    2. Robert Jordan
    3. I have completed major research in the Granville Co. NC area over the past 20 years. I looked at all records for Jordans there, which includes tax, marriage, court, and land deeds. I assure you there was no Reuben Arthur Jordan there. But, if you wish to look for yourself, please do so. Bob Jordan

    1. [JORDAN] Jacob JORDAN, Quebec, 1770
    2. Hope someone can help me. In 1770 a Jacob Jordan lived in Quebec, Canada. The American Genealogical Research Institute, Arlington, VA, states that Jacob Jordan immigrated to America on board ship Phoenix in 1751. NY State Secretary of State, Calendar of NY Colonial Manuscripts; endorsed land papers in the office of the Secretary of State 1643-1803 published Harbor Hill Books, PO Box 407, Harrison, NY 1987, on page 508 -- dated Nov 8, 1770 = Petition of Colin Drummond, John Livingston and JACOB JORDAN all of Canada, in province of Quebec, merchants in behalf of themselves and their associates, for a grant of tract of land on the south side of Oushtenique or Onion River, extending along the same three miles above the first fall, in length of each side six miles, and in extent on the rear equal to that in front on said river..... May 31, 1771 - Petitions granted. Can anyone tell me ANYTHING about this JACOB JORDAN? 3. Please get rid of the English parents of Arthur Jordan (1627-98). The name Reuben Arthur Jordan is an old mistake, perhaps coming from a Reuben Neal family connection. So, if you need verification of Reuben Arthur, you will not find it. By the way, George Jordan, the brother of the Surry Co. Arthur had a will which mentioned a brother William's children in England. William's family has been found in Yorkshire, England. Information concerning him and possible leads to this family can be found several years ago in the Jordan List Archives under my name - try "jorbob" as a search word and it will bring up all of my old posts -- some of you might find this interesting. The same mistakes are also made concerning the Thomas Jordan and Richard Jordan lines in England. No connection between Thomas, Arthur, or Richard has ever been found. I've been researching the Arthur Jordan line for 30 years -- if that matters. So, hope some of you will take the time to look at the archives. If ! you don't know how to get there, please let us know. Bob

    3. Several people have asked me where I got the information I submitted, most especially about the name "Reuben Arthur" -- this is what I have.... Myrna McDonald sent me the following: THE JORDAN FAMILY HISTORY - According to Harley Buntin Neal Mr. Neal of [address listed here - don't want to include without his permission] has compiled a number of books with regards to the Jordan Family and Allied Lines. This following section is some of the data taken from his books. Mr. Kirkman of [address] has also done detailed research on the Jordan Family Tree, some of the dates differ from Mr. Neal's, and also from various other information i've collected over the past few years, but hopefully we'll be close to the correct dates. I've numbered the following people according to the Family Tree Outline in hopes that it will keep everything somewhat clear. 1. William Jordan was born about 1570 in Gatwick, Suffolk County, England. He married Catherine Hussey (born about 1575 in Gatwick, Suffolk County, England). Child of William and Catherine (Hussey) Jordan: 2. Arthur Jordan Born about 1595 in Gatwick, England. Married __________ Rawlings. Child: 3. Arthur Jordan Born about 1629 in England; died January 3, 1698/99 in Virginia (ref: Will). Married April 12, 1654 in Surry Co., Virginia to Elizabeth Bevin (born about 1630; died about 1699 - Surry Co., Virginia. Elizabeth was the daughter of Richard and Mary Bevin. Child: 4. George Jordan George was born about 1653 in Southwarke Par. (parish?), and died May 13, 1718 (Ref: Will) in Surry Co., Virginia. He married Mary Browne (born about 1657 - Surry co., Virginia; died about 1718 - Surry Co., VA) about 1675. Mary was the daughter of Col. William Browne and Mary ________. George Jordan served with the Surry County, VA Militia in 1687. Child: 5. George Jordan (II) George (II) was born about 1678 in Surry Co., VA, he died April 1761 in Granville, NC. He married about 1712 to Sarah Hunt (born about 1690 in Surry Co., VA and died December 26, 1761 in Granville, NC) She was the daughter of William Hunt, Jr. and Tabitha ____________. Child: 6. Reuben Arthur Jordan Born May 13, 1715 - Surry Co., VA died December 17, 1793 (Ref: Will) - Granville, NC. Married about 1742 - Granville, NC to Elizabeth Ann Turner (born about 1725; died about 1781 - Granville, NC.) Elizabeth was the daughter of Joseph Turner (b. @ 1685 - Isle of Wight Co., VA) and Burchett Elizabeth Lundy (b. @ 1690 - Isle of Wight Co., VA; d. after 1737 - brunswick Co., VA. --------- continues from there - but THIS is where I got the name REUBEN ARTHUR JORDAN. I have not done any further research to prove any of this information - so I don't know if it's verified or not. DeAnne Braucht Martin

    3. I do believe that both Harley Neal and Frank Kirkman have revised their information on Arthur Jordan and no longer show Reuben as a part of his name. Frank's web site does not use Reuben Arthur. I do have an old copy of a post to GenForum where Frank listed him as Reuben Arthur but this was way back in 1998 and he no longer uses Reuben Arthur. Is Frank or Harley on this list? Their responses would be most helpful here. 3. Sorry - I didn't state in the original message... I don't have any "proof" about my information - it is just what I have in my files - all given to me by others. I would love any further information anyone would care to share on this line. I see the following still has a fatal flaw in this Jordan line -- copied from long ago. I have the correct children for Arthur Jordan of Granville Co. NC -- and his name was not Reuben Arthur Jordan. I also have the correct children of Thomas Jordan. If I remember right, there might be some evidence that this Thomas may have come from KY. Also, the parents of the Arthur Jordan of Surry VA have never been located -- another speculation that has been taken as "proof." Please contact me if you have questions.
