Jaley Earnest (b. ca 1861) married George W. Jordan, 7 Aug. 1876 in Lauderdale Co., AL. Would love to correspond with anyone that has more info on this couple. Pat
I've completely redone my webpage on the descendants of Henry HAYWARD (1774-1808) and Jane McCULLOH (--1797), adding names and correcting information. Family names are HAYWARD/HAYWOOD, HARRIS, SHELDON, MORTON, FREEZE, SHOE, RANDALL, JORDAN, STOUDER, RATH, BRANDON, PHIPPS, CROOKE, etc. PLACES are Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ohio, Kansas, Washington State, and Manitoba. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has info on this line. Hi, Am looking for the parents and siblings names and marriage date of Martha (Amantha) JORDAN born possibly in Waterbury, Washington County, VT, on 29 September 1811. She married Bethuel MILLER probably before 1830. Children were: Samuel, Joseph, Elizabeth, William, etc. On her husband's census record she is recorded as Martha from Vermont. Thanks in advance for your help, Jan Jordan in Northern VT
I want to wish each and everyone of you a very merry christmas and a wonderful new year. may all the peace and blessing's fill the earth with love. hope
As you can see in the attached note, Gary Jordan says he will help pay for the test for a documented descendant of Thomas Jordan, Jr. b July 07, 1635 in Isle of Wight Co., VA. He married Margaret Brasseur March 23, 1658/59 in Nansemond Co., VA. I will also contribute to the cost of such a test. If you are a Jordan male and a descendant of Thomas Jordan, please contact Gary Jordan at <A HREF="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</A> or me to work out the details. Larry if you would advertise on the forum about needing to contact a proven descendant of the Thomas Jordan line, i would share in the expense of the test. surely there is one out there. i think if it were for free, maybe we could get someone. like you i do feel this is our ancestor. let me know what you think on this idea, open for suggestions. Gary Jordan.
Since all I can view when I visit the site is the eldest Jordan of a line, how can I be sure of which lines are being tested? As an example, I would like to see if any man has tested that descends from the Jordans who ended up in IL. They are my lines, but since I can only see the eldest Jordan of a line, I cannot tell if someone who connects to me has tested or not. As the admin for this group, can you tell me if any man from the IL Jordan's has tested? I know they must supply their lineage when they test. I am involved in a DNA study on another line which a male cousin tested for. I maintain the web site for the results for us. Anyway, I'd like to know if any male from the lines of Thomas and Mary Jordan of IL have tested. Their sons were: Joshua, William, Elias (my line), Thomas, Francis Marion, Joseph, Reuben, and James. Some of them went on to TX. Francis did as did Joseph and James. With 19 sets of results back, we have found 14 out of the 19 men fall into four family lines (proven related through DNA). The five who do not fall within one of these lines may find themselves in a new family group as new results come in. We get about one new participant per week. We are waiting for 16 sets of results from people who have been tested. It takes 4-5 weeks to get results back from the lab after you return the sample kit. The test is simple and painless -- like brushing your teeth. The Website for the project is: http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/DNAindex.html If you are trying to get beyond a brick wall in your genealogy research and you have a living Jordan male in that line, you can gain great benefits from joining the project. You could give the test to someone as a Christmas gift. Several people have done so this year. We still need documented descendants of the Thomas Jordan family of Virginia (Thomas the Quaker). If you know one, please have him get in touch with me. Have a great set of Holidays! I thought this would be of interest to all of you who, like me, claim descent from Thomas Jordan, b ca 1600, and first mentioned in "The Muster", at Jamestown in 1624, as "head of the Governor's Men at Pasbehaigh {James City}, a soldier in the Governor's Guard. " The following article was in our paper in October 2002. Makes one ask if we might be able to go and actually see something that may have belonged to, or was contemporary with, "Our Thomas"? Among the things listed in that inventory are the following: "Corne, 14 barrels; Fish 2000; Snaphannce Peeces. 8; Matchcocles, 2.*; Armour, 4; Jack-Coat**, 1; Coates of Male, 2; Steele Coat, 1; Corslett, 1 and 2 head peeces; Power, 10#; Shott, 60#. The article: from The Times, Shreveport, Louisiana, October 2002 DIG UNEARTHS ARMOR FROM JAMESTOWN James town, Va. Archaeologists found a large cache of early-17th century armor deep in a well in historic Jamestown, a hint as to the military readiness of the New World's first permanent English settlement. The pieces, found about 10 feet below the surface, include body armor and possibly breast plates, back plates and helmets. "Most archaeologists will go their whole lives and not find a single piece of armor, " archaeologist Eric Deetz said Thursday as each new piece emerged from the narrow, brick-lined shaft. Led by Bill Kelso, researchers for the Jamestown Rediscovery excavation project recovered the first piece of armor from the well about two weeks ago, when they were only 3 feet below the surface. The artifacts are believed to date no later than 1618, suggesting that the shaft could reach back to the colony's earliest and least understood era, beginning in 1607. Prior finds from that period have been mostly bits of clay and other nonmilitary items. ( From Wire Reports) from Carleen
I stand corrected on the 12 sons of Thomas (1634). I meant 12 children. Thanks. Pat - can you give us a little more information on the William (1727) Jordan you found? Bob
Bob, I keep seeing where some say Thomas and Margaret Jordan (the Quakers) had 10 sons, and two or three daughters. Now you say they had at least 12 sons. NOT SO! They had 10 sons, period. None of the old researchers ever had it any differently. Where did you find 12 sons? What are their names? Carleen
Did any of your Quaker Jordans lose a William Jordan born about 1727 son of another William, possibly married to a Sarah? I found him...
Thomas Jordan, born about 1634 in Nansemond Co. VA had at least 12 sons. We are looking for DNA test participants who believe they are related to this line. That would also include those who have listed Samuel Jordan as the grandfather of this Thomas, or another Thomas (born 1600) as the father. Of course the Samuel Jordan connection is not even loosely proven, but the connections to Thomas (some call him Thomas the Quaker) can be found. Please consider the test. See DNA info at address below. http://jordannctoal.homestead.com/DNAindex.html Bob Jordan [email protected]

I am looking for my Grgrgrandmother Ann Eliza Jordan born 1810 Va. Possibly Lunenberg as that's where she married in 1827. She married John C. Green. At some point they moved to Maury Co. TN. In 1850 census of Maury Co. they are living next to Labon Jordan and his wife Mary Ann.(she might have been Mary Ann Scott) Both also born Va. Labon was born abt 1789. My Grgrandmother Mary Ann Green married while living in the home of Labon and Mary Ann (Scott?). So I'm wondering if perhaps Ann Eliza could be Labon and Mary Ann's dtr.If anyone knows if Ann Eliza is their daughter I'd appreciate any information. Thanks. M.E. [email protected]

I will no longer be on AOL after Nov. 27th. Gone to Yahoo.com mansfield
Post Script to previous message: I did find Mary Jordan in the 1860 Census. Name was hard to read. So I do have that. In the 1850 her age was 65 and in 1860, it looks like age 80. Still would like additional info on the family. Thanks. Donna
I found a Will Abstract today, for West Finley WA Co. PA: JORDAN, William, W. Finley Twp. (Page 180) Dated 2/23/1835 Probated: 3/16/1835 Exec. William, son; Joseph Jordan Wit: John Chase; John Lorimer Bene: WIFE: Marey; SONS: John; William: DAU's: Eleanor; Heaster I would like additional information on this family and would appreciate input as to where to look next. The 1850 W.Finley WA Co. census shows the mother and sister, Eleanor living with son, John and his wife. They are not listed in the 1860 census. Do not know what happened to them. In 1870 John and his wife are living in Wapello County IA. His mother is not with him nor is his sister Eleanor. I cannot find John & his family after 1870, and no death record in Wapello county IA. (John was born abt. 1825). At my wits end. Any advice will be appreciated.
If you have VA connections, then it would be wise to go through the tax lists of the available counties. I found several more Jordans in my family by using the Greensville tax lists at the site mentioned below.
