James Monroe Jones was born in Madison County, MO 1841. James died January 31, 1870 in Madison County, MO. Family history states that after surviving the Civil War, James was riding a railroad pushcart when the handles knocked a gun out of his pocket. The gun landed on the floor of the pushcart, fired and killed James. His body was interred in Fredericktown, Madison County, MO, First Town Cemetery. He married Sarah H. "Sally" Pruett in Madison County, MO, June 29, 1862. Sally was born in Madison County, MO 1838. She was the daughter of Crawford Pruitt and Margaret "Peggy" Johnson. She married Needham Frizzell in Madison County, MO, February 5, 1857. She married John Ray January 1870. Sally died June 4, 1916. James was listed in a muster roll. James M. Jones, Company A, 6th Missouri Calvary. Inducted as a Private, Discharged as a Sergeant. Fought for the Union Army. He was inducted into the military February 29, 1864. He was released from active duty in New Orleans, LA, September 12, 1865. James Monroe Jones and Sarah H. "Sally" Pruett had the following child: 1. Mariah Jane Jones was born October 15, 1863.
