I sent off for my test kit today. Several weeks from now we will have a test result for the Arthur Jordan line (11th generation). This line has been proven over a 30 year period by myself and has all of the required documentation - deeds, court records, bible records back to 1773, etc. which trace my family line back to Arthur (1627-99). I will be ordering the 25 marker test for $169 since I am sure of the line. If I take the 12 marker test ($99) and wait to update to 25 markers, then I pay 90+90 or $180. Norman Jordan, who is a board member of the Rev. Robert Jordan New England line, has agreed to be co-coordinator of the DNA Jordan project at FT-DNA. His line is completely documented also - back to the 1600s. The deal offered by FT-DNA is a 12 marker test for $99, which is a great price compared to what I've seen otherwise. All we need to make the bargain price possible is a total of $600 spent on the Jordan group. Norman and I will have taken care of more than half of th! e requirement with our orders. What we can do as coordinators (administrators) of the Jordan project is to place kit orders for Jordans, which will then be sent to the address given on the order with invoice, or billing information. Please give the FT-DNA web site a day or two to get this ordering information in place for the Jordans. I will get back to the list as soon as I have this information so others can place their order. Stay tuned.

Best luck with the DNA testing. It's exciting. Estelle
I received an e-mail return from Family Tree DNA today and am sending the contents to the list. Norman Jordan has also agreed to the test, which makes us a valid group for testing at a lower price. I think Norman will act as coordinator of the Jordan DNA group, but I'd rather wait for an announcement from him next week. He will return Tuesday. I will be ordering a test for myself next week also (Arthur Jordan line). So stay tuned. ----------------------------------------------------- From: "Bennett" <[email protected]> To: "'Robert Jordan'" <[email protected]> Subject: RE: Jordan family tests Date: Thu, 18 Jul 2002 16:41:16 -0500 Hi Robert I have set up a group admin page (GAP) at our web site for the Jordan Surname Project. Norman Jordan asked me about this in an earlier email. I am sending you the basic info letter we send to people about our Surname projects. It explains pricing. I'll answer your other questions first: Do you need the payment(s) to come from one person? Would you mail out the kits to separate addresses? The group admin (s) may order kits, to be shipped directly to your participants, and you may direct us to enclose an invoice or the kit may be paid upon order with a credit card. We would like to have the email of the participant and the coordinators email on the order form email line, so when the kit is returned to the office in Houston, both of you will get notification. Thank you for contacting Family Tree DNA regarding starting a Surname Project. We provide ongoing consulting and assistance to Project Managers for Surname Projects. Below are some tips and techniques for the Group Administrator to start a surname project, as well as the pricing available for Surname Projects. 1. Establish the Project objectives The Y chromosome is passed from father to son unchanged, except for a mutation about every 500 generations. Testing the Y chromosome will provide you with a genetic finger print consisting of 12 or 25 numbers. By comparing this finger print to others with your surname, you can determine if they are related. The objectives of Surname Projects vary. Here are a few: Identify others who are related Prove or disprove theories regarding ancestors Solve brick walls in your research Determine a location for further research Validate existing research Often a Surname Project has multiple objectives, and the objectives may even change over the life of the project. Most Surname Projects start with the objective to identify others who are related, and through out the project the other objectives are achieved simply as a result of the project. 2. Select either 12 or 25 markers The next step for your Surname Project is to decide whether you test 12 markers or 25 markers. Family Tree DNA recommends establishing the Project with the 12 marker Y chromosome test. 12 markers are sufficient to determine whether or not two people are related. In addition, the 12 marker Project Price of $99 is more affordable for participants, enabling you to recruit more participants. The value of the 25 marker test occurs when two participants are related based on the 12 marker test. When participants match in the 12 marker test, the test can be upgraded to 25 markers for a small additional fee of $90. The objective of the upgrade to the 25 marker test is to reduce the time frame of the common ancestor between the matching participants. The common ancestor is called the Most Recent Common Ancestor, or MRCA. Typically, participants are very interested in upgrading their 12 marker test to 25 markers when a match occurs. Two individuals are considered related for the 12 marker test if they match 12/12, 11/12, or 10/12. In all these situations, an upgrade to the 25 marker test is recommended. 3. Jump start your project The easiest way to jump start your Surname Project, and to get others interested in participating, is to find the first two participants. Participants must be direct male descendents, since the Y chromosome is passed from father to son. If you are a direct male descendent, you are 50% of the way to jump starting your Surname Project. You need to find one other participant. Most likely you have had contact with others with your Surname during the course of your family history research. One course of action is to select a few of those contacts and write them a letter or email about your project, and ask them to participate as the genetic representative for their line or family. If you get a second participant from this group - you have achieved your jump start for your Surname Project, and you are ready to sign up more participants. If you were unable to get a second participant, expand your contacts until you do. 4. Recruiting Participants Now that you have jump started your project, recruiting participants becomes easier. You might want to revise your letter/email to include information that testing has begun with genetic representatives from two families/lines, to determine if they are related. Including a brief family history of these two families/lines often stimulates interest. Develop a list of potential participants to whom you will send an email/letter. Start with those who you have had contact with in the past regarding your family history research. Don't eliminate the females - they may have a brother or father whom they could ask to participate. Asking for help finding a genetic representative for their family is one approach that often works well. You can find additional potential participants from searching the net, and also online telephone books. 5. Getting the Word out If your surname has an association, be sure to notify the association regarding the project. Send them a brief explanation of the project that they could post on a web site or put in a newsletter. Post news about your project to any appropriate mailing lists and posting sites. 6. Stake a Claim with a web site A web site is not required for a successful Surname Project, but may help potential participants find your project. There are many sites where you can create a web site for free, and many have tools which make it quick and easy to create a web site. Start with a simple site, telling people about the project. Once you start getting results back for the participants, you can easily add a chart and other information to the site. 7. Extra, Extra - read all about it Once you start getting results back for participants, you now have Genetic Genealogy News for your web site, your project participants, and others interested in your Surname family history. You might consider creating a short Newsletter about the project and the results to date, and mail this to your list of potential participants and any one with interest in your family history. Be sure to include a paragraph with a request for participants. ------ As a registered Surname Project at Family Tree DNA, your project will receive Project Pricing and a set of tools for the Group Administrator. The Surname Project Pricing is: 12 marker Y-DNA test $99 + postage 25 Marker Upgrade $90 25 marker Y-DNA test $169 + postage The Group Administrator tools include access to the Surname Project at the Family Tree DNA web site, where you can easily order kits, track participants, and down load results. You can register your Surname Project at Family Tree DNA by committing to six(6) 12 marker Y-DNA testing kits for $99, or any combination of testing kits totaling $600. Thank you for your interest in Family Tree DNA. If we can provide any additional information or answer any questions, please contact us. If the two of you are working on this together I can give both of you access to the GAP page and order screens. E-mail any time. I don't think Mr Russy is saying HIS Charles Wesley Jordan is the SON of Charles, but is descended from him. It is oblivious that CW Jordan, of GA., was of a later generation.
I have been going through all my old files, and this is what I came up with. The reference to Samuel Jordan's will is on some Xerox pages I have that were sent to me 25 yrs ago. There is no name on the pages as to what book they came out of. But, but a process of elimination, and the letters from the researcher who sent them, I think they are from a book by Lyle K.Williams of Fort Worth , TX. I do not have the name of this book! He quotes the Perry and Worth Ray's book, and some others, so I know it is not theirs. This is not a Jordan book, but they are included. I hope I am correct abt these pages, but I think it is Williams work. He says of Charles Jordan, that the book The Family History of Charles Wesley Jordan of Georgia (1839-1911), by John Wesley Russy, offers proof that Charles was the son of Samuel. (1679-1719). Mr. Russy lived in San Antonio, TX. He also mentions that the will of Samuel names two daughters who were minors and unnamed in 1718. So there were other papers, or an administration of the one Kim Ivey sent to the list. Lyle was not descended from Charles, so he did not go into any more detail on him or Samuel. He does have his death date right, which Valentine did not But he, like some others, call Samuel "Col." and I don't find any evidence that he was a Col., being Quaker, and I have never found any military service for him. He did die fairly young too! His son, Samuel, Jr. was a Col., so maybe he confused them. So...out there somewhere is more to Samuel's probate. Does anyone know what book Lyle Williams wrote? Carleen
I think I can prove my line:Thomas Jordan>Samuel >Charles>Elizabeth Jordan m Benjamine Sublett>Matthew Sublett>Martha Sublett m Tandy P. Cobbs>America Cobbs m Wm Basham>Mage>Irvin> Me! Does that count? Just because the name changes does not mean I am less a Jordan. Carleen
Connie, No one has proven that John is the father of Charles, (however I think he is), and no one has proven in any way, that I know of, that Alexander is the father of John. So the line has more trouble than the Scotland connection. Maybe someone on here can prove me wrong? Carleen
I have hired a genealogist in Scotland and the US and they have not been able to trace the Fleming line back to Scotland, which is suppose to lead to a royal connection. Have any of you been able to DOCUMENT a connection?? I am talking about Elizabeth Fleming who married Samuel Jordan. She was the daughter of Charles Fleming and Susanna Tarleton Fleming. The father of Charles is suppose to be John Fleming, his father Captain Alexander Fleming and his father John Fleming, the Earl of Wigton (Scotland). Apparently there is a problem connecting Alexander back to the Earl. I understand the "family tree" was printed in some old publications, but there is no documentation or information showing how they proved the connection. One genealogist told me it was wishful thinking! I certainly would appreciate any help, I would like to register the coat of arms with the Colonial Dames. Connie Grund, AL

Hi all, I'm so sorry if I haven't answered you're look up request yet, the requests are numerous. Plus, life has been a little hectic to say the least, and, we're leaving on a vacation for a few days. We'll be back by the weekend. then I have to work, so it may be even longer before I can get back to you. I promise to do my very best to find the person/s that you're looking for. I have done that for everyone so far, and that is also why it has taken me quite some time to get to everyone. Many people did not have much info for me to go by or had a few states and or names for me to look into and I've had to dig deep to find those that some were looking for. I hope to get back to you with your info very soon. Please do not respond to this email!! I am not excepting any new requests till after next Monday. I need a chance to catch up with what I have to this point and that may take a while. Thank you for understanding, Ella
This is the will of Samuel Jordan married to Elizabeth Fleming, daughter of Charles Fleming and Susannah Tarleton. The source I have is Tylers Quarterly Hist. and Gen. Magazine, Vol. 20 Jan. 1939 #3.
