Hello Pam. Yes, there are numerous references to the JONES surname in Mississippi. There are at least 17 references to the JONES surname for MS in JONES JOURNEYS alone. Perhaps it would be helpful to review some references and sources for all those researching the JONES surname. First is a reference entitled: Genealogies In The Library of Congress, A Bibliography. Edited by Marion J. Kaminkow, Magna Carta Book Co., Baltimore, MD, 1972. This gives a listing of the JONES surname groups that have been submitted to the Library of Congress, the title and family recorded. There are reference to resources for the JONES surname from all over the US, Wales, Ireland, etc. Many states are represented. A similar reference is titled: American and English Genealogies In The Library of Congress, Genealogical Publishing Co., Much of the genealogical information written by those interested in JONES surname has been place in the Library of Congress. Second, is a series of texts called: The Compendium of American Genealogies, in seven volumes. It compiles many of the JONES surname, but has been given a "bad rap" due to lack of real documentation. However, if you family is recorded, it would give you at least a starting point. The third reference is the collection called JONES JOURNEYS, published from 1972 until 1992. It is a collection of different JONES family information from all around the US, but little on those outside the US. The fourth is a collection of JONES information abstracted by Caroline Cunningham, starting in 1965. It can be researched at the East Carolina University special collections, Greenville, NC. It is in four volumes and deals mostly with NC, VA and some TN references. A fifth reference is The Jones Genealogist, a newsletter now published for the JONES surname.
