    1. Re: [JORDAN] Listowner Post - ROLL CALL!!
    2. I am looking for Joseph Henry Jordan born Dec. 1875. and died in Sylacauga, AL. Aug. 1942. He married Elizabeth Elvira Sarrat (not sure of spelling) She was daughter of Simon Peter Sarrat and Georgianne Fair. Do not have the dates. Joseph Henry's father was William Jasper Jordan. I do know that Joseph Henry at one time lived up near Gadsden, AL. and also in Milstead, Ga. Do not have any dates for this. This is some of Joseph Henry's children-----Sanford Newton, Joe, David or Geet, Viola who married Amon C. (BUD) Moore, Lennie who married Amos Lowe, Joseph Henry and Elvira are buried at Whites Chapel Baptist Church up near Gadsden, AL. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. My dad, Sanford died when I was only 6 and this is all the info I have on his family. Thanks, Ruth Jordan Deason

    2. Robert Jordan
    3. There may be a connection for Exum. There was a John Jordan (c.1712-1754). He was probable youngest son of George Jordan and Mary Browne. He originally lived on Lightwood swamp in southern Surry Co. near his father and then moved to Southampton Co. VA. John had a son William who administered his father's estate in 1754. It appears William married Mary Exum (from court records) by 1753. I have never found the children of this William Jordan, but it could be that this is a connection. If there are any living male members of this family, they would be good candidates for testing against my DNA (Arthur Jordan line from Surry Co. VA). 2. I'm sorry about the confusion. I do have THOMAS JORDAN as the husband of Mary LETTS and "all those 13 children." My husband is downline of Thomas' son, William, who married Sarah Fields. I do not have any documented proof of Mary Letts. Sadly, I do not even have a source listed as to where I got her name. Oh, dear, not a very efficient geneologist! It would be great to know who Thomas JORDAN's parents were. Do we go back to Arthur????. Let's keep in touch. Maybe this DNA thing will prove something. None of my Jordan "boys" have had it done, but we can't go back further that Thomas. Later, mary

    3. Stopping at Thomas should not preclude your Jordan boys from testing. If a match comes up, then we know where we DO connect and can aim our search in that direction. Maybe it will even point us to Arthur after all! All of my contacts on the Jordan line do not descend from an all male line, so none of us can test. If you know someone on our lines who can test, please convince them! We need someone on a proven line back to Thomas Jordan and Mary (Letts?) who will do this for us. It benefits everyone. 3. Searching for information on my great grandfather Thomas Albert Jordan, b. 30 Nov 1835, probably in Lauderdale, Tennessee. Married Elizabeth Blackwell Gause. He died in Garvin County, OK 3 October, 1911 and is buried in Green Hill Cemetery, Davis, OK. His parents were William Jordan and Mary Bell, both of whom died in Obion County, TN. Family tales say Thomas was one of a large family of children, maybe 17, ten of them girls. Thomas and Elizabeth had a daughter, Mary Truma b. 24 October 1870 in Dyersburg, TN. Elizabeth died when Mary Truma was a baby. Thomas remarried and had a daughter Emma by the second wife. I will appreciate any information or leads someone may have. 3. 1880 United States Census (Census Place: Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) 1880 Household Record: John M. Jones (b. 1820 in PA), Wheelwright & Step-father of William Gray Russell, son of William Russell, Sr., b. PA, (deceased by 1851) & Anna "MARIA" JORDAN Russell Jones/ "Maria Jones" on 1880 Census, age 47/ b. 1832/1833 in PA to parents born in GA. NOTE: The Jones family and Wm G Russell were all living at 217 Greenwich Street, Philadelphia in 1864 when WGR was attending the City High School, according to the school's archived records. ANNA MARIA JORDAN RUSSELL'S FIRST CHILD BY HER FIRST HUSBAND at age 17/18: William was married to Sarah Branch Jennings at the time of this 1880 census, because their son, William "Willie" Russell was born in 1880. This was his second marriage and they had three more children before she died. I am puzzled why he is not on the census with his wife, unless she needed special care and had to stay with her family until the baby was born so he could continue to work. William Gray Russell was also widowed after his first child, Mabel Russell was born 1878-1879 to he and his first wife (name unknown). William Gray Russell (age 29, b. Oct 1850 in PA) was a Clerk on 1880 Census and so was his half-brother, George Jones (age 27, b. 1852 in PA). George Jones was probably born to widow Anna Maria Jordan Russell and her second husband, John M. Jones, when she was 19/20, but there is the less likely chance that George Jones was John M. Jones' son by his first marriage -- I didn't know my g-grandfather had a half-brother until this 1880 census went "on-line". I know nothing more, except for a rumor that ANNA MARIA JORDAN was of American Indian descent, so if you know of a daughter born to a JORDAN family in GEORGIA in 1832/1833 named "Anna Maria" or just "Maria", since she went by her middle name only in 1880, please let me know!
