    1. [JORDAN] Re: Thomas Pleasants Jordan
    2. I believe that Thomas Pleasants Jordan was the son of Benjamin Jordan and Lydia Pleasants. Part of a will of Benjamin Jordan: At a meeting of the Commissioners to restore Henrico Records destroyed by the enemy-Held June 25, 1783. A writing purporting to be the substance of the will of Benjamin Jordone was laid before the commissioners and on the deposition of Robet Jordone was certified as follows: "Benjamin Jordone of Henrico Co. will of; Dated Feb. 10, 1775 to wife Lydia Jordonee the whole of estate personal and real after paying just debts with one third part of the land I now live on to her during her natural life. Eldest son Robet Jordone land he now lives on in Hanover County, known by the name of Streets. Second son Benjamin Jordone two-thirds of tract of land I now live on and remaining third at the death of his mother -said son Benjamin Jordone the whole of my estate, stock and block after the death of his mother that I should die possessed of as well as any that may come or revert to my estate to him and his heirs forever. Third son Thomas Pleasants Jordone land adjoining the tract I now live on known by the name of Hamblets. The will also mentions a grandson, Pleasant Robertson Jordan.

    1. [JORDAN] Sarah Jordan Sanford -- Putnam Co., GA
    2. I am interested in identifying the parents of Sarah Jordan Sanford and in any other information that anyone may have about her family. She married Thomas Goodwyn Sanford. They lived in Putnam Co., GA. Their daughter Mary G. Sanford married A. J. Noble in Eatonton, GA in 1847. Mary G. Sanford and A. J. Noble lived in Montgomery, AL. One source gives her name as Mariah, rather than Sarah, and says she was from Putnam Co., GA. Thomas Goodwyn Sanford was the son of Jesse Sanford and Martha Goodwyn Mitchell Sanford who lived near Milledgeville in Baldwin Co., GA. Thomas' sister Elizabeth Taylor Sanford married Green B. Jordan and his sister Emily Epps Sanford married Benjamin Pruitt Jordan. Any help would be appreciated. Andy Noble

    1. Re: [JORDAN] New to list
    2. Norman, After being in genealogy for 30+ yrs, and the experience with misspelled names galore, I really believe your W. Bridge Jordan and Elbridge Jordan are likely the same man. He could be a minister, and still be a farmer, or any other occupation. Ministering did not always pay enough to raise a large family, and you may not be with a Church full time, or only sporadically. I did check the National Index for W. Bridge Jordan, and got nothing. In the National Index, there are only a couple of Collin Greens that are white men. I have added one from Ohio. One in Indiana was "Cullen" Green. I found many Agnes Larsons in WI, but you did not give her age. It is possible that by marrying in 1900, they were both under 20 yrs old and would not show on the 1880 census. 3. I would not have found this but for the reply from CCarnivale with census info. This not going to help much but you never can tell. Charles and Ida were sibling born 1875 and 1873 to Elbridge Gray Jordan born Freeport, Maine July 26,1841 and Katherine Brennan born c1845 Ireland. I looked for Ida Green, Collin Green and Agnes Larson in the Jordan records and did not find them. Also no W. Bridge Jordan, I expected he a relative of Elbridge but can not find him. The names are so close ??? Did not find another family member moving to WI. I have some descendants from this family. One line down to now. 2. Leona, I found this Ida Green in the 1880 Census. Could the W. Bridge Jordan been the one below, and either the clerk mispelled his name or the census taker, or maybe the transcriber of this CD? Could Collin be John Collin? see below. I have no connection to this family, just saw your post and thought I would offer help, if I could. If you are connected to this line I can send you a copy of this marriage certificate. Plus if you are connected through the Chas (Charles) and Ida marriage we are cousins. 3. -----Original Message----- From: Alan McGowan [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 26 March 2002 20:50 To: [email protected] Subject: [ENG-HANTS] 1901 Census An interesting item posted on the Society of Genealogists List: > When I pointed out to my MP that some of the 1901 census transcription had been done by people on the Indian sub-continent, who did not have English as a mother tongue and who had no experience of English place names, occupations and personal names, he was frankly incredulous. I suggested he put a parliamentary question on this. Here it is with the reply... DL: "To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department, how much of the work to transcribe the 1901 census returns on to computer was carried on outside the United Kingdom; and if she will make a statement." Ms. Rosie Winterton (PS, Lord Chancellor's Dept):" QinetiQ Ltd appointed Enterprise and Supply Services (ESS) to undertake the transcription of the data from the 1901 Census returns. A proportion of this work was sub-contracted by ESS after full competitive tendering to a commercial data input company based in India and Sri Lanka (Hays Document Management). The proportion of transcription work undertaken outside the United Kingdom was 78%" Yes folks that really is seventy eight percent!
