Hello listers, Goodness, I WISH we all had found ALL our Joneses!!! I, for one, am still trying to find info on my grandfather's brother, Steve Jones, actual given name William Edward Steven Jones, born in Laurel County, KY, in May 1879. Son of James Franklin and Margaret (Pigg) Jones, he was the fourth born of nine children plus one stillborn. I have traced all siblings except Steve. His granddaughter thought he died in 1911 in the Hamilton County, Ohio, area. Now we aren't so sure since we haven't located any info on him. It's possible he died in KY, but we have found nothing there either. Haven't even found him on the 1910 census. On the 1900 he is with his parents in Laurel County, but he married in 1901 to Lucinda Scarborough who gave birth to two boys, James and George Jones. Lucinda died in 1908 and is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Rockcastle County, KY. Several of the Jones family drifted north to Hamilton and Clermont counties, others married and scattered in several dir! ections, most to eventually regroup in the Hamilton County area. If any of this rings a bell for anybody, please give me a holler. This is a big brick wall for me, and with the name Jones, it's a gigantic wall. I need help! Thanks much, Carol in Ocala, FL
Good evening list, Everyone is shaking their Jones tree today, so here is mine in part. I am searching for the parents & siblings, if any for : OLIVER PERRY JONES b: 14 may 1840 in Pike Co, Indiana. (1880 census has Oliver born in Virginia = enumerator error) I have a copy of OLIVER'S military papers that show: (He called the civil war the "WAR OF THE REBELLION") :>)) 22 July 1862 mustered as a private in Company "A"100th Regiment Illinois Volunteers. 08 Aug 1864 transferred as Corporal to Company "K" 1st U.S. Engineer Corps. 30 June 1865 Honorable discharge at Nashville ,TN. 23 Aug 1866 in Naperville, Du Page County, Ill (directly west of Chicago) Married Catherine Elizabeth Hood b: Nov 1848 Saratoga, N.Y.("Katie" he called her) 1880 census for Crystal, Tama County, Iowa lists Oliver, his wife Catherine , and five children, one of them being my grandfather: Joseph Harrison Jones. (Oliver's father born Virginia, mother born S. Carolina) (Catherine's father & mother both born in NY) (children all born in Iowa) .......Indiana, Illinois, Iowa...he is slowly edging west. Family story has him coming to California in 1887 on a real estate promotional train ( I suppose he was with his wife and children) Oliver's children were born : CARRIE R JONES 04 JULY 1868 ROBERT F JONES 01 NOV 1869 MAMIE M. JONES 07 OCT 1872 JOSEPH HARRISON 16 DEC 1875 ? ETTIE JONES JULY 1878( died at 13 yrs?about 1891) 1900 census for Kern county, CA (Dist #5 Enum dist #33 pg. 6) lists Oliver, his wife Catherine and only Joseph. (JOSEPH HARRISON JONES married my grandmother LOURENA ALICE WILKINSON in Maricopa, Kern County, CA 1904) Oliver was a physician, (assisted in my grandfather Joseph's children's birthing). Oliver was horticulturist/nurseryman, real estate investor in Santa Ana, California. He played the violin well. Oliver received his service disability pension from 19 May 1910 through to his death 12 Aug 1912. Oliver was buried Fairhaven Cemetery, Santa Ana, Orange County, CA. Well that was more than I thought I had, but now, I would like to tie this family ancestors and descendants together. Related descendant surnames: ATSATT,SMITH, JONES, DIMICK, NOBLE, EISLAND Any information or suggestions are welcome. Margaret (mema)
I will be spending a good deal of time in Cin/Ky in the upcoming wknds. I am beginning with my library visits this wknd. Our son just moved and his dad will do some renovations on the 1900 home. This means I get bus rides into the city (okay a 10 min ride) I know that I will be gathering an obit and some info on my husband's GRIFFITHS line. If you ck the Cinch site and can find articles you need shout. I can make copies for you as well as mine. I will have time I am hoping. I tried the past few wknds to get across bk here to OH to look, but they needed me to help with physical labor. I strongly am opposed to that, but did it anyway. I am also the one that gets to handle all the critters. I am the one they listen to. If you don't have time to ck the cinch site before I read my final mail tomorrow I will do a quick ck. And copy anything I find. I don't have time for cemetery runs this trip. I do want to get bk to Spring Grove as soon as possible for some more photos. I will shout and take requests at that time. Oh how I missed my FL retreat this yr. The worst winter in the past 5 yrs here in OH and I was home for it. Hear we are to get rid of all our snow this wknd. I am hoping. I would like to know there is still earth under that white stuff that has been in my yard for several wks now. My two JONES so far are Elizabeth (nee JONES) GRIFFITHS b. 1805 Wales (believed Ruabon Den) to Pitt PA>Madison Twp Jackson Co OH This line is buried Moriah Cemetery near Oak Hill Jackson Co OH and the Benglog JONES from Llanddeiniol Dyfed WALES to Gallia Co OH and points across the US after that. I have info on both lines. ~pat(entwistle/gethen/hershberger) griffiths/jones~ > -----Original Message----- > From: Carol or Cliff Jones [mailto:Jonesy6iron@earthlink.net] > Sent: Thursday, March 06, 2003 8:40 PM > To: JONES-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [Jones] Steve Jones > > > Hello listers, > > Goodness, I WISH we all had found ALL our Joneses!!!
