I am looking for descendants of River Jordan, born about 1795, probably Pitt Co. NC, and who lived in Bladen Co. NC mid 1800s. He was probable son of Benjamin Jordan - connected to the Arthur line. Any Jordans from this line would be a perfect check for the Arthur Jordan line of Surry Co. VA. Linda Toler's e-mail is no longer valid. Submitter:Linda Toler Subject:Arthur Jordan Message:From the info I have seen Arthur Jordan may have come to America around 1635. He was married to a "Miss Rawlings". Mentions 4 children George, Arthur, Fortune and Mary. George, who married Alice Myles and I think he married again, was a well known political figure in the VA colony. Fortune married John Flood, Mary married twice Arthur Bailey, and Christopher Foster. Arthur,my line, married Elizabeth Bevin 4-12-1654. They had several children and my line eventually left VA moved on to North Hampton Co. NC onto Bladen Co. NC. Where River Jordan had a plantation, and 3 sons in the civil war, one being my ggrandfather. His son Edward Jordan was my grandfather and the rest is history. As you will see on the following web page, we are continuing to receive new results from the participants in our Jordan Surname DNA Project: http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/JordanDNAProjectResults.html We are also getting more matches with prior results. We currently have three distinct Jordan Family Groups with three sets of results in each group and a fourth set of Ungrouped results. We would be happy to get observations or analysis from any of you on the list. I keep playing around with the color coding to show matches within groups and matches with the HG1 and HG2 Halpogroups. If any of you have a better scheme for showing the matches, please let me know on or offline. When I get time, I plan to do some network analysis for each family group. I have downloaded and installed Network 3.0. Now I have to figure out how to execute the application. One day I will find that I know more than I ever planned to know about this DNA stuff! I am looking for information on Martha Jordan (my great grandmother) born about 1863 in Wellington County, Ontario, Canada. Martha married Alexander Howes in 1885. she died in 1941. They had 5 children: Alonzo, James, Ephriam, Gilbert and Earl (my grandfather). I would like to find information on Martha's parents and where they come from - I was told probably Northern Ireland. There are a lot of us "Jerdans" participating in the Jordan Surname DNA Project and getting incredible results. With only 12 sets of results back so far, we have connected six participants into two groups of related families. My own family is participating, and we have found a match with two other families with long documented Jordan genealogy histories. We are now working together to find our common ancestors. We have a total of 23 Jordan males participating so far, so we have 11 more sets of results scheduled to come back soon. We expect several of those results to match results we have already received. A number of these families followed the same migration pattern that your Jordan ancestors traveled south from VA. Get one of your Jordan male relatives into the test project and take advantage of the opportunity to make a quantum leap in your genealogy research. The results to date are shown under the results button on the following page: http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/JordanDNAProjectResults.html The overall project information is available on the following webpage: http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/DNAindex.html To check the database of many of the southern Jordans in the project go to the following webpage and click on the GEDCOM Tree link: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/j/o/r/Larry-E-Jordan/ Larry Jordan Group Administrator Jordan Surname DNA Project
I am looking for information on James Jordan (Jerdin), born 1825 in NC, married to Caroline McRee, 1856, in Clark County, MS. I do not know James' parents names. The 1880 census from Clark County MS listing James' and Caroline's family has the parents of James being born in Virginia. James and Caroline had 7 sons and 1 daughter, all listed in the 1880 census except for Chandler who was either away from home or deceased by that date. The children's names are: James F. Jordan b.1859 Rufus Monroe Jordan b. 1865 Willis H. Jordan b. 1867 Joseph N. Jordan b.1869 George Eddie Jordan b.1872 Minnie F. Jordan b.1873 Ledger Jordan b. 1880 James Jordan is also named as the bondsman at the wedding of Daniel Barlow and Charlotte McRee in 1867, Pierce Springs MS. This information is found in the Branson Barlow genealogy. I hope someone else may be searching this line of Jordan's. (always pronounced Jer din). James was my gggrandfather on my grandmother's side through his son Rufus Monroe. Sharon Mills Ward
Anyone have Jordans from Alabama with a son, John or Wesley born around 1851 in Virginia??? Need any help you can give. This child was probably orphaned, as he was living with a Dean family in Fancy Gap, VA, according to the 1860 census. John Wesley had the following children: Isaac, Bessie, Minnie, James Frank, Grover Cleveland, and John Hugh...all born in Chapel Hill, MO. Thanks, Joyce

Yes, Bob, I believe you are right and I haven't done much digging on it yet, but I do appreciate the help you have given me in the past. I do want to connect to the correct ancestors (and new cousins!), so I appreciate being told if I have it wrong. This is why I'd like to see a cousin from the Elias lines to test for us. If I could, I would, but it doesn't quite work since I'm female! <grin> I don't know any males on the lines. I can prove my lines back to Elias. I just need more time to prove something for Elias to his parentage. There does seem to be evidence of his brothers and his father in IL. Whether it is the Thomas Jordan of Granville, I don't know. I will look through the archives again. My Elias had children named: William, Moses, Sarah, Elijah, Mary, Thomas, James, & Nancy. It seems rather interesting that he named a son Thomas and a daughter Mary. I know they are common names, but they are the names of the parents I have listed for him. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. If this were true, you would be connected to the Arthur Jordan line, but this is "false" genealogy - set up wrongly many years ago. Same goes for the Over Jordan connection to a man in IL. As you will see on the following webpage, we have accumulated some great results from our Jordan Surname DNA Project: http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/JordanDNAProjectResults.html Of particular interest is the Jordan Family Group JG1. We now have three sets of results in JG1. The results for J4274 is one mutation from the results of J4358 and J4768 (a 24 of 25 DNA marker match). This means that J4274 has a 99.9% probability of sharing a common ancestor with J4358 and J4768. The earliest documented ancestors of these test participants are as follows: J4274: William Enoch Jordan b 1803 in NC J4358: George Jordan b 1787 in VA J4768: Jonas Jordan b Abt. 1755 in Amelia Co., VA For a 24/25 match, there is a 50% probability that the most recent common ancestor (MRCA) lived 17.5 generations ago or less than 350 years ago (17.5 generations x 20 years per generation). That would make their most recent common ancestor a Jordan male who lived around 1650. Although this group (JG1) has not determined their MRCA, they have many indications that it may be the family of or descendants of Thomas Jordan b July 07, 1635 in Isle of Wight Co, VA. We would love to get one or more Jordan male descendants of this family to participate in the DNA project. We appear to have the beginnings of a star-shaped network, with J4274 as the center point (possessing the ancestral haplotype) and J4768 and J4358 the rays (descendants of different branches, each showing one mutation compared to the center). It is too soon to tell if this will hold up; we will follow the pattern as we accumulate more data. Doug Mumma's web site is well worth studying for star-shaped networks. Hi everyone! My homepage URL is listed at the end of this post. So far I am researching 2 Irish surnames. As far as I know, they are from Northern Ireland. I'm not sure exactly where in Northern Ireland. The first name...BAIRD. I have my gg grandparents as John and Margaret BAIRD. They were both born in Ireland about 1845. I find them living on Prime (Ellsworth) Street in the 1880 Philadelphia, PA. census. According to 1900 Phila., PA. census info, widow Margaret, who's maiden name I don't know, came to the USA in 1867. My BAIRD family tree is as follows...I'm still looking through census images to find spouses and cousins. 1 John Baird 1845 - Unknown + Margaret ? 1845 - Unknown ... 2 Thomas Baird 1871 - ... 2 Annie Baird 1872 - ... 2 Margaret Baird 1874 - ....... +Frederick Kircher 1875 - ........ 3 Mary Kircher 1900 - ........ 3 Margaret Kircher 1902 - ............ +Louis Moore ........ 3 Frederick Kircher 1904 - ........ 3 Anna Kircher 1906 - ............ +William Bowen ........ 3 John Kircher 1908 - ............ +Cassy Beatty ........ 3 Catherine Kircher 1910 - ............ +John / Jake Cusack ........ 3 Louis Robert Kircher 1913 - 1982 ............ +Ella Margaret Jordan 1919 - ... 2 Robert Baird 1877 - ... 2 Martha Baird 1878 - The 2nd family is JORDAN. The 1880 Philadelphia census is the only census I found so far on him and his wife Josephine. Thomas was born in Ireland about 1835 and his wife Josephine was born in PA. about 1857. Both of my gg grandparents had died before 1900 while 2 of their children were still pretty young. I find most of the children living with Josephine's mother Matie RICKERTON/RICHARDSON (writing is hard to understand) at 316 Oregon Avenue.
