This Jones family seemed to live and die quietly. Most of my information is from a cousin of my mother's who would be in her 90's if she were alive. I have been searching for several years and can find no proof of dates and places other than that which is found in Van Buren County, Iowa. Does this sound familiar to anyone? This is a lot of information, but I thought it might help someone find something they can document. Again I have little or no documentation for most of this information, just word of mouth and information from my mother's cousin. Jones First Generation 1. Was bonded to one George Chandler on 15 August 1827, who was to educate, clothes and care for said Stephen Jones until he was twenty-one years of age. Thomas Jones received the sum of Three Hundred Dollars for Stephen Jones services. Filed in Deed Book G folio-----213 page 256-257 Does this mean he didn't come to Iowa with the family???? 6. Eliza Jones b. 30 January 1819 in Kentucky, married 23 June 1842 David Hanes at Van Buren County, Iowa. He was born 18 February 1820 Tyler County, West Virginia. His parents were Daiid Hanes and Hannah Gorrell Hanes. Eliza Jones Hanes d. 22 April 1896 David Hanes d. 8 May 1900, both at ________, Kansas where both are buried. 7. William Jones b. 1822 Kentucky 8. James Jones b. February 1824 Kentucky, married Clarinda Ward on 3 July 1859, who was born in _________ in Penn. 2nd wife: sister-in-law Mary Jane Ward, (Widow Geo. Ward) b. in Ohio 1836, d. 5 May 1882. ______d. 20 November 1881 just five months earlier than his second wife. He is buried in Forbes Cemetery in Van Buren County, Iowa First wife; 34.
