    1. Jones Genealogist/Wylie Jones
    2. Wylie 'Willie' Jones & General Allen Jones where brothers. They were close personally and socially until a rift occurred between them 1780's - 1790's which split them and their families apart. I descend through Wylie. Patti There is always hope! There is a record dated 29 April 1768 in > which the then governor of NC (Tyron) grants 200 acres of land to Wylie > Jones, Solomon Alston and Joseph Montfort. This land was in Mechlenburg Co, on > both side of "2nd Broad River". This was a very difficult time for those in NC. > The western settlers were rebelling against the eastern "establishment" and > was about to lead to the Battle of Alamance where over 200 western settlers, > called Regulators, where killed. Two key political leaders on the "eastern" > side were an Allen Jones, and a Willie Jones. It would not surprise me that > Willie, Wyllie, Wylie where of the same group. I have abstracted the Colonial > Records of the state of NC, 1662 - 1776, for the JONES SURNAME, and this > research is available at the Joseph Wheeler Jones Memorial Library, Danville, KY. > This would give you a chronological abstract of the JONES surname in NC and > some of the historical content which often helps in sorting out the various > JONES groups. Hope this is helpful. Jerry.

    3. I would be interested in comparing notes with anyone researching Wylie Jones of North Carolina. I am a descendant of James Jones and Mary [Unknown] who were living in North Carolina between 1795 and 1803. This couple moved from North Carolina between 1803 and 1805. About 1813, the moved to Wayne County, Mississippi and James died before 1815. Mary appears on the territorial tax lists and censuses until 1820 when she appears in the federal census as head of household with one daughter and four sons in the household. The oldest son, James Jones appears in the records about 1816, and from subsequent census records in known to have been born in North Carolina about 1795. A Wylie Jones appears along with James, the son, in 1818, living on Buckatuna Creek. Wylie may be a son, or other male relative. The other sons of this family are possibly: Britton, Alfred, Ralph and Alson. Alson was born in Tennessee in 1805 and appears to be the youngest child. The only daughter, is Chloe Jones, born 15 May 1803, in North Carolina. If any of these given names ring a bell, please contact me. Thanks, Marleen Van Horne
