I too am female Jordan descendant and wish to know also. I am descended from Isaac Jordan and Mary Susan Smith in Illinois. Isaac was the son of Lewis Jordan from Kentucky. I see that 11 Jordans have been tested at the Family Tree site. Is the administrator on this list? How can I find out who's been tested? I descend through a female, so I can't do it myself! Pam Pressney descendant of Isaac Baxter Jordan Vista, CA
I would also like a copy of the History. My husbands Jordans came from SC to GA. Please let me know. Thank You Jerri McPherson-Jordan P.S. Sorry Jorglen for the mix up in the email
Charlotte, Thanks for keeping me in mind, but after reading your line I'm afraid this isn't going to be my Jordans. I'm descended from Garrett Gannet Jordan b. 1794 in SC and married to Lucy ?? probably about 1821. They had six children born in Edgefield, SC: Uriah Emily Nancy Serena Absolum Martha Then, sometime between 1830 and 1837, they moved to Georgia where Lucy (also called Martha Lucy) was born. In 1840, a son, Garrett, was born in Alabama. The mother of this brood died and father married Mary E. Atkinson in 1845. At some point, they moved on to Arkansas where Lucy married John T. Green. I'm not sure if all of the children followed their father and stepmother as Lucy did. I know Emily died in Arkansas, but Absolum's children were born in AL and I don't have death dates for any of them. As you can see, my information is sketchy at best and most of it came from another researcher, although I am convinced that his information is reliable. Charlotte, Have you checked with the library at Shreveport to see if he placed a copy with them? Most libraries will also copy books for you at so much per page. There might also be a copy at the LDS Family History Center in Salt Lake City. I had a book copied there once. Good Luck! I have been reading some excerpts online from Goodspeed Publishing. Came across this that I thought someone might be interested in. For those not familiar with Goodspeed Publishing.. they a lot of BIOS. Nancy ------------ Data Entry Volunteer: Diana Flynn "A HISTORY OF KNOX AND DAVIESS COUNTIES, INDIANA" 1886 GOODSPEED PUBLISHING COMPANY, CHICAGO DAVIESS COUNTY, IN. BARR TOWNSHIP PAGE 812 JAMES F. JORDAN James F. Jordan, of Washington, Daviess County, Ind., is a native of the Hoosier state, and was born in Jasper County, September 12, 1845, a son of John and Sarah (Thomas) Jordan, the former of whom was born in Greenbrier County, Va. (now W.Va.), in 1802. John Jordan, in his early manhood, came from his native state to Indiana and for a short time lived in Tippecanoe County, whence he moved to Jasper County, where he bought a farm. In due course of time he crossed the state line for the purpose of marrying Miss Sarah Thomas, who was then living in Iroquois County, Ill., but who was a native of Indiana. He then settled permanently on his Jasper County, Ind., farm, and there died in 1865, a wealthy and highly respected citizen. The children born to Mr. and Mrs. John Jordan were six in number, and in order of birth were named as follows: Joseph T., James F. (subject), WILLIAM H.; John B. deceased; Samuel M.; and Josephine (the last named also deceased). James F. Jordan, the gentleman with whom this memoir has most to do, gave due attention to his schooling until fifteen years of age, and from that time forward assisted in cultivating the home farm until 1867, about which time he went to Batesville, the county seat of Independence County, Ark., where he was engaged in the livery business until 1871, when he became an employee of the Johnson & Romela Circus company, with which he traveled two years as boss canvas man. This circus company went to pieces, in Washington, Ind., leaving Mr. Jordan in the lurch. Here Mr. Jordan, during the winter and spring of 1874- 75, took employment in a livery stable, and was next an employee of the Sells Bros. Circus Company until the close of 1883; in 1884 he was with the Adam Forepaugh Show, and again with the Sells Bros. from 1885 until November 21, 1896, when he became allied with the B.E. Wallace Show for the season of 1897, and in 1898 again returned to Sells Bros. January 13, 1874, Mr. Jordan married in Washington, Ind., Miss Mary Buckley, a native of the city, born November 13, 1843, a daughter of Patrick and Mary (Cody) Buckley, the result of this union being one child, John, who has been an employee of the Sells Bros. Circus Company since 1894. The family are members of St. Simon's church, of which Mrs. Jordan is a member of the altar society. Mr. Jordan has not been unfortunate in his nomadic life, as far as this world's goods are concerned, as he now owns five city residences and forty acres of land in Barr township.
I too would like a copy of the Jordan family history. My family came the same route only they decided to remain in Washington County Alabama. Thanks Verne
Charlotte, I would be interested in a copy of that history as well. My Jordans came from the Carolinas through GA and AL to Arkansas where they spread out into Northern Louisiana. Please let me know if you get a response from your inquiry. My mother went to AR (where she was born), and filed a "delayed" birth certificate. She had to have someone who was old enough to know when she was born. Well, I looked at it and it had this "Aunt" signed on there. I said, Mama that is Daddy's Aunt, and she said, Well! I don't have any old aunts! :) Carleen

You are right about service records. I entered the Air Force in 1960 and was required to go back and get a copy of my birth record (Indiana). I only had a hospital certificate, which was not good enough. The people making the copy at the health dept. spelled my middle name wrong and it had to stay that way until I got a corrected copy many years later. They admitted to the mistake. My mother could not enter social security until she had a birth certificate. Her county records burned many years before, and she could not even produce school records - burned also. Fortunately, she had the family bible, and her brother was a witness for her. Bob Jordan
The problem with your grandmother's birth record may be settled by a census record, if she is listed in either the 1920 or 1930 census. That is an interesting fact about your great-uncles. My father only has a middle initial, too. This could be the reason! I will keep that in mind. In addition, her brother's were not given middle names until they entered the armed services and were required by the government to have at least a middle initial. The siblings gave themselves their middle names. Renee Thrift Hickman Houston, Texas

There are still many questions concerning DNA testing - that is good. One question concerned a test that was already done for legal reasons. You may want to ask the people that are doing our testing on that one. http://www.familytreedna.com/index.html Bob
Can anyone show me proof that Zachariah, son of Dempsey & Sarah, was NOT the Zachariah who married Tabitha STOKES? I've seen info online in several places that indicates Zachariah, son of Dempsey, married Tabitha STOKES. Zach & Tabitha are my line and they settled in Bedford Co, TN, by 1820. Can anyone tell me where William & Zach (sons of Dempsey were in 1820 or after?). Thank you. Diane, One female in the line is one too many, unfortunately. That was my problem for the Shelton DNA test. A 3rd cousin was able to do the test because he has all males that he descends from and he is a Shelton. You need to find a Jordan cousin who connects to you, but comes from an all male line of Jordans. Tina -----Original Message----- From: Diane G. Hi Norman, I know a direct line male JORDAN descendant who already had a DNA test done for other (legal) questions & paternity reasons. Just out of curiosity, would this test have included the DNA "string info" necessary to document a JORDAN descendant... or would further testing be needed for genealogy? Thanks in advance for any info. Regards, Cheryl
Sorry, This Jordan DNA study has to Father to Son. It is a male only test. They do have tests for female lines but that will have to be another time.
