    1. [JONSSON] PETERSON - ANDERSON - JONSSON Family Photographs Letters and Documents
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" a large group of items belonging to the family of Peter & Hilda PETERSON and their extended family including the following items: 1 - large velvet covered photograph album including 64 photographs and other items 2 - 57 letters, cards, announcements, and postcards to and from Hilda Maria ANDERSON PETERSON and family and friends dating back into the 1880's 3 - 27 loose photographs taken at studios in Seattle, WA; Spokane, WA; and Bellingham, WA of family members The couple had a daughter Olga M. PETERSON born in the 1890's. Family names throughout include PETERSON, ANDERSON, REESE, OLSSON, LINDEN, NEWMAN, MACKINNON, BARNES, SLATTERY, SMITH, HANSON, BOMAN, OLSON, PAULSEN, SKOUG, THEBERATH, DAWSON, JOHNSON, and HEDLUND Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this family: Peter PETERSON was b. 1853 and married Hilda M. JOHNSON (1862-1924) they had two sons, Hjalmer PETERSON (died 1969) and Victor Carl PETERSON (1893-1980). Peter died in 1921 and is buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Seattle, WA. Hilda Maria JOHNSON PETERSON was b. 5 Dec 1861 in Ransater, Varmland, Sweden to parents Anders JONSSON (1831-1919) and Maria Kajsa NILSDOTTER (1837-1918). Hilda was one of 11 children born to this couple including, Betty ANDERSON OLSON (1858-1940); John ANDERSON (1859-1933); Hilda Maria; Anna ANDERSON SKOOG (1864-1925); Carolina ANDERSON HOLMBERG (1866-1946); Olof August ANDERSON (1868-1917); Emma KRISTINA ANDERSDOTTER (1871-1880); Otto ANDERSSON (1873-1880); Anton Nathanael JONSSON (1875-1880); Nils Viktor ANDERSSON (b, 1879); and Emma Elvina ANDERSDOTTER OLSSON (1883-1924). The usual Swedish naming conventions are the reason that Hilda was sometimes addressed as Hilda ANDERSON (meaning her father was Anders) and sometimes with JOHNSON which was the modification of her father's surname. Hilda died November 1924 and is buried in the same cemetery in Seattle along with her husband. Their son Hjalmer Ludwig PETERSON was b. 23 Oct 1899 in Enumclaw, WA. Hjalmar was one of 4 children born to this couple including, Olga Marie; Victor Carl; Edith; and Hjalmar Ludwig PETERSON, all born between 1891 and 1899. Hjalmar married Lula Belle GOSS (1899-1973) and he died 5 Feb 1969 in Bellingham, WA. Census records provide the following details regarding this family: 1910 census of Wabash, WA: Pete PETERSON, age 42, married 23 years, born Sweden, parents born Sweden, to USA 1880, a Farmer Hilda PETERSON, wife, age 49, married 23 years, 4 children/4 living, born Sweden, parents born Sweden, to USA 1885 Olga PETERSON, dau, age 19, born WA Victor PETERSON, son, age 17, born WA, a Saw Mill Laborer Edith PETERSON, dau, age 14, born WA Hjalmer PETERSON, son, age 10, born WA 1920 census of Muckleshoot, WA: Peter PETERSON, age 51, to USA 1880, born Sweden, parents born Sweden, a Farmer Hilda M. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [JONSSON] Gustaf Jonsson family of Jonkoping
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: kathleenhilliard Surnames: Jonsson, Malmsten, Forsberg, Lidstrom, Johanson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jonsson/216/mb.ashx Message Board Post: In doing research on my Swedish line, have found a photo of relatives of Gustaf/Gustav Jonsson, possibly of Jonkoping, Sweden. The print is dated Feb 1959. I would like to locate some living relatives and make connections with my family. (Note: I tried to attach the photo, but guess that doesn't work.) My great-grandmother Carolina Jonsson Malmsten (1865-1934) was the daughter of Jonas Bengtson (1816-1877) and his wife Katrina Andersdotter (1822-1872), who died in Forserum, Jonkoping. Their known children were Sven August, Maria Helena, Anders Wilhelm, Johanna C, Anna Louisa, Augusta, and Carolina/Caroline, b from 1849-1865. Of the male family members, Anders Wilhelm emigrated to the US, and Sven August may have changed his last name to Forsberg, so Gustaf Jonsson's family may be more distantly connected to Carolina Jonsson Malmsten. If anyone recognizes a family member, I would love to get in touch, as my deceased great-uncle had done, but now those connections are lost. Here are the names in the photo: Olof Lidstrom, Ebba Jonsson Lidstrom, Ingegerd Jonsson Johanson, Margit Jonsson, Gustav Forsberg, Elsa Marie Johanson, Hannah Jonsson, Gunnar Jonsson, Gunilla Lidstrom, Gunnar Jonsson, Simon Jonsson, Irene Olsson, Elsa Jonsson, Gunnar Johanson, Evalina Johanson, Rune Jonsson, Gertrude Malmsten (my great-aunt), and Gustav Jonsson. I did find possible connections of Gustaf Elof Sigfrid Jonsson (b 9 Jul 1897), his wife Hanna Kristina Elin (8 Oct 1900) and their daughter Ebba Gunhild Kerstin Jonsson (b 18 Jul 1928 in Forserum), but haven't gotten any further on searching this family. Thanks for any help you can give on the Jonssons, and I will gladly share what information I have. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am interested in Esther's and Helge's further destiny in the US, and their ancestors there. You mentioned a photo album, do you think that I might see some of the pictures? You can contact me by email if you want to discuss this further. First I'd like to do some corrections. Esther Stenman and Elin were not sisters, they where cousins (Esther's father Nils Olof and Elin's father Karl Ludvig were brothers and their parents were Nils Olof Stenman and Brita Greta Johansdotter). Esther's fathers name was Nils Olof Stenman and the correct dob is 22 Nov 1861 Some of the names are misspelled. Dead Jan. 01 1992 in Landskrona. Ruth's story: Her mother Emma Helena Sjögren was engaged to get married with Per Jönsson. When their daughter was born Emma moved in with her mother to have some help with the baby while Per was working hard to earn money for their migration to U.S.A. In 1909 they were to leave Sweden together, as a family. However, Emmas mother persuaded her to stay in Sweden, she said the journey was to dangerous to endure with a little child and they would be better off staying with Emmas family. Then it was decided that Per should go alone and build a home for them and then he was to send for Emma and Ruth. Per tried many times to get his family home without any luck. In 1911 Emma married Carl Olsson and they had 8 children between 1911 and 1926. When Ruth was 6 years old Per sent her a beautiful doll for her birthday and a card. Her stepfather broke and throwed away the doll and ripped the card into pieces with the words "I am her father - her only father". That was the last contact with Per and Emma and Ruth. //Jane Alexandersson great granddaughter of Ruth (= my mothers maternal grandmother). Author: davemartinson1 Surnames: Martinsson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jonsson/203.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello. This is rather a longshot. I chanced upon your Ancestry.co.uk tree that contains a Carl Gustaf Martinsson. I imagine this may not be an uncommon name in Sweden, but my great grandfather had an identical name. There is a reasonable chance that he was Swedish, as his two sons who had been taken into care before 1911 are listed in the 1911 census as being from ?Sweden? I have not tracked down any marriage but Carl Gustaf is supposed to have married my great grandmother born Hilda Minnie Webber who was originally from Devon, England. Hilda was born in 1871. The family lived in Cardiff, Wales in the 1890's, and their 3 children were born in 1893, 1895 and 1896. Their unusual names were Dolores Neugean Mercy Martinsson, Elexza Wake Martinsson and Carl William Maxwell Martinsson, my grandfather. Carl Gustaf, who was a "Ship's Carpenter Merchant Service", is supposed to have died at sea of yellow fever (this is a family story that may not be true), and widow Hilda remarried o! n 24/12/1898. If any of this 'rings any bells, with you, or you can offer me any advice, please please let me know. I would be delighted to hear from you. Kind Regards, David Maxwell Martinson......the second 's' was dropped back in the early 1900's. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: bertil_persson Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jonsson/205/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Per Jonsson born 1872, stone mason, left Sweden, went by boat April 1903 from Liverpool, arrived April 9 1903 in New York (transfer) and had a ticket for Halifax, Ca. I cannot find him in any passenger list os arrivals in Halifax. He had the intention to go to Sidney, Nova Scotia where he had a friend Andrew Johansson. It is said that he died in an accident 1906. But neither his arrival 1903 to Canada nor his dead can be confirmed. Can anyone help me? Send an e-mail to bertil.persson@mbox346.swipnet.se. Wonderful information Going through my my great grandmother (Esther's) things that have been in the basement the last 20 years, I found a folder that had a lot of family portraits and some genealogy (in Swedish). If you would like to add it to your family tree I can scan and email it to you. There are also a few pictures of unidentified family members. Do you happen to have any Jonsson photos that you know of that I may be able to compare them to? I know that might be a stretch, but I figured I'd ask. Thanks so much!!! He moved to Nederkalix in 1885. Gustaf Jonsson b. 28 Jan 1858 is my great-greatgrandfather's cousin. As far as I know, almost everyone on Gustaf's father's side was born in Markaryd. Some have moved to other places later in life, but we still have many relatives in Markaryd. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
