson and Ely Mack had a different mother, name unknown (despite what has been reported on-line, we have no definite info on first wife's name). Go to www.familytreedna.com and look at right side of web page. You will find a column asking for surname. Type in Jordan. Web page opens with two different sites. I believe you click on the bottom one and you will be directed to the Jordan web page hosted by Larry Jordan. I am also DNA tied to Richard Jordan and Elizabeth Reynolds. Regards, Kraig Spviey
Dear Sandra, I apologize for not at least sending you a response, however I did not have anything to help you with your research but I guess it is nice to have people respond. Do you pronounce your JORDAN as JORDAN OR JOURDAN? You should be on my PRINCE mailing list; we have a wonderful time on there and everyone helps everyone else. Mine is spelled JORDAN but said as JOURDAN as in Mortimer Harvie JORDAN. Maybe you will get this list inspired to respond more. Have a good day tomorrow. Thank you, Bob, for taking the time to respond. At least SOMEONE is listening! LOL! I really miss the days when this list was active. <sigh> Several years ago, when email and the Internet was faiirly new to most of us, there was so much exctiement and activity on all the mail lists and now, the novelty has worn off, and it is difficult to get people to respond. :o( Back then, it seemed like connections and information just POURED in! However, since it all peaked, it just trickles in now. Also, thanik you for letting me know that Brittain was still there in 1810, I had missed that. I'm actually interested in the Zachary JORDAN that was in the 1800 Randolph Co, NC, census, so I'm trying to find out about the other JORDANs that were there, too. My working theory at the moment is, they went to Clarke Co, GA, after 1800. (Evidently, Brittain didn't go, though, if he was still in Randolph Co, NC, in 1810.) If this is true, then I'm thinking this might be MY Zackery!!! If so, this is a significant find for me!! I have not been able to find him prior to his marriage in 1807 Clarke Co, GA, and have never been able to connect him with anyone!!!!! At least finding him in Randolph Co, NC, (if this is the same one), I can assume he is probably related to the other JORDANs that were there. I really wish I could find others that were descended from these Randolph Co, NC, JORDANs. Thanks again for your help! There was a Brittan Jourdan listed in the 1800 Randolph NC census, age 16-26, one male under 10, and a female age 16-26. Other Jourdans there were Pegga, Maude, William, and Zackery. Brittan Jurden was still in Randolph Co. NC in 1810 on page 170 -- age 26-45, wife 26-45, two males under 10 and one female under 10. He was not there in 1830-40. I can't find it! Can someone help me? Thanks! Sandra
