    1. Re: [Jones] The Early Jones' in America

    3. Years ago when I was trying to locate information on my great grandfather, I ran across a Leander Jones who was a Mayflower descendent. He fought in the Revolutionary War. Now I don't know when they came over. The descendents, if any of Christopher Jones who came over on the Mayflower are unknown, but given how few white people there were, the later ones ended up intermarrying with the earliest ones. You might try and look at the passenger lists of the early ships that came here in the 1600's. 1. [Jones] Christopher Jones: Master of the Mayflower

    3. Here's a link to a page about Christopher Jones of the Mayflower. Actually he was the master and part-owner of the boat. However, it appears that he did not stay in the 'colonies' but returned to Europe and died in England in 1622. So it seems like the Leander Jones who was a Mayflower descendant wasn't a descendant of Christopher Jones. http://www.plimoth.org/Library/mayflcre.htm I don't see any other Joneses on passenger list. 3. When I was studying early American history there were questions raised about wether or not he left. The Mayflower site states that no one knows if he left descendents behind or not. There are Joneses who are Mayflower descendents but not through the paternal side. Also, there were other ships that arrived her soon after the Mayflower. One came in 1621 with new immigrants. They would have had to inter married with Mayflower people. In breeding was a serious problem in the 1st century of America. No doubt at one point most of the people living here would have been Mayflower descendents even though half their ancestors came later.
