Nancy, Traveling south from Tidewater Virginia around the Dismal Swamp area probably wasn't easy. My guess is your NC family connections in Perquimans/Chowan/Edgecombe/Chatham probably started there. I have a book of NC 1663-1729 abstracts land patents (about 40 different Jones). If you have a specific name, I can check the book for you or anyone else on the list as well.
