Hello Miriam, I saw your message about John Wesley Jordan. I'm wondering if there could be some kind of connection with my Lovick Pierce Jordan? I see your John Wesley was born in S.C., and so was my Lovick Pierce Jordan, and I see you mention one of his daughters married a Freeman, and my Lovick Pierce Jordan's second wife was a Malinda Ann Freeman. Another thing, is my Lovick Pierce Jordan, had a son named, John Wesley, but he was born in 1827. I see your John Wesley was in Al., and so was my Lovick P., although not in the same county, Lovick P. , was in Chambers Co. Al. Were any of your Jordan's in Ga.? Seems as if there are several things that look interesting with your group and mine. Do you know where in S.C. yours were located? Hi, Where did your Jordan's come from in Northern Ireland? My Jordan's - John (born 1801) and Margaret Jordan (born 1799) came from somewhere in Armagh county with 3 of their children: James born 1823, William born 1827 and Hugh born 1830.Leason Jordan, a brother of John's also came with them. They came to Ontario, Canada sometime in the early 1830's. There could be a connection. Seeking parents of JOHN JORDAN born 6 Mar 1764 where I know not. He died 26 Jan 1850 Pike, Wyoming Co, NY, but buried in family lot in Friendship, Allegany Co., NY. He married 15 Sep 1785 probably in or near Goshen, Orange Co., NY Julia SWARTOUT born 18 Nov 1769 daughter of Jacobus SWARTOUT who before and during the Revolution lived in Sugar Loaf which is now in town of Chester, Orange Co., NY but then in town of Warwick, Orange Co., NY. Following children born to John and Julia: Michael 1786 in Orange Co; William 1788; Jesse 1790; James 1791; John 1792; Andrew; 1795; Betsey 1797; Isaiah; 1799; Sally (Patty) 1801; JACOB 1803; Julia Margaret 1805; Unnamed son 1807 at which time Julia probably died because she does not appear in 1810 census. John/Julia do not appear in the 1790 census of NYS in their own home with two sons nor have I found them in PA, NJ or any N.E. state. By 1800, JORDAN family residing in Cherry Valley, Otsego Co., NY. From there, Michael, William and Jesse settled in and died in Steuben Co. James and John settled town of Cuba, Allegany Co., NY; Isaiah, after living with his brother, Michael in Steuben Co., migrated on to Allegany Co and he and brothers Andrew and JACOB settled in town of Wirt of Allegany Co., NY. Betsey (Elizabeth) Jordan married Sebastion WELLER and lived in Canajoharie, Montgomery Co., NY. Sally married John DYGERT and lived in Montgomery Co, NY. Julia Margaret married Charles PHELPS, migrated to Pike, Wyoming Co. and it was at her home that JOHN died in 1850. In 1840, JOHN JORDAN is still residing at Cherry Valley but by 1848 has migrated to town of Wirt and because he died before 1850 census was taken, it has been family tradition that he lived with his son, JACOB, but his will probate states he died at home of his daughter in Wyoming Co. ANY help would be appreciate on these above mentioned families.... Ruth Jordan Thoden [email protected]

Heather I am wondering where my Fortune Jordan came from. She was married to Samuel Bass Jr. b abt 1750. They lived on the NC/Va border and owned land in Northampton Co NC and Greensville Co Va. Samuel Bass Jr's father Samuel Bass Sr was next door neighbor to an Arthur Jordan in NC. 1790 Northampton Co census has their names next to each other. I had assumed this was my Fortune Jordan's father. The Reavis family's Jesse(?) also married a Fortune Jordan daughter of Arthur. That Fortune was a generation older it seems than my Fortune. Does anyone know if my Fortune is a Jordan and who her parents were? My Sterling Bass b1771 their son had a son named Hartwell also b1793 Do you think my Samuel Sr and your James were brothers? Thomas S. Jordan, was born on 3 January, 1832 in Macon, Bibb county, GA (according to his obit). Both of his parents were born in GA (according to his later census). In 1847, he began apprenticeship as a printer in "the Advertiser" office (this is from his newspaper obit in Ashland, AL - I am assuming that this means the "Advertiser" newspaper in Montgomery, AL, but could possibly be in Forsyth, GA). I can not find him on the 1850 census. In 1852, he was foreman of the job office that printed the Code of Alabama (Brittan and DeWolf, State Printers, Montgomery, AL) On the 10th of October, 1859, at Wedowee, Alabama, Thomas married Mary Creel who was born in Carroll county, GA; she was the daughter of Jordan Creel and Mary (Polly) White, both of Carroll county. The 1860 Randolph Co., AL, census, Wedowee, Dwelling 17, has: T.G.W. Jourdan (28, male, printer, born in GA, married within the yr) Mary Jourdan (22, female, HW, born in GA, married within the yr) Cinthia Jourdan (38, female, HW, born in SC) Thomas G.W. Jordan married Cynthia Smith in Harris County, GA, July 14, 1853. Thomas S. Jordan and Mary Creel married in 1859. Apparently, the man listed in the 1850 Randolph county census is Thomas S., not Thomas G.W. Where was T.G.W., and what relationship is he to Thomas S.? On July 21, 1860, Thomas and Mary's first son, Joseph Wiley Jordan, was born in Randolph county, AL. This son later practiced medicine in Ashland, Clay county, Alabama until his death in 1951. He also was elected to serve in the state legislature in 1930s. In 1862, a second son, William Dotson Jordan, was born to Thomas and Mary. In 1864, a daughter, Mary, was born. Thomas was a courier for the C. S. A. between West Point, GA and Talladega, AL during the Civil War. I can not find him on a muster roll. After the war, he farmed for a while near Opelika, AL, then worked as a printer until starting his own newspaper, The Opelika Reformer. The 1870 census shows: Girard Beat No. 1, County of Russell, AL, Post Office Columbus, GA, 27th day of June 1870, J.B. Healy, Asst. Marshall 515--598 Jourden, Thomas 38 M W Farmer GA Mary 32 F W KH GA Joseph 10 M W GA William 8 M W GA Mary 6 F W AL Little Mary died at age 7. I do not know where she is buried. Thomas and Mary then adopted another little girl, Mary Dyson, b. 1876. Apparently they did not legally adopt her, since she kept the surname Dyson. Mary Dyson m. Robert L. Thurman in 1893 in Clay county, AL, at the home of T. G. W. Jordan. In 1876, Thomas moved from Opelika to Coosa county, AL, where he and his sons published The Coosa News. In 1878, he moved to Ashland, AL, in Clay county, where he began publishing another newspaper. The 1880 census for Ashland, Clay Co AL; Stamped page 69; 03 Jun 1880; Asst Marshall J F Cole; Dwelling #58; Family #58: JORDAN Thomas W M 48 married Printer GA GA GA Mary W F 42 wife married KH GA GA GA Joseph W. Very interested in where "William" came from as I have him as Thomas. Also, do you have confirmation on the surname of Mary? I know that others state she is a Letts, but I have yet to find anything to document that. I believe that if we could follow the land purchases and sales within the family, we could then prove or disprove connections.
