    1. Re: [Jones] Jones/Hawkins connection

    3. Dear Sandra; I know of no other Hawkins/Jones connections except the one in Culpeper Co. VA area. John and Nancy Jones Hawkins married Dec. 1787 in Culpeper Co. VA. The family (eventually there were 2 boys and 2 girls) moved to the Rowan Co. NC area. John probably died there, but his widow Nancy (Jones) returned to Culpeper Co., for she married Alexander Smoot there 17 Oct 1798. Then they went back to Rowan Co. NC. Nancy's son William Hawkins was a justice of the peace for Rowan Co. Her other son was John J. (Jones?) Hawkins and know very little about him tho' he may have been born in NC. Here's what I have on William Hawkins son of Nancy Jones Hawkins and John Hawkins: William Hawkins was a Justice of the Peace in Rowan Co., North Carolina. There's a marriage record in Rowan Co. for a William Hawkins and Mary Allen. This is dated Jan. 19, 1817. Jacob Allen provided bond and the witness was R. Powell. It is likely that Mary was related to the Isaac Allen who married William's sister Sarah (Sally). March 4, 1824, Rowan Co. N.C. Deed Book 29 page 315: Joseph Allen gave Wm.Hawkins 9 acres on Dutchman's Creek (adjoining Samuel Smith) for $100.00. The witnesses were Peter Eaton and James Smith, dated Feb. 1827. John J. Hawkins Jr. was born about 1789 and died before 1830 probably in Rowan Co. NC area. Hope this helps. Joyce
