For roll-call, I am searching for the parents and lineage of Charles Jordan, b abt 1785 perhaps in NC, lived in GA then moved to Talladega Co. AL before 1840, where he died 1845. This Charles Jordan is mentioned four times in the Meriwether Co., GA, deeds 1834-1838, where he owned two tracts. The deed of 1834 identifies him as of Fayette County GA; of 1836 of Henry County GA; of 1838 of Henry Co., GA, and abt 1840 of Talladega Co. AL. I believe that one of these tracts was inherited from his possible father, Charles Jordan of Meriwether Co. GA who m Amy Wadsworth. I am trying to get full property descriptions to make the connection. In 1830 my Charles is in Henry Co. census next door to his son William Riley Jordan and son-in-law George Fletcher Shepard. These Shepards are of Abbeville SC & Elbert Co. GA and there are quite a few Jordans there that I feel must be related to Charles but cannot tie together. If you have any info that I do not have, I would love to be able to break down some brick walls! My major brick wall on my Jordan line, is who are the parents of Joshua Jordan born 1755. Of course, I have heard the 'rumors' and unverified reports, and there are more than one sets of parents out there listed. Of course, he only has ONE set of parents.. and I need to find out and verify, which parnents are really his! :-) Any help would be greatly appriciated! Thanks much in advance! Thanks...this evidently is my dilemna too! ANd I am not even sure which of this Joshua Jordan's sons is the father of my Joshua Jordan b 1818, although it is seems likely to me that it is Samuel. Because I was a beginning genealogist when I did my research, I am having trouble coming up with my sources and I intend to re-research it. Your email was very helpful! Well, this sure ties into my ancestry somewhere, but I have yet to verify it all either, and am not now actively working on it. My information comes from a cousin who got it from a researcher so it is would at least be a starting point for me. I can research this back to Brown county Ohio with some certainty, but I am not sure if we are decended from Joshua Jordan b. 1755 though son John or Samuel. I lean towards Samuel because of an 1884 source that would have been closer to the fact than any other I have to research. This roll call may have sprurred me on to begin working on this again! I will keep your address and keep any further info posted to the list. Hope you will do the same. I can only say that in my family there is at least one Joshua ancestor that is also found as Josiah. I did not do this research myself, so I cannot prove this. I started to do an internet search on this, but I am short of time this morning. Hugs,. Joshua and Jemima Jordan moved from Brown COunty Ohio to Wayne COunty, Illinois in 1852 or there abouts and my Pittmans moved to Wayne County, Illinois from Robertson County, Tennessee during the civil war. Some of them were fighting for the north, and the neighbors burnt them out(according to my father, Paul C. Pittman). _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 with e-mail virus protection service: 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/virus
I didn't personally research the earlier ancestors in my tree, so I can't answer this for sure, but I suspect that this was a common migration pattern for the time period as people looked for new and better land. It would be interesting to know if our ancestors were related or had contact with each other though. It reminds me of how 3 of my children moved one by one to the west coast from Kansas or several of my Dad;s siblings and my brother moved to Florida one at a time, but obviously influenced by each other. Jane, Let me look in the old records I have, I may find something to help, or further confuse you. I happen to be on the edge of the debris field of the terrible tragedy of this AM. We did not see anything, but many people we know live in those areas of East Texas. I live in Louisiana and some fell near here even. I am heartsick for their families. Carleen
<PRE>Looking for "anyone" that has a connection to the above John Jordan. He married 1. Sarah Chalker. Had son Higate bn. Mar. 1820 in England. 2. wife Eleanor Danford 3. Hannah Croft. Hannah had several more children with John. In Canada ca. 1838 and lived in Newport, Canada, (Sawyerville area). Son Higate moved to Warner, NH where he married a Bean. [email protected]
Those names should NOT be interchangable. I have never seen it, anyway, in many yrs of research. Carleen

Hi, I'm looking for James Jordan. He was in Allens, Ala. on the 1880 cenus and was 30 years old and born in Ga. I Am looking for the place in Ga where he was born and his father and mother. Caroline was born in Ga. I don't know what Caroline's maiden name is. Their first son Thomas was born in Ga and second son Mack was born in Ala. James and Caroline are my ggrandparents and son Mack is the grandfather. Would love to hear if anyone know of the family. Marcie Kretzer
William Jordan was born in SC on 8 Aug 1798 and died in Clay County, AL, on 4 Dec 1884. He was a veteran of the SC Militia, enlisting at Edgefield Courthouse near the end of the War of 1812, and lived in Pendleton and Pickens Districts in SC and Randolph and Clay counties in AL after his discharge in 1815. William was married to Elizabeth Davis (1795-1858) in SC and had the following children: Andrew Jackson Jordan (1830-1901), William David Jordan (1832-1910), Sarah Garrett. Jordan Rasco (1836-1929), Jane Jordan (1839-?), Margaret Jordan (1841-?), Charles Jordan (1841-?), Newton Jasper Jordan (1842-1863) and Priscilla Antoinette Jordan Rasco (1845-1918). Andrew J. and William D. Jordan were born in SC; the others were born in Randolph County, AL. William was also married to Nancy C. Green (a widow, 1830-1896) and had the following children: John C. B. Jordan (my g-gfather, 1861-1941); Lizzie Jordan Allen (1862-1881); Annie Jordan Burks (1865-1933); Frances Ida Jordan Yarbrough (1867-?); Alice Ada Jordan Morris (1869-1947); and Willis Joe Jordan (1871-1943). All the children were born in what is now Clay County, AL. Family stories tell that William had three older brothers, all veterans of the War of 1812, and none of them settled in Alabama, moving instead to Tennessee, Arkansas and Texas (didn't everybody have those same three brothers?). Based on land and census records, William's mother may have been named Mary and was most likely a widow by 1820. Hello - Does anyone have info on Absolem Jordan born 1799 in Bedford Co., VA? He married Ann Burchett 27 April 1821 in Lawrence Co., KY and died between 1845 and 1850 in Carter Co., KY. Their son William Jordan is my ggg grandfather. William married Julia (Julianne) Gilliam and died in Jackson Co., WVA circa 1910. Thanks. Rick Stewart
Dear list, Are Joshua and Josiah interchangeable or are they two different names? What about Hosea? Josea? The reason for my interest is that I am STUCK in 1790 NC. But, my gr gr grandpa had a son named Jonathon Josiah b. ca 1832. This was his firstborn son and we have wondered if it was a grandfather's name. Or perhaps an uncle's namesake? Am still trying to connect with either NC or VA Jordan's and feel this might be a clue. La Nita Jordan Wacker Shoreline, WA
Rick and list, I can't answer your very specific question, but can tell you the family you should be looking at -- Absalom who d. in Bedford 1826 -- or possibly his brothers Benjamin and Jonas. Osborne Warner 1804 John If none of those work out, and looks like your Absalom's birth is a little early for most of these, then Absalom's brother Benjamin was on Bedford Co. 1793 tax / tithe list. I never followed his line, and that's the last date I show for him in Bedford Co. Another probable brother is Jonas (Jr) who was in Bedford early 1790s too.
