Interesting that you say you'd not seen the name Alson Jones, but more interesting that I too have an Alson born in 1843 in Stokes County NC, the son of Elisha Jones born 1802 in Davidson, NC. They both end up in Polk and Dallas Counties in Missouri by the 1870's. \^/ayne ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, June 26, 2005 7:18 PM Subject: Re: [Jones] Alson > Hello Marleen. Speaking of Matthew Jones and the families that vector off from his beginnings in Virginia, the Jones DNA Group is working to get some verifiable descendants on board. With your contacts, Jerry, I am sure you know some people out there who are these descendants. I would appreciate, as would every member who has had their DNA tested, having these people laying down the groundwork for many wonderful things to come. This could make research easier on each and every one who is reading this now. My most distant ancestor that I can verify is Humphrey Jones, born about 1805 in Martin County of North Carolina. I cannot verify or even come close to guessing who his parents are or even who his brothers and sisters were. Many of the records for Martin County were destroyed by fire many long years ago. Marriage records were lost. The 1830 Census records were destroyed. I am sure that everyone can relate to that when they must suddenly take a leap of faith from 1880 to 1900. How much easier would life be if we only had those records? Of course, it would have been much easier if some of our distant ancestors had learned to read and write so that they could leave to posterity all of the information we stay up to three or four o'clock in the morning trying to find. (And just imagine what that was like when we had to go to the library and wind that microfilm around the reel and tediously look through every page, one line at a time. But this is enough. If anyone has any information that could help me identify the parents of my distant Humphrey Jones, I would appreciate it with the greatest of joys. And if I have any information, or can locate the information, I would so gladly do that right away. Ron Jones Administrator Jones Surname FamilyTreeDNA Group and a 35 year genealogist. (I probably have a million names floating around inside my head. If someone could just get them out and into this computer for me.) -----Original Message----- From: Wayne Spence [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, June 26, 2005 9:47 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Jones] Alson Interesting that you say you'd not seen the name Alson Jones, but more interesting that I too have an Alson born in 1843 in Stokes County NC, the son of Elisha Jones born 1802 in Davidson, NC.
