Dear Collene, Have you tried HeritageQuest? If your local library belongs and you have a library card you can sometimes get on internet at home. If not at home then at library. I haven't tried it as yet but it is a good free site. They don't have all the census but do have some. Is the $189 for 1 yr. a special price? I could absolutely not afford $300. Ask your library if you can access at home. I have been away for a few days and I am trying to catch up on all the Jordan e-mails. There are several places that I see Samuel Jordan spoken of as the father of Thomas I....has anyone corrected that info? Samuel Jordan came to Jamestown, but we are not sure of the date, around 1610 and there is no proof that Thomas I was his son. The Virginia Jordans that descend from Thomas I, (born in 1600 in England we think) start at Thomas I . We have not proved back any further than that. Every once in a while when someone new joins the Jordan rootsweb we have to update them on the latest info on the Thomas I, the Virginia line. I so wish we could claim Samuel and trace him back to France, but it hasn't been done yet. It is a big disappointment to have to erase names from your genealogy chart. I remember how disappointed I was to find out that the Samuel/Thomas line was not proven. Connie Grund

Hi Margaret, Thank you for writing. I hope I didn't sound critical when I implied no one responded to my original post, because I have NO room to talk! :o\ In fact, a few weeks back, when we had the roll call, I didn't even participate at all because I was too busy! I kept a lot of the messages thinking I would eventually read them, but so far, that hasn't happened. I know there are a LOT of very helpful people out there and I appreciate all those who took the time to respond. My line was always pronounced the same way Michael JORDAN is pronounced. However, my parents came from Tennessee, and I remember when we used to visit family there when I was a child, and my relatives would pronounce it as "JURDAN". Being a young child, I thought it was just the strange way those southerners talked! LOL! Today, my aunt that still lives in Tennessee, says in her strong, southern voice, "It used to be JURDAN til ya'll changed it!" LOL! That is so funny! My dad was the oldest in the family and he always pronounced it as JORDAN as far as I can remember. So, I don't know who my aunt (his sister) was talking about when she said "YA'LL changed it". heehee :o) Sandra >From: Brown Margaret J Contr WRALC/LUTD <Margaret.Brown@robins.af.mil> >Reply-To: JORDAN-L@rootsweb.com >To: JORDAN-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: RE: [JORDAN] Re: Brittain JORDAN >Date: Thu, 10 Mar 2005 12:30:32 -0000 > >Sandra, > >I am new to the list and have learned there a bodacious number of Jordan's >out there. The library in Troy, close to where I live has books that list the Quaker records of NC and VA. I found most of mine in the internet. I had a subscription to Ancestry.com that included census, marriage, deaths, birth records, church records and immigration records. It has gone up so high now-- I beliieve now you can get a 1 year's subscription for $189.00 for a year. It is $300 regular price after April 1. I just about have all of my records so I am not going to renew my subscription. If you can afford it, it saves a lot of time having to go to the library and also timewise. Hi Dayton, Sorry....all my research has been focused in Tennessee and I know very little about NC JORDANs. In fact, I've thought mine came from SC, but recent clues have led me to believe they may have been in Randolph Co, NC, in 1800. Sorry, I don't have any info on Jordans from Illinois. There were several Elizabeths is NC, but there was not as much attention paid to the women as there were to the men. Check the early Quakers records for VA and NC, that is where I found lots of my info. Sandra, I am new to the list and have learned there a bodacious number of Jordan's out there. My Jordan name is pronounced like the River. The Jordan's I seek are from VA and KY. I didn't even know about the GA Jordan's, of which there are apparently an abundance, until recently. And to my chagrin, since I live in GA my ignorance has been a bit of an embarrassment. Even though most of the Jordan's mentioned are not my connections I have very much enjoyed reading about all of the other Jordan's. But most importantly, I have enjoyed the people that I have met and greatly appreciated all the help along the way. Good luck to you! However, since it all peaked, it just trickles in now. Also, thanik you for letting me know that Brittain was still there in 1810, I had missed that. I'm actually interested in the Zachary JORDAN that was in the 1800 Randolph Co, NC, census, so I'm trying to find out about the other JORDANs that were there, too. My working theory at the moment is, they went to Clarke Co, GA, after 1800. (Evidently, Brittain didn't go, though, if he was still in Randolph Co, NC, in 1810.) If this is true, then I'm thinking this might be MY Zackery!!! If so, this is a significant find for me!! I have not been able to find him prior to his marriage in 1807 Clarke Co, GA, and have never been able to connect him with anyone!!!!! At least finding him in Randolph Co, NC, (if this is the same one), I can assume he is probably related to the other JORDANs that were there. Faye, Were you the person looking for information on Richard Jordan of VA and NC. I got a lot of information from Virginia Early Quaker Records. Richard Jordan, son of Thomas Jordan of Chuckatuck, and Rebecca Rattcliff the daughter of Richard Rattcliff, did publish their marriage before a meeting of men and women friens in the meeting house in Chuckatuck on the 11th day of the 5 mo. in the year 1706 and coming before the second time at our mo meeting held at our Publick meeting house upon the 8th day of the 6th mo they did publish their marriage the 2nd time and were married in the house of Richard Rattcliff, Rebecca's father on the 22nd day of the 6th mon in the year 1706. My Jordan line came from N.C., but I am not sure where. My great great grandmother was Eliza Jordan, born about 1830 in N.C., living in Union and Alexander Counties, Illinois from at least 1847 until her death sometime after 1880. I think her parents were John Jordan and Mary Yost from Salisbury, Rowan Co., N.C., but I have no proof. It is also possible that she was from Randolph Co. Do you have any information that might help me prove that one way or the other? -- Dayton ----- Original Message ----- From: "S Lee" <ihunt4kin@hotmail.com> To: <JORDAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 05, 2005 4:43 PM Subject: [JORDAN] JORDANs from Randolph Co, NC > > Is anyone here related to the JORDAN lines that lived in Randolph Co, NC, in > 1800? > > If so, please write to me! I would like to speak with any one who know about William D. Jordan who was in Barnwell / Denmark, SC bef and after Feb 1847. William was paid for board & tuition during the years of 1851, 1852, 1853, 1854, 1855, 1856, 1857, 1858 & 1859 for the board and tuition of my 1st great Grandfather David B. Felder and his sister Mary Louisa Felder. I found that William had married the mother of these two Felder children and they had 5 children of their own. You can see why I am trying so hard to find some information on the Jordan children. I have over 600 names from the Felder children.
