Can someone tell me where Jordan's Grove Begger's Bush is in Virginia? That sounds interesting. Connie Grund
too was a Jurdan when I went to visit my grandparents on their farm at Bethel in Perquimans County and at the home farm in Winfall where my grandfather was born and burried. In fact it is a strong memory because my grandfather Married a much younger woman ( my Grandma Margaret who always had a wonderful chocolate cake when we went to visit ) after my father's mother passed away and she always called him Mr. Jurdan. The other grandparents at Edenton in Chowan County called us Jordan as did the rest of my world. Katherine

Dear Kathy, Saw your email and was wondering... I am at a dead end with my Jordan ( Wiley Henry Jordan ) who married a Lucinda Bond ( from Franklin Co., GA ). I was wondering if my Wiley Henry could be related to your Gray Jordan. My Wiley Henry Jordan died about 1855 in Palmeto, Fulton, Georgia New Hope Cemetery. Don't have any information about my Jordan's parents or siblings.... Hi Natha, Your Cornelius in the 1960 Tallapoosa Co AL census married Sally Baker Sept. 6, 1828 in Morgan Co., AL. He apparently was in Tallapoosa /co. by 1843 as he was involved with several others in purchasing Gold Mine property but I havent found him in the 1850 census. In 1870 he was in Shelby Co, Beat 15, Hillsboro PO page 535. He was born about 1808 and we believe that he is the oldest child of Charles Benjamin Jordan who shortly after 1850 also moved to Alabama. Email me if you want to discuss this further. John
I am going to forward you a link where you can get it from Samuel on down. You and I come off of the same man, Cornelus, Sr who was a son of Joshua b 1681 and died in the 1700's Joshua had several children, but left Cornelus, Sr. out of his will. They had migrated from Virginia to Edgecombe Co., NC and my Joshua, son of Cornelius Sr. and Mary Daniels was born in Glainville Co. NC and moved to So. Carolina about 1790--remained in SC until about 1834 or 1835, when they moved to Pike County, AL. They had a dau that was age 16 in the 1850 Pike County Cenus records. You are welcome for this information, there is over 400 pages of it, so you may only want to print out the pages that you want. There was always a joke about the say you say Jordan in our area of South Carolina. If you lived in town, you were a Jordan, and if you lived in the country, you were Jerdins. Those in the country said if you lived on a dirt road you were Jerdins. But they were Jordans if they lived on paved road. We are definitely Jor-dans. Call us Jerdin when I was a child, you would get told. LOL It has been Jordan since the beginning of my research which is around 1600's in the area I live in now. I knew Theo Dalton personally, as he was born in Pike Co., AL in the Henderson community 8/21/1910 and died about 2 or 3 years ago. He was Dr. William Theophilus Dalton. The 3rd son of William Theophilus Dalton, Sr. born in Pike County near the Hopewell Baptist Church. Theo like to teach school and began teaching at age 17. My own mother, Cleone Williamson, went to High School at the same time, Theo Dalton was going to Troy State Normal. He graduated from Troy State Normal School, Troy State University, University of AL Duke University and George Peabody College now part of Vanderbilt University, where he rec'd his PhD in Education. He married Sue Glynn Sanders of Goshen (she is now deceased also- died about a year ago) He taught in nearly every school in Pike County at at Troy State University. He was a member of many different clubs. My mother knew him well-- Theo and his wife Sue attended my parents 50th and 60th wedding Anniv. Thanks, Bob and Sheri, I began with Bible Records, Deeds, Tombstone records, and information from family members who knew the older members of the family that I didn't get a chance to know. I have stacks of files with notes, Court Records, Deed Records, Census Records, and I usually verify most of the information that I have. I have never put anything on the internet that was not backed up by several sources. As for this thing with Samuel Jordan, I have read several books and checked church records; but for those that are born in the 1500s and 1600s, I have also checked them on the internet thru census records, Church records etc. I am 74 years old. and have been doing research for about 20 years or longer. We can almost do ourselves in by running from one speculation to another. What needs to be done first is to gather all records possible in your "sure" area. That means deed records, court records, tax records (if any), church records, etc. Sometimes deed records can help if they specify where the parties live. I proved my line of Jordans by finding a 1780 deed which was adjacent to my Jordan's land, which stated one of the boundaries as " the heirs of ----." The local LDS will rent you microfilm of these areas and their records. You know your ancestor was in Rockingham NC? According to that census record, he was married about 1805 -- 2 children under age 10, and born 26-30 years before 1810. Start with deed and tax records.
