    1. Britton/Albridgtion Jones
    2. An early JONES family which settled on "the parish of Mulberry Island, in the County of Warwick" appears to be the origin of several generations of fairly unusual first named JONES families. A Mathew Jones, born before 1620, settled this area. His wife appears to be an Elizabeth Albrighton, from whom the name Albrighton, Shortened to "Britton, Briton, etc." in some lines, takes its origin. The second generation of this group build a brick house on Mulberry Island, which has now become a National Landmark, known as the Mathew Jones House (see Historic Preservation, Chapter 9, Nov. 2000, p. 9.10) National Register of Historic Places, Building # 6900342, also known at "Bourbon" or "Brick House Farm". It is presently located in Fort Eustis, Newport News, Independent City. This family group utilized a number of maternal family names as first names including: Tignal (Tingnall), Ridley, Harwood, Albridgton, Scervant, Vinkler and Britton. All are fairly unusual first names for JONES. The family is discussed in Tyler's Quarterly, Vol IX, 1927 - 1928, p. 280; Genealogies of VA Families, Vol. II, p. 508, and a variety of other sources. Family branches involved VA, NC, TN, AL, SC, GA, and TX. These first named JONES'S have occasionally appear on the list I thought it would be helpful to try and show their relationship. Jerry, The Jones Genealogist.
