I think the real story is that at one time everyone was named JONES...Some of them started stealing horses and had to change their names....

My grandfather David Madison Jones b 1857 was killed while on horse back. This was in Amory, Ms But I don't think he or his Dad Richard C Jones jr b 1821 in Tn or his dad Richard C Jones Sr b 1767 NC ever stole a horse. The union soldiers stole one of R C Jones Jr's prize mares, or they borrowed it, at any rate the tax payers paid for the horse and other items they took also. I have a copy of the claim and settelment. Richard Jr received from the government the amount of $ 299.99 in settelment in 1872. I am a Jones and proud to be one. Hello Joneses, searching for info on Adam Jones & Eve Jones......No seriously(just kidding). Actually my gparents names are James Albert Jones & Rena Lott. I know they lived in Marion Co. Foxworth, Ms.(from my father's b'cert.) They are also on 1920 census in Carroll Co.,Ms. There are alot of James Jones's listed out there, someone has to know of mine. Here's a story..........My ggrandfather was in prison (probably stole a horse),escaped and changed his name from "Potee" to Jones. Does anyone have some tips on finding actual Prison Register's or Index's? HELP!
